Just in case we need it.

😄

They certainly seem to have been having a busy time.

Do we bring a bottle along to the thread?

@OhYouBadBadKitten

Do we bring a bottle along to the thread?
You can do with this thread exactly what you like. As JRM may well have already said into his top hat.

There are no rules, just use your common sense and if in doubt ask nanny.

Do we bring a bottle along to the thread?

That's not really in the spirit, is it? That makes it work.

AdamRyan · 13/01/2022 13:58

Hello.
I'm literally Shock at JRM.
They set the fucking rules. Parliament agreed them. No doubt this is sewing the seed for some bollocks about how labour and scientists forced a disproportionately harsh restriction on people and plucky Boris was the hero of the people by hosting a party in his garden

I hate what our democracy has become

I would join this thread but I’m working. And pottering round my flower beds chatting with a glass of Chablis will require my full concentration. Business critical Chablis it is.

Notonthestairs · 13/01/2022 14:24

They are rewriting the rules to suit their agenda. It is Patterson all over again.

Unfortunately they forget Patel remarking on how she'd report neighbours for having a party. (Where is Patel's office out of interest?)

I'm also intrigued to know whether Dominic Raab was guest of honour (at the thank you party).

“I hate what our democracy has become”

I do too. Because punishing politicians for lies is now dependent on the ability of critics to whip up a mob on social media - not on the core issues.

Johnson should go because he lied to the country about Brexit. In doing so he has damaged the UK, the EU and the stability of the wider world. He did this cynically as a ploy to further his own career.

The rules around the gathering in the Downing Street Garden should have been checked by the civil servants who organised it.

JustJam4Tea · 13/01/2022 15:21

"The rules around the gathering in the Downing Street Garden should have been checked by the civil servants who organised it."

They knew .... they just didn't think it applied to them.

Notonthestairs · 13/01/2022 15:38

The rules were pretty simple in May 2020.

You may meet one person outside. You must maintain 2 meter social distancing.

We were not allowed in friends or families homes or gardens.

Pretty sure even the politicians that voted on the legislation would have been able to follow that.

Sheabutterisdelish · 13/01/2022 15:45

Yes it wasn't hard to follow

It would have been really hard for them to have popped downstairs to the briefing room and watched the briefing to find out what the rules were.

This is a core issue.

There are only two options.

Either, at a time of National crisis, the PM and his staff didn’t understand their own guidelines and simply weren’t paying attention; or they told people to go through traumatic suffering, which in many cases led to death, by mistake.

Until Boris' says that he had the party for a dare to see if he could get away with it I reckon that is the reason.

I know I sound a bit sappy but I was so upset this afternoon about all the damage being done to the country and our democracy due to them being so awful.

I used to work in politics and am used to disagreeing (at times very robustly) but I am not used to thinking the government are absolutely disgusting human beings.

Peregrina · 13/01/2022 17:55

That's it - however misguided other PMs seemed, you felt that most took the job seriously. Johnson and his hangers on are just taking the piss.

He didn't understand his own oven ready deal and still went through with it so I think it is a combination of both

Saw this on twitter, read and despair

Fun fact: today would've been Owen Paterson's 1st day back in Parliament after 30 sitting day suspension from 4/11/21. In those 30 days:

  • Geoffrey Cox
  • No10 wine/cheese
  • Stratton out
  • No10 quiz
  • CCHQ bash
  • N. Shropshire
  • Case -> Gray
  • Geidt flat refurb 2.0
  • No10 BYOB

I think that is probably what JRM and other ministers mean when they say that Boris is doing a fantastic job. No one else has the stamina to do so much in such a short period of time.
