Just wondering what a sensible portion of dry pasta is for a healthy serving?

180 - 190g for me and DP, she doesn't like a big portion but I eat loads. We do sometimes have leftovers, if I'm not feeling particularly greedy.

Bloodybridget · 18/01/2022 22:44

Oh and I weigh it because I'm not good at estimating, and I don't want to cook far too much. Or too little!

I just guess.

75g

User3579 · 18/01/2022 22:47

@BlackRedGold

I weigh out 333g for our family of 4, (2 adults, one teen, one preteen). 2 500g packs make 3 meals that way, and I'm not left with lots of bags of different shapes with a tiny bit left in each.
Ha ha this is me!! I use 83g per person so I get 6 portions out of a 500g pack. Seems a good amount.
Angel2702 · 18/01/2022 22:49

70g for me but only because of calorie counting. It isn’t enough would prefer 100g really.

ItWasntMyFault · 18/01/2022 22:55

85g each

VanCleefArpels · 18/01/2022 22:57

In Old money it’s 2oz which is around 50g

MiracleBaby2022 · 18/01/2022 23:04

I don't eat pasta anymore (stopped several years ago) but when I did it was around 100g per person (adults) plus massive amounts of sauce/topping or whatever it was cooked with. I might be petite but I've got a big appetite 😁

MiracleBaby2022 · 18/01/2022 23:07

Actually, thinking back we often did 125g each. Could kill for a big bowl of pasta bolognese right now.

Dinosaurwoman · 18/01/2022 23:07

70 grams

GTAlogic · 18/01/2022 23:10

No idea but I use the fresh, filled pasta from the fridge section. I have the full pack which is meant to be 2 portions.

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 18/01/2022 23:19

I throw a whole pack in (500g) for 4 of us but my teenagers are at the “eat their own body weight in toast when they get in from school, inhale all available pasta for tea and then have a few weetabix for a snack an hour later” stage.

LucyfurMorningstar · 18/01/2022 23:21

166g. I split a 500g bag of Fusilli into 3. I then eat a portion with 2 tins of sardines inc the oil with butter and ground salt/pepper.

Allsorts1 · 18/01/2022 23:24

Consistently double what we need. However we usually have edamame bean pasta which is 40% protein and completely life changing!

HopingForMyRainbowBaby · 18/01/2022 23:25

No idea I just eyeball it into the sauce pan. If there's too much it gets used for a pasta salad. Spaghetti apparently is meant to be a 5p piece as a portion size. Again I just eyeball it

pradavilla · 18/01/2022 23:33

I just do half a 500g bag between us. So that's 125g each. Although he gets more than me, I'm probably more 100g and he gets 150g.

Can't believe most folk saying 75g that's not very much at all. I know my plate certainly isn't the biggest as I'm not a very big eater.

beingsunny · 18/01/2022 23:35

Half a cup

Thinking2041 · 18/01/2022 23:38

My DH keeps telling me the recommended serving amount is 75g. I always tell him that’s the ridiculous serving they use to make the calories look reasonable. Like, when they say ‘one stick of Kit Kat is 64 calories’ or whatever, when most people don’t eat one stick of a Kit Kat. 50-75grams would leave me hungry.

RedSoloCup · 18/01/2022 23:53

I do 75g each with bolognaise sauce etc or 100g each with just sauce

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 19/01/2022 06:37

@MindyStClaire

We do 60g for adults and half that for the (young) children.
30g pasta for children?? Why?? That's about 70 calories!!
Mmmmdanone · 19/01/2022 06:43

70g per serving and a bit more for good luck!

EssexLioness · 19/01/2022 06:44

60g for me, 120g for DH

Shellingbynight · 19/01/2022 07:02

60g usually, but it depends on what's in the sauce with it. I started weighing my food years ago to lose weight (Needed to lose 3 stone). At that time I was having over 100g and 60 looked tiny. I can judge 60g by eye now.

RampantIvy · 19/01/2022 07:06

At 63 my appetite and ability to burn calories isn't what it used to be. As a result I'm amazed at, what is to me, the gargantuan appetites of so many posters.

DH and I will share a 250g pack of fresh pasta between us, usually tossed in pesto and some salad, and both feel really full afterwards.
