Another Bloody Downing Street party

999 replies

JustJam4Tea · 10/01/2022 21:51

So hours after telling us to only meet one other person outside from a different household 100 invited to Downing Street BYO in the garden.

It was unlawful to mix outside. If my employer had invited 100 staff to a garden party we’d have all been arrested.

The opposition are unelectable, are they? all politicians are the same, are they?

Does Keir Starmer have to be made of fucking chocolate? By what possible measure is he not as good as BJ? Not all politicians would behave as BJ has done. That is just completely and utterly untrue and I have no patience with that attitude. That's what Johnson relies on people thinking: might as well have him because there isn't anyone better. You could choose anyone else in the country and they would be more competent than the current PM. There are few people in politics who show this level of contempt for their electorate.

Completely agree.
People just say that as an excuse to keep voting Tory.
It was the 150,000 Tory austerity deaths that did it for me. This was long before covid, life expectancy was actually falling in some parts of the country under Tory rule. But this latest lot, they're even worse that the last lot. You can't even pretend the Tories care about business or the economy anymore otherwise they wouldn't have brought us Brexit.

So what actually do the Tories care about that chimes with their voters?

AlexaShutUp · 11/01/2022 09:14

I'm past being angry about this. None of it is new. We have known for ages that he thinks he is special and that the rules don't apply to him. This is just more of the same.

What I'm really curious to see is how long he can continue to brazen it out before people finally decide that enough is enough. It is astonishing to me that he has lasted as long as he has, so maybe he will get through this too?

The man has no shame. He believes that his position is his entitlement, and that nobody can take that away. It's terrifying.

kittensinthekitchen · 11/01/2022 09:15

@Kendodd

Forriners?

Kendodd · 11/01/2022 09:21

Getting an electable opposition might be a good start.
The opposition are unelectable because Tory voters are too fucking thick to look up from the Daily Mail and before bollocks like this - They’re all the same! That is the problem

kirinm · 11/01/2022 09:25

People who claim they're all the same when they are very clearly not at all, say this purely to justify voting for this shit show and justify voting for them at the next election.

THEY ARE NOT EVEN VAGUELY THE SAME.

Poetrypatty · 11/01/2022 09:27

Keir Starmer used to be Director of Public Prosecutions and seems very straight laced and rule abiding. His wife works in the NHS. He's the polar opposite of the PM.

Cam77 · 11/01/2022 09:27

And Johnson always just laughs when he is questioned about it. I’m guessing he thinks smiling and laughing will somehow deflect the severity of the situation. When the Tories elected Johnson as leader for short term electoral gain they basically sold off their decency, any remaining political principles and and self respect.

OhWhyNot · 11/01/2022 09:30

I should be but sadly I am not shock

For so many separated from family when they were ill and dying is tragic people have to live with that sadness and pain. There is no excuse Johnson trying to be all jolly when questioned yesterday was sickening

Sadly I don’t think this revelation will do much a few will get a ticking off maybe a sacking and knowing that Dominic Cummings is behind the revelations doesn’t help many will tire of these revelations from a bitter man soon as it will be twisted into this is stopping the government getting on with government work

What next we have had this, senior ministers lining their pockets their will be something else

Cam77 · 11/01/2022 09:30

@kirinm
Exactly. You might hate all of them, but to say May, Corbyn, Starmer & Johnson are all the same is absolutely laughable. All wildly different characters both in terms of personality/personal values and their political outlook.

Fraternaltwin · 11/01/2022 09:30

@Eve

Hypocrites

And before anyone comes along and says move on, it’s not important, it fuckin is!!

How many people were arrested and hassled bu police for being in a park and Downing St was having a piss up!

It fucking is important, you are so right.

The level of deceit, hypocrisy and arrogance is unbelievable.

They have been laughing at us all whilst carrying on as normal.

JustJam4Tea · 11/01/2022 09:31

There's no way Theresa May or Kier Starmer or Tony Blair or (probably) David Cameron would have done this. Or created a culture where it was OK to throw a party on the same day they'd told everyone to only meet one person outside.

