A collie called Egg. Apparently the child of the family couldn't say Meg and it stuck.

I much prefer non human names on dogs. I think with all the extra possibilities you have for animals it's kind of boring to name an animal a human name.

I don't think I'll ever be in a position to actually have a dog, but I've always liked Hobbit names like Bilbo and Frodo. Not particularly original or funny but they just sound friendly and like they would suit a nice tempered dog. I knew a Bilbo once (black lab) and it was perfect for him.

I've also always liked Tarka after the otter and Gelert after the famous story.

Of my childhood dogs, my favourite name (but not my favourite dog actually) was Jaffa for a ginger coloured breed. Again, not original or witty, just a nice friendly kind of name.

We've got a King Charles cav called Bilbo (Bilbo Doggins, if being addressed formally..). As a compromise, i picked the breed so DH picked the name..

In the late 80s I worked with someone who called their puppy Kylie Ma Doag (Scotland).

I've seen a stunning bulldog called Frank, a staffy called John. I was going to call DGirlcat Margo but her original name really suits her.

I love human names for pets.

ElDoggo · 07/01/2022 13:22

NC as outing.
Wanted to call boy cat Trevor but he wouldn't answer to it. He did answer to Pedro

Greyhound is Dora, she came with the name and it suits her.

I do love human names for dogs. I know a few Dave's now

Our bitch is called Pamdela Panderson because she's so foxy.

budelle · 07/01/2022 17:35

Dave, how brilliant is that!

Harleyband · 07/01/2022 17:43

Dougalina- feminine version of the dog on the Magic Roundabout

supperlover · 07/01/2022 17:45

A friend's dog was called Fubar. Named by his brother who was a junior doctor at the time and apparently a naughty medical acronym - fucked up beyond all recognition.

Bunchymcbunchface · 07/01/2022 17:45

Julian

Ahardyfool · 07/01/2022 17:46

Jessicafirsttimer · 07/01/2022 17:47

ClaudiasWinkleMan · 07/01/2022 17:47

Big Dave for a tiny fluffy little thing.

I met a Brian once and thought that was pretty cool. My two are called Colin and Geoffrey. Their names often make people smile.
