As the title says pretty much, showed her a picture of him and she said she has never heard of him in her life. I think it shows the generational difference as most people my age would know who he is I think.

Who ?

OmgIThinkILikeYou · 30/01/2022 22:14

Never heard of him, hadn't heard of Andrew until recently. I watch the news but I just don't care about the RF at all. Most of what I hear anout them just goes in one ear and out the other.

johnnytightlips · 30/01/2022 22:15

@Buwch

I haven’t heard of him. I’m in my late 30s.

Mind you, I didn’t know Philip was the Queen’s husband until about a year before he died.

I didn't know who Prince Philip was either until I was about 30. I thought the Queen was a widow as there was no King and Philip was a companion.Blush In my defence, I an Irish and live in Ireland. However I do know who Edward is and may possibly pick him out in a lineup.

I know someone who, as a late teen, was involved in some Duke of Edinburgh event where Edward was to be guest of honour.

This young person knew who Edward was but had no idea what he looked like so, when the guests arrived he assumed the important looking one in the flashy uniform was Edward. During the course of the day this ordinary looking friendly chap in a suit came up to chat and they had quite a long conversation.

Of course at the end of the day when speeches were made it turned out that was Edward. He just came across as a really nice chap with no grand manner at all

MatildaJayne · 30/01/2022 22:19

That seems weird to me. But I’m in my 50s so a similar age to Prince Edward so I was around when he was in the news a bit more and doing the production company stuff and Royal It’s a Knockout etc. And I’ve always known who Princess Margaret was, but I get a bit hazier about how the Kents and Gloucesters are related to the Queen.

AuntyClem · 30/01/2022 22:22

Shows a lack of general knowledge but it’s not surprising. Prince Edward is rarely in the public eye these days and I think younger people generally have a lack of interest in the royal family.

Ginspiration · 30/01/2022 22:22

the potato?

MatildaJayne · 30/01/2022 22:26

@Ginspiration

the potato?
Your general knowledge is shite, that’s a King Edward! Grin
AuntyClem · 30/01/2022 22:27

@Ginspiration

the potato?
I thought it was a genital piercing, or is that a Prince Albert? I’d rather not Google it to check.
Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 30/01/2022 22:28

Coincidentally he was at an event a couple of weeks ago where I was introduced to him.
He came over very well (and surprisingly 'normal') Grin

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 30/01/2022 22:29

Surely just a generation thing. My mum used to go on about Princess Margaret & her offspring but I was barely aware of her. I guess she was young and glamorous when my mum was young.

For our kids people like harry and Meghan will be unknown. It'll all be prince Alfie and princess Charlotte.

moocow123456 · 30/01/2022 22:31

I'm 31 and have no idea who he is!

SecretaryOfNagriculture · 30/01/2022 22:32

I find it bizarre when people don't have basic general knowledge.

SecretaryOfNagriculture · 30/01/2022 22:33

Prince Albert is the piercing btw

Diana is dead. You know that, right?

FairyLightQueen · 30/01/2022 22:35

I'm mid-late twenties and just had to Google him but I recognised his face when I saw it...

blyn72 · 30/01/2022 22:35

I've seen a far bit of Edward on TV in recent times, and over the years.

I don't think it is unusual for young people nowadays to be less interested in the royal family. I'm not sure that I was all that fussed about them when I was young but I do remember when the queen had Edward.

I don't think the queen's 4th and most out of the public eye's son is general knowledge tbh
SquirrelG · 30/01/2022 22:37

My dd is 22 as well, and I'm frequently amazed by the sheer lack of general knowledge among her and her friends. I'm not suggesting that they should teach the royal family tree at school, but they don't seem to teach much at all in the way of general knowledge these days.

I have found this lack of general knowledge in a lot of young people too, through tea break conversations with young people I worked with (and who often had degrees!!). I agree not knowing about the royal family might be excusable, but I couldn't believe the things they didn't know or hadn't heard of. Others have also commnented on it.

Luredbyapomegranate · 30/01/2022 22:38

@TheMadGardener

The kids at my school don't know who Prince Charles is. They know the Queen, William and Kate, but not much more. They were most surprised when I told them that when the Queen dies Charles will be King ("who's he?) - they assumed William was up next as they know him.
I think if the RF wants to survive, they would best get Charles to step aside.

Who the hell is Prince Alfie?
Kitkat151 · 30/01/2022 22:39

My DD 27/wouldn’t know who he was either....he doesn’t really put himself on social media Which is why I’m guessing lots of youngsters wouldn’t know who he is.....my DD only knows of Prince Andrew cos of The Maxwell trial

Times have changed🙄
Fupoffyagrasshole · 30/01/2022 22:41

I’m 33 and never heard of him until I watched the crown 😂 I didn’t even know the queen had a daughter either until the crown 😆

Catflapkitkat · 30/01/2022 22:42

He was in the news a lot when he was younger, dropping out of the marines, joining Andrew Lloyd Webber's company, the Royal it's a knockout.

I think they really took a step back when his wife was caught by the News of the World in The Fake Sheikh interview. It was cringe. To be honest, I didn't know they had two kids. They have managed to keep them out of the public eye.

Funny that some claim to want a non royal, private life. Yet some can step back and live a relatively private life
