@Pashazade it's this one Harth Hot Chocolate. Enjoy!

After reading this thread this morning we tried out two hot chocolates in London today. Said dal near Tottenham Ct Rd which was a tiny espresso size cup and very similar to a melted chocolate custard, seemed like it was thickened with cornflour, not very sweet. Then we had a hotel chocolat one which looked amazing. At first sight it looks like a chocolate whippet ice cream with the mound of mousse like whipped chocolate cream on the top! You need a spoon to eat the cream and stir it into the drink underneath- again not very sweet. Need to try Knoops next!

@Tumbleweed101 that reminds me of the delicious free hot chocolate you get in the hotels in Disneyland Paris from a vending machine. We fair got through them during our stay!

Downton57 · 03/01/2022 20:03

I had a thick, dark hot chocolate in a cafe in Seville and it was a revelation. I like Hotel Chocolat's 70% dark chocolate and York Cocoa House do a lovely dark hot chocolate too.

@poblwc awesome thank you! Grin

Caffè del Doge, Venice. Incredible.

Where have you had your best hot chocolate?

Cabosse in Warkworth. Very sad it is no longer a café but they still do take away. Liquid chocolate.

CleanQueen123 · 03/01/2022 21:54

A cafe at the far end of Marlborough high street, closest to the college. They did various hot chocolates, including white chocolate and chilli which was the best thing ever.

@Tomeeornottomee

In a tiny little back street cafe in Bruges...
lol, same

Prague, tiny cafe halfway up the hill towards the castle!

My tip with cheap powders (which I also hate), is add one spoon of cocoa - makes it actually taste of chocolate (had to do this recently when DC won some in a raffle).

I've never had a really good one when out and about but I quite like the "luxury" hot chocolate they do in Costa, it's pre-made and comes out of a carton looking like chocolate sauce.

CrimbleCrumble1 · 04/01/2022 12:09

I like adding one square of chocolate.

NalPolishRemover · 04/01/2022 12:51

Reading through these recommendations I've actually had a few of them over the years!

One of the most memorable I've had was when i was on my first trio to Paris as a late teen & I overheard another teen / early 20s person ordering chocolat chaud so I decided to try it

It was in a beautiful old style grand cafe overlooking a leafy square. The rich creamy hot chocolate came in a small silver teapot On a silver tray. I sat there revelling in the marvel of being alive & being in Paris! I can still picture it now & it's 30 years ago....

Since then I've had some amazing hot chocolates & travelling with dc means I've tried more than I would have if it were me alone.

Lindt cafe in Florence
Ritter sport cafe berlin
La chocletaria des Gines Madrid (though I wasn't so keen on this one)
Max Brenner Sydney
The New York Cafe Budapest
The Cubist Cafe Prague
E. Wedels Krakow
Butler's Dublin
O'Conaill's Cork
Hotel Chocolat London
Tiny cafe in gothic quarter Barcelona- the best churros con chocolata ever
Norma's in the Meridian Hotel New York

Honestly - Greggs 😆

GlumyGloomer · 04/01/2022 13:05

Eraclea, in Rome. No cream. Failing that though there was a Spanish cafe in Portobello Rd that also did really good hot chocolate. Also no cream, just nice thick dark chocolate.

Jumpingintomenopause · 04/01/2022 13:11

Cocoa black in Peebles - praline, whipped cream and a freezing cold day = bliss!

Proverie tea room Bruges - dark block of chocolate stirred into warm milk. No cream.

Rabot, Borough market - rum hot chocolate to die for!

CMOTDibbler · 04/01/2022 13:14

I had an utterly immense hot choc in Beaumaris last week which was a hot chocolate floater - choc syrup, steamed milk, cream all over a scoop of their home made mini rolo ice cream.
Coffee #1 used to do a white chocolate and chilli which was really good

HermioneWeasley · 04/01/2022 13:18

The cocoa whip at Hotel Chocolat is unbeatable. I used to order an extra portion on the side!

stmw123 · 04/01/2022 13:20

Hotel chocolat.

I also have a velvetiser for at home, it's the best. Real chocolate all the way

CrimbleCrumble1 · 04/01/2022 13:20

The Greggs comment made me chuckle. I do buy a lot from there and pay only a bit more and get a YumYum too!

bendmeoverbackwards · 04/01/2022 13:29

Angelina’s in Paris.

@CrimbleCrumble1 good tip 😜

Twenty odd years ago in Buenos Aires; sitting outside at a cafe in a old square, watching the tango dancers in the street, on a cold December afternoon. The hot chocolates there were called submarinos, and involved a tall glass of hot milk and a long bar of chocolate that slowly dissolved into the milk. Heaven.

Willthewashingeverend · 04/01/2022 13:46

A cafe in a hospital in Perth, Australia. Very unexpected and I keep meaning to go back to get another....delicious. Also had an excellent one in Poland. It was like drinking a rich chocolate sauce. They only gave you an espresso amount but it was totally enough!
