Am I the only one who doesn't like dogs?!

Now don't get me wrong, some dogs can be cute to look at but I really don't like being near dogs. I've got nothing against dogs but I just don't like having them near me or touching me. It seems like if you say this to a dog owner though they look at me like I'm the devil!

When I was a toddler about 30 years ago my grans dog tried to attack me (first grandchild - dog was jealous of attention I was getting from gran) so the dog had to be put down, I don't really have memory of this but wonder if it's rooted somewhere in my brain!

I just hate it if I'm out anywhere and someone's dog jumps up on me and owners say "don't worry he/she is really friendly" and I say please can you pull them away because I don't like dogs and some owners get really annoyed as if they can't understand why some people may be uncomfortable.

Any similar experiences?

@Okbye yes I've noticed that too! I've heard people at moan that there's not enough pubs to take their dogs to! Dogs are not meant to go to the pub, that's why! I would definitely not be going into a pub or restaurant with dogs around

I don’t like dogs either. I used to be really scared of them all but now it’s just big ones running off lead that scare me.
I don’t get the appeal. I have never seen a cute dog. I love cats and think they are the cutest things ever but I just can’t see that in a dog!
I don’t trust them, and don’t know why anyone would tbh.
Nope, not a fan.

I don't like dogs.

People are free to have dogs and I do understand that everyone has different interests.

But I don't inflict my love of genealogy or knitting on randomers in the park under the guise of "being friendly". So keep your fucking animal away from me - I have NO interest in it, however much you love it.

wetotter · 17/01/2022 18:39

@YogaLite

I am not a fan of dogs, a dog once jumped up my toddler ds barking with bared teeth, thankfully it was on lead and owner immediately pulled him away but the fear stayed with both of us.

@Huntswomanonthemove, since u mentioned guide dogs, maybe u can tell me something I have always wanted to know but didn't have anyone to ask:

Guide dogs - all fine and dandy but who takes them out for toilet/clears the litter tray for someone who is disabled?

Guide dogs are actually taught to go on command, so they can poo in a place where their human can deal with it (depends on the degree of sight loss) or where there is another person who can deal with it

But yes, it is possible that their human simply will not see what needs to be done.

Iand then think - how many guide dogs do you see? Do you really think they're an important part of the dog poo problem?

On the other hand, we should be very grateful to dogs, for so many reasons:

Guide/assistance dogs - dogs can warn their owners of sudden severe illness, for example people who have fits
Police dogs
Army dogs
Dogs that sniff out bombs at venues we attend and on aeroplanes
Dogs that find drugs
Dogs that visit care homes
Therapy dogs
Search and rescue dogs

I'm sure there are more.

PineappleIceCream · 17/01/2022 18:44

I don’t really like dogs, they can be cute but in general I don’t like them and would prefer There was less of them around. I care about any animals but I just find dogs quite scary and also (and this is more on the owner) but their behaviour is out of hand a lot of the time. I must admit it definitely spoils my enjoyment on walks as it puts me on edge sometimes when a big dogs seems out of control.

That’s fine as long as they don’t come near me.

These dogs are trained to go to the toilet in a designated place. Dogs can also be trained to go, on command.

I would definitely prefer it if there was less of them, such nuisances dog shit everywhere and barking from noisy dogs in neighbours gardens, at my mums house every time she goes in her garden her next door neighbours dog barks it’s head off, I’m so glad none of my immediate neighbours have a dog

Huntswomanonthemove · 17/01/2022 18:47

You'll be fine, dogs are very discerning.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 17/01/2022 18:47

@EishetChayil

They're desperate, slobbery creatures. At least cats have dignity.
My cats walk all over you and put their arses in your face, headbutt you and try and catch your feet when you walk... My dog does none of those things!
verytiredofbeingshoutedat · 17/01/2022 18:48

Hello my people

-whispers- I don't like dogs either ....

Don't get it
They are so demanding
Like unruly smelly scratchy toddlers .
And their claws hurt when they jump up

I have many friends with dogs so I can't say this out loud irl . My friends would never know I don't like dogs as I pretend so well that I do

Give me a cat any day. Perfection in a beautifully designed fur ball. Grin

It's always the people who own the dogs, that are to blame. Dogs are incredibly easy to train. There is no need for a dog to bark and bother others.

Dogs are great, people not so great. Grin

Huntswomanonthemove · 17/01/2022 18:49

We have a real problem around here with cat shit in our gardens, but that's okay apparently.

RedCandyApple · 17/01/2022 18:50

Why do people always bring cats into it? They are not the same animals. Cats bother me and I never see cat shit in my garden ever, they are always not noisy

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 17/01/2022 18:50

@sadpapercourtesan

"You go to people’s homes and expect them to keep their dog away from you shock…. You’d not be invited to mine "

Somehow I doubt that would cause her much distress. People with dogs tend to be a bit blind to the fact that their home stinks of dog and is covered in hair.

I'm not blind to it. I live with a dog. I have kids too, so there is toys in my house and the occasional sticky door handle. Comes with the package doesn't it.

It's very rare we go to a pub without the dog.

Perhaps don’t walk in the jungle. Most places are quite normal without wild animals approaching. 😂 . What a joke !
YogaLite · 17/01/2022 18:51

@wetotter, @Huntswomanonthemove
Good to know, thank you

stuntbubbles · 17/01/2022 18:51

And already the “what about cats” whataboutery! That was quick, who had 90 minutes? Collect your prize!

Mrsmophead · 17/01/2022 18:52

my sister is terrified of them and I used be so I appreciate other people's anxiety.
I have been won over by my dog but it was a random chance we even met him. He was trained for a particular service before we got him so he is great and not jumpy and very open to being petted .
On the flip side I have been flattened tonight while running by an over zealous dog the owner couldn't control and am all scratched down my flank. I can see why folk may be wary of dogs.

RedCandyApple · 17/01/2022 18:52

That should be don’t bother me* It’s not like you go to the park and cats jump up and you and meow, they keep to themselves and at least make an attempt to bury their shit dog shit all over the street is just vile

You could add sheep dogs to this list. I have no problem with trained dogs that have a purpose, I think they are fantastic beasts.

It is the untrained, over indulged, pampered pets which I struggle with, especially when their owners seem to think you should be delighted when they leap all over you, lick your clothes, and beg for or steal your food.
