DD 22 has never heard of Prince Edward

As the title says pretty much, showed her a picture of him and she said she has never heard of him in her life. I think it shows the generational difference as most people my age would know who he is I think.

Who the hell is Prince Alfie?

I assume they mean Archie even though he isn't a Prince.

MissAmbrosia · 30/01/2022 22:43

@ThinkAboutItTomorrow

Surely just a generation thing. My mum used to go on about Princess Margaret & her offspring but I was barely aware of her. I guess she was young and glamorous when my mum was young.

For our kids people like harry and Meghan will be unknown. It'll all be prince Alfie and princess Charlotte.

Princess Margaret was gorgeous in her youth and used to hang out with all the bright young things.
AdoptedBumpkin · 30/01/2022 22:43

I know who he is, but I'm not surprised someone of 22 doesn't know. He's not mentioned on the news much unlike his brothers.

Times have changed🙄

So what? I'm still allowed to find people's lack of knowledge of their surroundings bizarre.

MissAmbrosia · 30/01/2022 22:45

I feel positively ancient now Grin

LondonQueen · 30/01/2022 22:46

I don't know who her is either tbf.

DillDanding · 30/01/2022 22:49

He did my son’s DofE gold award ceremony (he was completely rubbish, btw).

My son had no clue who he was and guessed his age at 70! (I think he’s late 50s)

CounsellorTroi · 30/01/2022 22:50

Anne would get top marks, Edward nil point!

I’m a Republican but even I think that ours be unfair. He does loads of charity work but we don’t hear of it because the media aren’t interested in him. Wasn’t he meant to inherit the Duke of Edinburgh title after Philip died?

Longdistance · 30/01/2022 22:53

Dd12 knows who he is. She knows lots of the monarchs and history, so not surprising really.

Socialcarenope · 30/01/2022 22:56

A 22 yo I don't find so unbelievable but some people on this thread sound so unaware. I can't imagine taking in so little. For example I've never read or watched Harry potter but could pass a Harry potter quiz, I get LOTR memes and references despite having never read or watched it. Don't people just absorb such general knowledge?

Snoopsnoggysnog · 30/01/2022 22:59

Bit surprised but gobsmacked at people in their 30s not knowing this sort of thing.

Found out my 11 yo has never heard of Eastenders yesterday! Shock but why would he? We don’t regularly watch it. He doesn’t watch BBC1.

campion · 30/01/2022 23:00

@CounsellorTroi

Apparently Charles is now DofE and the decision about what to do with the title when he becomes king hasn't been sorted yet. Edward was originally in the running then it was changed.
Don't know why but all these spare dukedoms must be a real headacheGrin

Weird🙄

@MatildaJayne
Ahh my potatoes are yet to ascend...

liveforsummer · 30/01/2022 23:06

Tbh I'd forgotten about him too til you mentioned it, I googled to double check who he was. I'm 42

liveforsummer · 30/01/2022 23:09

Also I say that as someone who quite likes the queen, and I've watched the crown 😆

Buttermuffin · 30/01/2022 23:09

DD and I were just watching Goggle box and the had a snippet of Harry and Meghan's interview on it. She asked who his dad was and thought Harry was older than William..I am pretty certain she wouldn't know who Princess Anne or Prince Edward were. I think the Royal family are losing their relevance in the modern age.

riotlady · 30/01/2022 23:14

I’m 29 and only know who he is because I watched The Crown, I used to get Princess Margaret and Anne muddled too.

Prior to all the current stuff with Prince Andrew the older generation haven’t been in the news much since I’ve been old enough to pay attention. It’s all Harry and William (and occasionally Beatrice and Eugenie)

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 30/01/2022 23:15

I think it’s better that way tbh. They need to reduce the number of “royal family” members - just have the most immediate heirs involved and the rest can lead normal lives.

OneTC · 30/01/2022 23:25

While I couldn't name all the grandchildren with any certainty, it is surprising that so many people don't know the names of all four of the Queen's children.

I'd also forgotten about Anne

whiteworldgettingwhiter · 30/01/2022 23:34

@Buwch

I haven’t heard of him. I’m in my late 30s.

Mind you, I didn’t know Philip was the Queen’s husband until about a year before he died.

🙄🙄🙄 ffs
HailAdrian · 30/01/2022 23:39

I only recently looked up who's who in the royal family and I'm 33.

Tosement · 30/01/2022 23:41

Does no one on this thread read the newspapers or watch the news? I’m 33, a firm republican, and would’ve known who he was, and been able to identify him, since I was a child.

How on earth can you all not know who he is and what he looks like?

StoneofDestiny · 30/01/2022 23:47

What's to know. He is another independently wealthy millionaire who has never held a proper job on his life, yet we pay our taxes to help support him and his kids. His wife was caught on camera trying to sell access to the royal family (just like Sarah Ferguson). Just another member of this over privileged bone idle family. Edwards last TV appearance showed he was as entitled and temperamental as his brother Andrew and even tried to make money out of his nephew William while he was a St Andrew's.

MrsSkylerWhite · 30/01/2022 23:50

Presumably, you didn’t tell her about him 😬

I know who he is but would be hard pushed to identify him in a line up.
