Boris’ rubbish excuse - how?!

How many companies/ businesses were having office parties in May 2020?!!! Seriously, that’s his excuse?! How can he genuinely keep coming out with this shit?! How can they not hold him to account? The Tory party MUST do something - any shred of credibility they have left is at risk.🤬

They don't give a shit.

lilikiki · 12/01/2022 12:48

I know a few that had drinks at work during 2020, yes
I don’t think any of them were deemed “parties” though

NoNeedToArgue · 12/01/2022 12:51

@lilikiki I think you might have missed the point Confused

It’s ridiculous. Either he’s lying (I’d go with this one). Or, he genuinely thought it was an allowed work event, in which case he is too stupid to hold such a position. The rules at that point were so clear (and even if they weren’t, I’d still expect the bloody PM to understand them), so if he didn’t realise this was against the rules, then I worry for his mental competence.

It is judging by PMQs more important among Tory MPs to ask the Prime Minister about washing machines.
KaptainKaveman · 12/01/2022 12:53

Of course he's lying. It's his modus operandi.
The man is despicable and cowardly. Unfit for any public serving role.

PhilCornwall1 · 12/01/2022 12:54

Because as far as he is concerned, we are all thick fuckers and he thinks we believe him.

Hemingwayzcatz · 12/01/2022 12:54

His PR team had to scramble for some sort of excuse and this was the only one they could come up with. Of course it was a party, invitations including ‘socially distanced drinks, bring your own booze’ are not usually sent out for work meetings.

elliejjtiny · 12/01/2022 12:56

Not many. Meanwhile in hospitals only one parent was allowed to visit their child.

SirChenjins · 12/01/2022 12:57

The man doesn't give a shit what anyone thinks of him - he genuinely doesn't care about you, me, the thousands who have died and their loved ones, the people who are struggling every single day. He has some form of personality disorder and he just doesn't care - and that's how he manages to sleep at night and go about his daily life.

AssignedBlobbyAtBirth · 12/01/2022 12:59

They don't care. Labour are so unelectable they know there isn't a real opposition
I do feel that many of his party are sick of him but he isn't an honorable man so will never resign. He'll have to be ousted and will be eventually but there doesn't seem to be an appetite just now for a leadership contest

Lets work on the basis that it was a work meeting.

If I took a bottle of booze to a work meeting and started drinking I wouldn't last very long in my job.
Does that not apply to the Prime Minister and those who work for him? Is it really appropriate for them to be under the influence of alcohol at work during the time of a national crisis?

MayThePawsBeWithYou · 12/01/2022 13:00

Everyone who attended must be stupid to think this was ok and sending out invitations was ridiculous. Presumably DC was also at these events.

PhilCornwall1 · 12/01/2022 13:01

But does anyone think he ever did?

I thought Cummings is saying that he raised concerns about the email and party at the time?
lilikiki · 12/01/2022 13:02

No I don’t think I did miss the point
I’m saying that I know a few people who did essentially the same as Boris. The meet ups and garden outings with drinks etc were done in quite a few workplaces
So I can see how he’ll skate by on it, because many people attended similar type things

But he's the PM! He's not some average Joe
girlmom21 · 12/01/2022 13:04

He doesn't need us to believe him - he just needs to say enough so that there's reasonable doubt about the parties. If they can't prove there were parties, because they rules could possibly maybe have been misconstrued even though we all know it's bollocks then nobody will need to resign or get sacked.

They're just playing dumb and hoping it works in their favour.

Labour is unelectable, so instead we have to have someone as Prime Minister who does not know he is at a party when the party is in his back garden.

Show me one hospital or school that had a similar event in May 2020.
user1471517095 · 12/01/2022 13:08

I'd like to know who refused to go, just to see if anyone supposedly representing me and my constituency has any moral fibre left.

lilikiki · 12/01/2022 13:09

I agree with you
If he was having drinks with numerous ppl in gardens then why couldn’t we? Shows they didn’t actually believe the rules they had in place
It makes me furious. Tho I think he’ll skate by because many people did the same

I would actually like to know who was the one pushing these rules and lockdowns etc if our own PM and cabinet clearly didn’t actually believe in them too? So why did we have them? Whose idea was it?

lilikiki · 12/01/2022 13:11

Clearly I can’t do that because they weren’t supposed to have drinks at work so it would hardly be advertised.

But as I have stated above I don’t necessarily agree nor condone it with it (especially by the rule maker themself!) just saying it was happening.

AnnPerkins · 12/01/2022 13:11

'Someone' organised a gathering of staff in his garden, he went out for 25 minutes to thank them for their hard work, now realises he should have sent them indoors. 'We' made misjudgements on that evening.

He conceded the absolute minimum he could get away with. Nothing else is undeniable...yet.

I'm just hoping there's pictures or video about to drop.

You think? Why wasn't Sunak there then? Keeping out of sight to try to avoid the taint. I wouldn't be so sure the Tories won't ditch him soon.