And yet people keep voting for them. Ultimately, the electorate is responsible for the terrible mess that we're in. We were not deceived. His character was known from the outset. This is the choice that people knowingly made.

My mind boggles at this, but then it did when he was first elected. It made no more sense to me then than it does now. And I'm sure that there will still be plenty of people who will go on voting Tory regardless. Bizarre but true.Confused

Likkleredridinghood · 11/01/2022 09:34

@Wintersun @Wntersun an opinion exactly. Any criticism of the government was framed as political point scoring.Pragmatically going along with the government made him a tory patsy depending on which side you were. The guy couldn't win. And no doubt any decent labour policies released to the press in advance would be pilfered by the tories anyway so why publicise your manifesto now ? Corbyn did have some interesting ones from the 2017 GE later shamelessly copied by the tories in the 2019 one.

ElftonWednesday · 11/01/2022 09:35

Can't say as I'm so bothered about this one, we had a street party, every sitting in front of their house or in their drive and all socially distanced, around the same time.

ElftonWednesday · 11/01/2022 09:36

But it really annoys me that the media sat on this and the Christmas party at the time. People would have been much more angry if they found out in the middle of full restrictions.

Wintersun · 11/01/2022 09:37

@Wintersun or is it @Wntersun (not sure why you have two names?)

In Dec 2021, when many were calling for a 'circuit breaker', Starmer was speaking out against it. How does that fit your narrative of "as many restrictions" as possible?”

Sorry silly name change error.

Labour called for lockdown several times, criticised easing of restrictions often and called Boris ‘reckless’ last summer and said they would support restrictions in December 2021.
I’m not a fan of Boris either.

OhWhyNot · 11/01/2022 09:37

They are not all the same

Not even all Tory MP’s are the same. Unfortunately there isn’t anyone lined up yet though Jeremy Hunt is pushing himself forward. He was on tv the other day claiming to be worried about the NHS Hmm

NewYearNewKale · 11/01/2022 09:40

Did I hear roughly 100 invited, 30 turned up?

Meanwhile we are encouraged by his pronouncements on the national news
to hate on the unvaccinated. Doesn't add up for me.
That smirking fizzog is a disgrace.

Cam77 · 11/01/2022 09:40

There has to be a general election. Forget all the lies and denials these past months. Just this one party in itself was a massive V sign aimed at the British public who were following the government rules, often at huge personal and emotional loss. Apologies no longer cut it. They were all in on it.

MissyB1 · 11/01/2022 09:40

@ElftonWednesday

Did you all congregate in one garden? Nope. Did you break the rules? I hope not.

The prime minister did. If you don’t care about people (including kids) dying alone in hospital whilst your prime minister broke the rules, than that says something about you.

Player067 · 11/01/2022 09:42

@ElftonWednesday

But it really annoys me that the media sat on this and the Christmas party at the time. People would have been much more angry if they found out in the middle of full restrictions.
I doubt very much that ITV or the Mirror were "sitting on" anything! Why would they? By contrast there is some suggestion that journalists at The Sun were invited to/attended some of the parties, which would explain their tactful silence on the matter.
NewYearNewKale · 11/01/2022 09:42

Clearly a lot of the invitees did not think it a good idea either.

AlexaShutUp · 11/01/2022 09:45

Did I hear roughly 100 invited, 30 turned up?

It's astonishing that there were no whistle blowers at the time.

SerendipityJane · 11/01/2022 09:46

Someone gave this lot an 80 seat majority

A bit of a back of a fag packet calculation means that statistically it's going to include some folk who are now "oh so outraged" that the bunch of despicable liars they were warned about have turned out to be a bunch of despicable liars.

Well who knew ?

(And if you didn't vote, you just get to suck this up anyway. Not voting is complicit in the outcome).

However, it's pretty much odds on they'd still win an election. So froth away and watch them not giving a shit.

The Great British Public. Foxes proudly carrying scorpions for generations. If you only teach your kids one fable, that's probably the one that's most useful in this land.

dinit · 11/01/2022 09:46

@ohfourfoxache I could not put him out of my mind when I heard this story.

So upsetting.
