Just wondering what a sensible portion of dry pasta is for a healthy serving?

75-90g depending on who is eating it and what it is going with. We don't tend to eat dried pasta, we have fresh as it keeps you filled up for longer.

Suzi9989 · 18/01/2022 21:08

We love pasta. 500g bag is gone in one meal. Family of 4- never believed in low carb. We are an active family, I am size 8-10 enjoy carbs. DH office job and children are standard BMI. Think it's a simple way of working our calories In Vs Out. You will not put on weight if you eat less than you burn. Just not scientifically possible. Would you like to consume more or less?

ColouringPencils · 18/01/2022 21:13

It depends a lot on the sauce/ whatever else is part of the meal, doesn't it?

Not here. We always have the sand portion of pasta. I guess it’s just habit. If we’re particularly hungry I add garlic bread!
DramaAlpaca · 18/01/2022 21:15

No idea about weight. I just guess as I chuck it in the pan.

Shmithecat2 · 18/01/2022 21:16

@Inextremis

Flip knows - do you lot really weigh your pasta? I just shove a handful into the pot!
This. I've never weighed pasta!
JunkIsland · 18/01/2022 21:28

100g is what I think of as standard, although I’m aware the recommended portion is smaller. I don’t think the calories in 100g is excessive in the context of my overall diet. 70-80g for a light meal or when I’m trying to lose weight. 110g - 120g when we’re having a pig-out with a really nice sauce as a treat. Again, not too worried about that as I’d eat much more in a takeaway. I do always weigh it as I reckon we’d be eating closer to 150g if not weighed!

Phos · 18/01/2022 21:30

75g usually but if its orzo 50g because it always feels like you get more with that.

mrsmacmc · 18/01/2022 21:31

50g pp (doing SW at the moment). Used to be a big mug pp I used and that was 90g each. Doesn't feel miserly and I load up on veg

IGotHam · 18/01/2022 21:38

I eat 125 grams in a meal. One 500g pack does 4 adults IMO

MintyGreenDream · 18/01/2022 21:39

Full pack for me dh and ds

MintyGreenDream · 18/01/2022 21:39

Full pack of spaghetti not pasta in general!

Fluffypinkt · 18/01/2022 21:47

@PieonaBarm

As much as I can fit in my face without being sick
I came here to announce the exact same thing!
InTropicalTrumpsLand · 18/01/2022 21:56

For those of you who measure by handfuls or mugs, do you only buy spaggheti? I have so much fun buying all sorts of shapes.

mrsm43s · 18/01/2022 21:57

We're a family of 4 (adults and older teens), and for a full pasta meal (i.e something like pasta bake/pasta and sauce - but not something with a big meat/other component such as bolognaise/lasange/cannelloni etc) I'd use half a 500g pack, so approx 62.5g per person (in reality probably more like under 50g for me and DD and 75g plus for DH and DS). Obviously we'd use far less if it was a side portion or just a component of a bigger meal.

I'm fat (actually really plus size, not competitive undereating). Life is so unfair :(

JingsMahBucket · 18/01/2022 22:03

@GirlOfTudor

If you're weighing pasta, you have FAR too much time on your hands.
What’s wrong with being nutritionally literate?

This post and others similar to it sound like when you were back in school and some kids made fun of the other kids who liked to learn or read.

StinkyBumFartyBaby · 18/01/2022 22:09

I do à 500g pack for me and two kids, the usually portion up the leftovers in take-away tubs for after school snacks for the next couple of days. Cba measuring.

SoManyTshirts · 18/01/2022 22:14

100g if it’s an all-pasta dish, 75g if there is something else substantial with it (salad, veg, sausage, chicken breast)

Not really - just have to be mindful of how much I eat.
Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 18/01/2022 22:27

I never measure and then end up cooking enough to feed an army. Every damn time 😂

This is what I do too so you get 2 meals out of a 500g pack. We are 2 adults, teen DD and just newly teen DS. I always thought we ate big portions - sometimes there will be a leftover portion too. The only time I do more is for mac and cheese as there's no meat or veg in it - 300g for that.
KurtWilde · 18/01/2022 22:37

Never weighed it, just chuck some in the pan and if there's too much I use it for pasta salad the next day.

ShockWavezz · 18/01/2022 22:38

50g wouldn't touch the sides

NeverDropYourMooncup · 18/01/2022 22:40

No idea. It's a handful, whatever that weighs in GF pasta.
