that front numberplate on most cars are white, and the one at the back is yellow.
Just bought a car and thought perhaps the dealer had made a mistake until I noticed that all cars had this!

No, it's totally a thing.

I always thought it was so in an accident emergency services knew which way the car was facing...
Not sure why they would need to know though!

DH says it's to show if a vehicle is coming towards you or going away from you. That's fine if you know they were different colours to start with, which I didn't until I read this thread!

And different lights on cars are all different colours! Red for brake, white for reverse.

I rang my dad up I think last year. I said Dad I think something about my car is fraudulent....great...what a twat.

I had never noticed it before!

We have a personalised number plate. I know, I know... DH got it as a present for his 21st and now it's a bloody embarrassing and expensive millstone that we have to pay to transfer whenever we get a new car otherwise his parents will get offended.

Anyway, last time we changed the car and went through the paperwork for transferring the stupid things, I asked DH if we get the choice of white or yellow plates because I thought the white looked nicer. He looked at me in amazement and told me to go outside and have a good look at all the cars, then to report my observations. Even then it took me a good while to click. He's never let me live it down since.

So no, you're not alone.

I've been driving for over 30 years and I have never noticed this.😲
I can't wait to go out in the morning to have a look at my car to check if it's true.

This can't be real. Have you even passed your test?

I only noticed this myself in December as Hubby bought me a private plate for my Xmas present, I consider myself quite an observant person but this passed me by as well.

. I'm Irish and it was the first thing I noticed when I got to the UK as a lad :-p. All the rear number plates are yellow! That's how you know you're in England.
