How old would you guess this child was?

Some of her behaviours include...

Stripping off as soon as she gets home

Being more interested in boxes of polystyrene than her toys

Having a tantrum every time she is told she cannot have something

Repeatedly asking for something she know she cannot have, and not giving up even when told no 4 times until shouted at and then goes and cries.

Hits out at people rather than using her words

Takes 30 minutes to eat a small bowl of cereal (won't have milk and eats cheerios one at a time)

Calls parents "mama and dada"

Likes to be held like a baby

Breaks most toys she owns

Thinking about the behaviour perhaps of your own child, I am wondering what age these behaviours are typical of - I know it is difficult as children develop at different rates but I am concerned about my child.

Depends really, my god daughter is autistic and behaves like that and she is 9. But if it's a NT child then I'd guess around 2 or 3, possibly a young 4.

Although some of those behaviours like being cuddled like a baby and the mama and dada thing could be a NT child up to 9 or 10, but combined with the other behaviours if your child is school age then I can see why you are concerned.

Ummm around 3? But children's development is such a tricky thing to gauge.

I0NA · 17/01/2022 19:19

It all depends if she is NT and if not, what her issues are.

Eg lots of adults change their clothes when they get home as their home clothes / PJ/ leisure wear is more comfortable.

Small girls often do this more than boys as “ girls clothes” are less comfortable than “ boys clothes “.

My 16 has sensory issues and he wears PJ or fluffy dressing gown most of the time in the house.

So there’s no way I can tell what age a child is from your list.

sweetbellyhigh · 17/01/2022 19:19

The average teenager.

Goldbar · 17/01/2022 19:20

In my personal experience, 4. My DC was a sunny, good-natured 3yo who has turned into a stroppy, strong-willed 4yo. We spent 15 minutes outside the toy shop at the weekend with DC tantruming, screaming at top volume and throwing themselves on the ground because I said we weren't going in and no new toys just after Christmas.

DC doesn't break toys but will crumble polystyrene, rip paper into small pieces and take ages to eat meals.

Ohdoleavemealone · 17/01/2022 19:20

She has no diagnosis. She suffered some trauma at birth and we have always been told to expect a slight delay but I am worried its a bit more than that.

I strip off as soon as I get home?!

impossible · 17/01/2022 19:22

Three.

Greenrubber · 17/01/2022 19:22

2 or 3

Ohdoleavemealone · 17/01/2022 19:23

@LexiTall do you then spend the remainder of your day wandering around butt naked?

OP posts:
RichTeaCheddars · 17/01/2022 19:23

I'd say 4/5 possibly up to 6

GrazingSheep · 17/01/2022 19:24

Are you going to say how old she is before there are another 10 pages of replies?

Sexnotgender · 17/01/2022 19:24

Anywhere from 2-8.

The2Omicronnies · 17/01/2022 19:25

2 to 3

GrandRapids · 17/01/2022 19:25

2/3

Well it's unusual but some people do just like to be naked!

undercoverhero74 · 17/01/2022 19:25

You just described my 2.5 year old. It's exhausting!!!

skgnome · 17/01/2022 19:26

I would say 4-6
Or a stroppy teen… ok they are more interested on the contents of the boxes.. but the rest…
For a young child I would say even a young 7

TabithaTittlemouse · 17/01/2022 19:26

One of mine has ASD and displayed very similar behaviour until his teens.

Are you thinking she may have similar?

Pleaseuniverseplease · 17/01/2022 19:27

Could be any age. It's not really fair to judge against societal expectations of the norm.
It sounds like you need an assessment.
Age doesn't really come into it.

paname · 17/01/2022 19:27

If not a toddler then she doesn't sound NT. the content of the box being interesting and the breaking of toys combined with wanting her clothes off (sensory) would make me seek a assessment.
