Our dog is called Baxter, however his nickname is Tadger, and he answers to it.

SunflowerSmith · 06/01/2022 18:09

An English Bull terrier named Riff Raff.

Thatsplentyjack · 06/01/2022 18:11

Doug, as in short for Douglas, but we live in Scotland and loads of people say dug for dog, so I thought that one was quite good.

tadpole39 · 06/01/2022 18:12

Susan calman had a cat called dci jane tennyson, and a Ruth bader Ginsburg , so in that spirit I called my dog miss Amy Santiago from Brooklyn 99!

HeyUpits2022 · 06/01/2022 18:13

Cats called Curtis, Ninja, and Piglet
Hamster called Julie
Dogs named Boyce and Dave
Tortoise named Michelle
Horse called Del-Boy (because he's a trotter)

PenCreed · 06/01/2022 18:13

@Catswhisky

Deefer was on a sitcom years ago with Julia Sawala in it, it’s bugging me now trying to remember the name of the show.

Near us there’s a dog called Sprout which makes me smile.

I have a Basil who is now quite deaf so I get laughed at a lot when I’m shouting him loudly. Maybe need a Sybil next

It was Second Thoughts - I was trying to remember where I'd heard the name and when you mentioned Julia Sawalha I Wikipedia'd it.

Will never forget one on Mumsnet on a similar thread 😂

A sausage dog named Benedict Cumberland!

jamandmarmaladethesecondcoming · 06/01/2022 18:15

@WhatALump

When my exh (named Dave) and I got our first dog we named him Rodney. After Dave.

My parents were into the spaniel scene at one point. My favourites were:

Daniel (the spaniel)
Jerry (Springer)
Jarvis (Cocker)

pastypirate · 06/01/2022 18:30

And a stylish young women who always looks incredibly serious with 3 sausage dogs called Cumberland, Savaloy and Chipolata.

Amazing!!!! Savaloy is the best one I am dead!

KarmaStar · 06/01/2022 18:38

Richard.

@Whadda

I’m officially expanding this thread out to cover cats, ferrets, birds etc.
I always thought Babushka and Hildegarde would make great names for bunies! (Especially for those bruiser ones that look angry lol). I had a couple of others but forgotten them now.

And if I had a dog, especially a big old goofy type like a Bernese Mountain Dog (my favourite breed) I'd probably call him Barnabas (like the talking dog in the Sandman comics). I think it would work :)

pastypirate · 06/01/2022 18:41

@LakieLady

I met a man with a lovely Italian greyhound a couple of years ago. She was called Panigale. (For non-bikers, the Panigale is a very, very fast Italian motorbike.)

She was called Pan for short though.

That's gorgeous and so stylish and fitting for an IG
pastypirate · 06/01/2022 18:48

@sbhydrogen

There's a dog near me with the name Kate Moss. Her owner shouts her full name in the street. Hasn't lost its novelty yet.

I also like human names, like a Scottish terrier named Stephen.

Need to know the breed!
Runssometimes · 06/01/2022 18:49

Jackson, short for Spaniel L Jackson
A choc lab I met in France called oops.
Had a golden retriever called Whiskey and a black Lab called Guinness
Now have a very beautiful black lab called Dude although we didn’t name him. Kids love his name as we used to shout it quite often, usually followed by No! Leave it! Not your ball! He’s really chilled out now so is just an old Dude.

Yellownotblue · 06/01/2022 18:49

Hubert Bilodeau. He wore it really well.

Crayfishforyou · 06/01/2022 18:53

My friend had the best name for her tortoises:
-Voldetort
-Nigel Mansell
I’ve met a pig called Lewis HAMilton too
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’ve also met a cat called Karen.

Shallwegoforawalk · 06/01/2022 18:53

@Echobelly

My late aunt had a tiny, nervous English toy terrier called Fang - I think my brother came up with the name

Friends had a black pug called Chuck Gnawis Grin

Chuck Gnawis is excellent!
OhYeahyeahyeah · 06/01/2022 18:55

I once met a Grumpy French Bulldog called Bam Bam Grin

StarCourt · 06/01/2022 18:58

Timbo

AssignedBlobbyAtBirth · 06/01/2022 18:58

I met an elderly lady with a dog called Linda
I loved that she wasn't trying to be out there or edgy. Please no more dogs or cats called Dave with owners who think they are unique
She just liked the name

baffledbunny · 06/01/2022 18:59

Hinge and Bracket would also work for bunnies. I'd give them long pearls to swing around their necks.

When I had goldfish once, I called them Pearl and Jam.

Never had any real furry pets though as am allergic :(

SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/01/2022 19:02

In Scot’s Gaelic I think that’s Bus for You

They lied to me! Shock Grin

But dubh (I misspelled it) is definitely "black" - just be black bus.

I don't know - another illusion shattered!

Shallwegoforawalk · 06/01/2022 19:06

Sirius, the completely black lab. Owned by a big Harry Potter fan of course.

He's a total soft sweetheart of a dog.

Isseywith3witchycats · 06/01/2022 19:07

a friend of mine has an adorable frenchie called Gilbert
