Childrens tv just isn’t the same nowadays. As a child I loved:
The raggy dolls
Barney- the dog not the dinosaur

What Programmes did you love?

@Pasdelacasa yes I was just thinking about the telly on wheels being rolled out much the excitement of the class ! Wordy was a bit creepy I always thought.

Codename Icarus. Set in a school for genius children, where dodgy mind games took place in a squash court… with a spy story on the side. And a moral about the value of learning.

The Bells of Astercote. One-off time slip drama which gave me screaming nightmares. It was based on a book by Penelope Lively.

I would like to put a name to a show from the late 70s/early 80s if anyone can help. It was a bizarre steampunk show from days before steam punk. It was a dubbed European show (fairly common at the time) with a dark industrialised city one side of a river, and a rural utopia on the other. There was a horrific weapon… and that’s about all I can remember.

Does anyone remember Ludwig ? A completely bizarre egg than randomly used to walk around and play a violin??

Yes! I think it was called Hey look that's Me and had Chris Harris in (he was a pantomime legend in Bristol)

@WhispersOfWickedness was it something like Batt Street School? Or there was a new girl called Michaela in the first episode, and Batt was her surname? Aargh this is going to bug me now!

I loved Ludwig, and have the full series on VHS! (Nothing to watch them on, but I won't get rid )

My daughter asked me the other day how I can do such a good Geordie accent (I’m a Londoner) and I said ‘watching Byker Grove!’

That sounds right. I remember there was an episode that really traumatised me because the little doll was made of cellulose and went up in smoke!

Who remembers 'How', where the presenters demonstrated simple science type tricks? Each episode started with them doing a Native American greeting thing! Quite odd.

@GattoFantastico Yep, I remember that and the deep voiced 'How' with the flat hand up in greeting. Never thought it was weird as a kid but..

Yes to Grandstand @Rubysocold all bloody afternoon! Me and mum often used to go out shopping on Saturday afternoon then get back in time for Worzel Gummidge and the Muppet Show.
