How many grams of pasta do you have per serving?

Just wondering what a sensible portion of dry pasta is for a healthy serving?

The recommended amount is 75g but I find that pretty measly to be honest.

StampOnIt · 18/01/2022 19:35

@sleighbellsjiggling

I didn't realise people did this!! I tend to tip a load in the saucepan and hope it's about right it never is
I don't weigh it, we're a family of five, a pack is 500g, so I just use the whole pack.
GirlOfTudor · 18/01/2022 19:36

If you're weighing pasta, you have FAR too much time on your hands.

Intriguing to see the variances!
I only weigh mine because we mainly use 500g packs of spaghetti and I use half at a time. That feeds me and DP, sometimes with a lunch size portion left over if DP isn't as hungry as usual.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 18/01/2022 19:36

Recently I started weighing it. 75g. It’s a lot less than we used to have. We’ve all lost weight since.

MindyStClaire · 18/01/2022 19:37

We do 60g for adults and half that for the (young) children.

userxx · 18/01/2022 19:38

@Decorbreadthegingerate

I count out eight tubes of penne

Greedy cow.

BlackRedGold · 18/01/2022 19:38

I weigh out 333g for our family of 4, (2 adults, one teen, one preteen). 2 500g packs make 3 meals that way, and I'm not left with lots of bags of different shapes with a tiny bit left in each.

Camomila · 18/01/2022 19:39

2 of my (small) handfuls per adult, one per child.

It would take me longer to try to judge 150g by eye than to put the saucepan on the scales, zero, tip in pasta. There's only two of us and I often buy 1kg bags.

8? 8 full tubes of penne? I have four strands of spaghetti for 2 of us and that gives leftovers for tomorrows lunch!
Lyricallie · 18/01/2022 19:41

75g for dinner 60g for lunch. If I'm having a very hungry day shake it into the pan until it looks enough.

weegiemum · 18/01/2022 19:41

I have a large mug (with the Moomins on it, if that's relevant) which has always been the right size for each portion. Out of curiosity ds (19) weighed it last week 80g. He felt vindicated in his measuring 75g and I felt vindicated by my mug.

Svara · 18/01/2022 19:42

If teen DS is making pesto pasta for lunch he will do 100g. 75g is with bolognaise.

Fabuleuse · 18/01/2022 19:42

Wow, I make 500g for me, DH and a 7 year old who eats an adult size portion. There is usually a very small portion left over but that's all.

I've started doing exactly the same. When DH cooks, he uses the whole 500g packet.

Fabuleuse · 18/01/2022 19:43

PS before anyone accuses me of over feeding the child, he's actually slim and probably could do with gaining a few pounds. Pasta is the one meal where he eats a big portion.

Soffit · 18/01/2022 19:45

I would never measure but I try to make sure I get the smallest portion. I don't really like it as much as fresh homemade pasta. However, if I were at Prezzo then I would eat the whole portion (which is generous). I cannot tell whether it is fresh or dried but it is well made

itsutterlyshit · 18/01/2022 19:45

Depends how hungry we are and if it's dinner or lunch. Most of the time for dinner it's 75g for me and 100g for DH.
If he's particularly starving or had a heavy workout day he always wants 120g

Lunch I usually stick to 50g and as loads of veg to bulk it up

I think it depends what you put with it. I used 330g for a pasta bake (it was what was left!) and that made 5 good size portions that filled a Pyrex dish But I had loads of veg in there too and pancetta plus cheese on top
ShockWavezz · 18/01/2022 19:57

75g seems to be the general consensus

OP posts:
ParkingDiagram · 18/01/2022 19:57

No more than 27.5g. Any more and I’d be so stuffed I couldn’t eat for a week!

ShockWavezz · 18/01/2022 20:00

75g dried equates to 180 grams cooked apparently, 280 calories, that's what it says on the back of my Penne!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 18/01/2022 20:04

what ever it says on the packet tbh, and give myself the smaller portion - but eat more cake Grin
