Childrens tv just isn’t the same nowadays. As a child I loved:
The raggy dolls
Barney- the dog not the dinosaur
Gran
Kissyfur
Jungle run
The tribe

What Programmes did you love?

I just tried to watch an episode of Rainbow to indulge my nostalgia but I had to stop as Zippy is such an insufferable cunt

Vapeyvapevape · 22/01/2022 16:00

I loved a series called Seven Little Australians , I remember being distraught when one of them died.
Carries War with Mr Gotobed was fabulous.

inappropriateraspberry · 22/01/2022 16:02

Totties Dolls House was based on a book by Rumer Godden I think. I loved the program and the book!
Birdie was the cellulose doll who burnt. She came off a Christmas cracker. The things we remember!

What about Tim Tyler (The Boy Who Lost his Laugh?) - badly dubbed German drama on BBC mid-late 80's, often ran over school holidays? Can't really remember the plot but was weirdly drawn to the sinister feel of it.

Hyenaormeercat · 22/01/2022 16:44

There was one series about a football team, a girl desperately wants to join but isnt allowed until the cup final and she plays and scores. It would have been late 70s. Can't remember the name..
Another football one was Jossys Giants

I was football mad..still am

Hyenaormeercat · 22/01/2022 16:56

@Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies I remember Codename Icarus too, I had the book..also a bit of a lesson in schools presuming kids abilities, IIRC the boy was labelled 'thick' although I think the book had more about the teacher.

R00tat00tt00t · 22/01/2022 17:04

@Hyenaormeercat I think that might have been Gregory's Girl? Not a kids show specifically but very funny from what I remember.

Hyenaormeercat · 22/01/2022 17:07

It was an afternoon series during the week, I dont think it was that. I can't remember it being repeated either.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 22/01/2022 17:17

All of the ones from the 80s. Including Chocky which was quite scary. I'd watch after school before newsround.

Cotswoldmama · 22/01/2022 17:18

I loved round the twist, I introduced my boys to it and we watched them all on YouTube. The writer Paul Jenning wrote the stories the episodes were based on so we now own all his books too!

I don't think anyone has mentioned Pugwall?! Another Aussie Classic!

And of course heartbreak high ♥️

TheFogsGettingThicker · 22/01/2022 18:11

Big John, Little John

He drank some magic water, and then he changed randomly from being forty to a child... I'm sure hilarious japes and misunderstandings then ensued.

So strange!

Swingoutsistersledge2 · 22/01/2022 18:12

I remember a school programme in the 70's called A Boy from Space. I've mentioned it before on a similar thread . Absolutley terrifying also wheeled out on ' The big telly at school ! .

TheFogsGettingThicker · 22/01/2022 18:14

I loved The Clifton House Mystery, despite being scared silly and hiding behind the sofa when the hauntings were happening Grin

Mol1628 · 22/01/2022 18:15

@Cotswoldmama We have all the Paul Jennings books too my 9 year old loves them.
@KurtWilde I think that was Tottie's House? It was awfully dark for a kids programme
Yes this was the dolls house one I was thinking of, thank you

EssexLioness · 22/01/2022 22:03

Just watched a clip and it was pretty dark. Don’t remember it being that creepy! I can see the similarities between that and Bagpuss in style, but I used to absolutely adore Bagpuss. Not sure I watched Totty very much and I must’ve been very young as I only have vague memories of it

Oh yes!! Watched it a couple of years ago again

ninnynonny · 24/01/2022 16:52

Does anyone at all remember The Kids from 47a?

YogaLite · 24/01/2022 18:03

Anyone remembers Danny the Dragon who landed from space in a bubble that made him invisible? So nostalgic...

TurquoiseDragon · 24/01/2022 18:12
The banana splits
Couple of years ago, I had the theme tune as a ring tone. Now, normally I kept my phone on silent in the office, but one time I'd forgotten to silence it, went to the loo and came back to find everyone smirking at me. Blush
WeAreTheHeroes · 24/01/2022 18:15

Has anyone mentioned The Red Hand Gang yet? Think it was on during the summer holidays, but I could be wrong.

Hyenaormeercat · 24/01/2022 19:09

Loved Red hand gang! I did toy with buying dad on amazon!! I bought The Littlest Hobo! My guilty pleasure!

Hyenaormeercat · 24/01/2022 19:10
