Childrens tv just isn’t the same nowadays. As a child I loved:
The raggy dolls
Barney- the dog not the dinosaur
Gran
Kissyfur
Jungle run
The tribe

What Programmes did you love?

Grange Hill used to seem so naughty and grown up when i was in primary. But when I got to high school, it was like, wtf? It's not like this at all! Kids swear in real high school. And there are shit loads of them!

PaddleBoardingMomma · 21/01/2022 22:13

@LeftieLucy

Puddle lane.

There was a book series too but I don’t know which came first

I think the books were first. They were written by the same lady who wrote the 'Roger Red Hat / Billy Blue Hat' reading scheme books.

There's an episode of Puddle Lane on BritBox.

There was a programme in Chanbel 4 around the same era as Moondial which was televised short stories for children. Over the years I've racked my memory and trawled the internet but I cannot figure out what it was. Would have been about 11am, I'd race home from Sunday School to watch it.

I wasn't allowed to watch Grange Hill. My parents said it would Give Me Ideas.

Waitwhat23 · 21/01/2022 22:36

Greenclaws. Big green monster with a box of magical seeds that, when planted and placed into a tree with an owl guardian, would grow into various fantastical plants - jelly plant, football plant etc. Genuinely kicked off my lifelong love of gardening.

Waitwhat23 · 21/01/2022 22:38

Ooh, and at School - Through the Dragon's Eye and Badgergirl

EssexLioness · 21/01/2022 22:42

I remember so many of these. I loved Button Moon, Cities of Gold, Clangers and Dungeons and Dragons. Also loved Knight Rider
Anyone remember Manimal from the early 80s? It was dreadful but at the age of 5 I thought it was amazing!

EssexLioness · 21/01/2022 22:42

@2anddone

I loved a programme that was set in a doll house in (I think) an antiques shop. It was all about the people who lived in it but I don't remember the name Sad Also loved fun house, flumps, cockle shell bay, balamory and Tweenies....I am aware that spans many years but I am a childminder so still watching childrens tv now WinkGrin
I remember the dolls house one too but forget the name.
Toddlerteaplease · 21/01/2022 22:44

@DesertIslandPenguin I wasn't allowed to watch it either. Or Neighbours and home and away

Toddlerteaplease · 21/01/2022 22:47

@TheNoodlesIncident I loved we are the champions as well. It was just amazing in the 80's that they included children with special needs. I think it was the only program that did. I was always envious of the pool equipment they had. It looked fantastic.

Has anybody mentioned Press Gang? It seemed so grown up and dealt with some pretty risky themes (to my early teen mind).

@Thoosa

What was the one on BBC I’m which the presenter would drive on in a tiny primary coloured buggy wearing a boiler suit (and hard hat?) and then insert a boxy looking video cartridge thing into a big primary coloured machine with a screen and big push buttons? I can hear the tune in my head , but can’t place the title or the words. The music seems to have a “ch-ch-ch” element to it and I think it was always or sometimes presented by someone called Carol with a shaggy 80s hairdo.
Not rtft but it was chok-a-blok

Chocking out!

prettygirlincrimsonrose · 22/01/2022 01:04

@WhispersOfWickedness ooh I remember the school business one but can't remember the name - just wanted you to know it's not just you!

Been discussing similar with DH and just watched first episode of Around the World with Willy Fog, can't believe this was our morning kids TV.

Does anyone remember Kevin's Cousins? Not a favourite but really struggled to find it a few years ago based on vague memories.
