Boris genuinely and sincerely thinks (both on a conscious and a subconscious level) that he is superior to everyone in the country. I actually think he is genuinely confused about what all the fuss is. It is an enormous character defect which has always been there for all to see.
Trouble is, a large section of the loyal Tory voters have always told themselves and everyone that his private life is totally irrelevant provided he can do the job. But now that the same standards of integrity and honesty (or lack thereof) appear in BOTH his private and his professional life, those voters are acting all surprised and angry. Ironic.
And Carrie is cut from exactly the same cloth as Boris - they are a perfect match.
This is quite true. I hear this many times when people say 'oh, his private life doesn't matter - it is whether he can do the job'
My counterarguments to this are that firstly, behaviour into his private life gives you insights into how he will behave elsewhere. Why would you expect a man who has cheated on several different women, leaving them high and dry with his children, to behave with complete honesty and be above board in his dealings in government ?
Why would you expect a man who is known to be racist to deal fairly with people who are not white ? Why would you expect a man who is known to be misogynistic to be fair towards women ? Why would...well, you get the idea.
Secondly, these people tell us how to live our private lives. They pass laws and rules that affect our daily lives. So why should their private lives not be under scrutiny as well ?
The sheep who will vote Tory are a lost cause. There are still enough people in England (with no disrespect to the Welsh and Scottish - I know they'll never return Tories in any quantity) who can vote to get them out if the opposition is organised enough and the waverers are made to see what voting Tory actually means. It's no good being nice (naice ?) about it - you have to take the gloves off.
In my case I've been relentless with my mother who's a dyed-in-the-wool Tory lady and she actually said last night that she liked Angela Rayner and thought she was a really good politician. She also hates Boris Johnson. My point here being that it can be done if you don't let up and each time people say "Oh, but" you simply lay it all out for them in black and white and remind them exactly what they are voting for.
