Childrens tv just isn’t the same nowadays. As a child I loved:
The raggy dolls
Barney- the dog not the dinosaur
Gran
Kissyfur
Jungle run
The tribe

What Programmes did you love?

OP posts:

And Jonny Briggs with the little dog called Razzle!!

OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 24/01/2022 19:50

King Rollo
Let's pretend
Children's Island

WeAreTheHeroes · 24/01/2022 19:59

@Hyenaormeercat - I was going to mention The Littlest Hobo as well but then wasn't convinced it was a kids' programme!

Littlest Hobo was great, I watched it as a teenager

WildRosie · 24/01/2022 20:36

I'm the right age to have watched Rentaghost (now 51) but I never did once. Everyone else at school seemed to be a viewer. I was a serious child so I suppose it was too silly for my taste. I did watch:

Blue Peter
Magpie (a pale imitation of Blue Peter)
Stig Of The Dump
Aubrey
Danger mouse
The Pink Panther Show - the ones with The Inspector were better than those with the Ant and Aardvark
Tom and Jerry - Fred Quimby productions only
Battle Of The Planets..planets..planets
Dr Snuggles
Crystal Tipps and Alistair
Bod
Fred Bassett - animation from the makers of Charlie Brown. It hasn't aged well.
The Trumpton Trilogy
Grange Hill
Newsround
Screen Test. I don't know why I watched it because I couldn't bear the oikish contestants and Stanley Kubrick wannabes. Great theme music though.
Mr Men
Ludwig
Fingerbobs. A slightly Bohemian air about it.
Take Hart and Heartbeat plus the Morph spin-off
Will'o the Wisp

...and many more Smile

WildRosie · 24/01/2022 21:02

Forgot to mention The Herbs. It wouldn't be allowed now because Pashana Behdi represents a racial stereotype. I liked it though.

Hated Paddington. On reflection it was distinctly middle class.

Mary, Mungo and Midge was quality. Captain Pugwash came from the same stable. All that shit about Seaman Staines and Master Bates is lies. John Ryan has been known to sue!

WildRosie · 24/01/2022 22:46

I appear to have destroyed this thread. I am sorry.

bendmeoverbackwards · 24/01/2022 23:04

@WildRosie yes to the Screen Test theme tune! I can still hear it now.

FairyLightQueen · 24/01/2022 23:11

St Bears Dolls Hospital!

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 24/01/2022 23:48

Itsy and Bitsy was one of my favourites as a child

Can remember the 'intermission' between programmes where there was nothing scheduled too

For some reason the song 'block a boots, block a boots, block block block a boots, they're in fashion today' has gone into my mind. Might have been from a schools and colleges programme?

Also might have been a schools thing, there was a black dot that would menacingly terrorise a local population...

Liked Seaview (?) with Yvette Fielding

Loved Murun Buchstansangur as a teenager

Tommyegansgirl · 25/01/2022 01:25

Super ted and banana man
Muppet babies
Duck tales
The worst witch

Ceramide · 25/01/2022 08:01

I just tried to watch an episode of Rainbow to indulge my nostalgia but I had to stop as Zippy is such an insufferable cunt

Grin My favourite episodes were the few occasions where someone would zip up Zippy's mouth

Idontlikeworms · 25/01/2022 10:32

Has anyone mentioned Count Duckula?

BasiliskFace · 25/01/2022 13:24

The Perishers. The dog used to say “By the Lord Harry!” and look into rock pools. That is all I can remember.
Also something which might have been a series or might have been a one off, which was a detective story set on a space ship with a studio audience of kids with proto-tablets who could vote on whodunnit. This was in the 80s I think.

Pinkginlover · 25/01/2022 15:58

The magic roundabout
Here come the doubledeckers
The herbs
Hectors house
The Banana splits

Hyenaormeercat · 25/01/2022 17:26

Is anyone else making a list to look on YouTube later?..☺

Bluesheep8 · 25/01/2022 19:23

I can remember this! It pops into my head regularly

x2boys · 25/01/2022 19:24

@R00tat00tt00t

What about Tim Tyler (The Boy Who Lost his Laugh?) - badly dubbed German drama on BBC mid-late 80's, often ran over school holidays? Can't really remember the plot but was weirdly drawn to the sinister feel of it.
Silas Marner? I can't remember what it was about but it was on every school summer holiday it seemed and was badly dubbed .

I just showed DD11 the intro to Battle of the Planets (which was my all time favourite cartoon as a kid - that, followed by Ulysses 31 and then Visionaries) and she said it looked like it had been filmed on a potato Shock

Kids today eh Confused

OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 26/01/2022 21:16

Has anyone mentioned The Trap Door?

"Don't you open that trap door

You're a fool if you dare

Stay away from that trap door

Cos there's something down there "

😆

HauntedPencil · 26/01/2022 21:19

Wiz bit popped into my head this morning.. accompanied by the really annoying theme song.

Joeyandjanicesdayoffun · 26/01/2022 21:21

Wackaday
Simon and the Witch
The Adventures of Tea Bag
Watt on Earth
Stoppit and Tidyup

Joeyandjanicesdayoffun · 26/01/2022 21:23

Oh, and Greenclaws. God, I wanted to get my hands on those magic seeds so much. They looked SO amazing! They don't now, on YouTube to my cynical, grown up eyes.

IntermittentParps · 27/01/2022 08:43

Stoppit and Tidyup
Oh, I loved that!

Keladrythesaviour · 27/01/2022 08:48

Wizadora and How2 - bloody loved those shows!
