engagement ring - which one to get? (Photos included)

I need to decide which engagement ring to get: blue sapphire, diamond with stones on the ring or just plain diamond ring.

I'm looking to wear it everyday (office work). I like blue sapphire but afraid in 10+ years time I might not like it anymore. plain diamond ring would be much safer option and with just a single ring would be able to afford better quality.

cannot decide! what are your thoughts?

The blue one definitely.

People choose their own engagement rings?! When did this become a thing???!!!! Surely being proposed to is a surprise and this includes the ring your partner selects? What is going on here? Shock.

If I'm wearing it every day from now until I die I want a say in what it looks like!

I'd go with 2 or 3 OP but agree with a PP about size of the stone in comparison to the size of your hands/fingers.

Number 2 or 3. Like sapphires but think the one in the pic almost looks fake, not sure why!

Sapphires are beautiful but that ring is not - it looks like something from Clares’s accessories. If you can afford the diamond in the second pic, you can afford a much better sapphire ring.

The micro pave bands will date horribly and are forever losing their stones. Just get a plain band. And before you’re tempted NO HALOS. Halos are shit.

1 a million times over

NewBrownMouse · 16/01/2022 21:52

All lovely but my bit of advice is to try them on to check comfort before deciding, I loved the look of the stones down the sides until I tried one on and found them really irritating rubbing against my other fingers either side. I could just have sensitive skin but worth checking.

Sprucewillis · 16/01/2022 21:55

No 2 is lovely

Emelene · 16/01/2022 21:58

Find one you love. Sounds like you love number one? Mine is very like number 3 but it’s exactly what I wanted. Smile

But minus the halo (only as worried those little stones may fall out- heard it happens a lot!)

You need to go and try them on though. We agreed a budget beforehand and the ring that felt right for me was quite a bit cheaper.

DH was happy!

I like number 3 best - the stones look too big in comparison to the width of the ring in the first two. I do like stones other than diamonds in general, though, but just out of your styles I prefer number 3.

BungleandGeorge · 16/01/2022 22:09

I think the sapphire would look better on a plain slightly thicker band. That or number 3

SockFluffInTheBath · 16/01/2022 22:10

It should be something very special that you love. If you’re asking a bunch of strangers because you can’t decide then I think the right one is number 4…

BungleandGeorge · 16/01/2022 22:11

If you’re wearing it everyday for work I’d go with a 6 prong setting as well or you might lose the stone

OldTinHat · 16/01/2022 22:19

No.1. The blue one.

I was looking for someone else to comment this! I had no idea it was a thing. At what point do you choose the ring? A general casual conversation about rings while you're passing beaverbrooks with some subtle pointing while you're dating? Or do they propose with a prop ring (haribo?) and you buy it together afterwards?? Surely when your partner proposes it comes out of the blue and you're not expecting it? Or am I just old and out of the loop Confused
Ploppy1322 · 16/01/2022 22:49

Number 2 is just like my ring and I love it x

My ring is almost identical to number 2 and I love it. I think it's a nice classic design that shouldn't date.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 16/01/2022 23:42

Don't go with sapphire, they aren't as hard as diamonds for every day wear. It'll eventually get scratched.
