@CheesyChipsOnWembleyWay

Slatterys in Whitefield. It is essentially made with melted chocolate and is divine
Ooo almost forgot here, can't beat a Slattery's chocolate platter and hot chocolate 😋

Godiva before it became more popular. This was 15 years ago when I worked in London and we had a Godiva shop a few doors down. It was amazing. No cream or extras, just thick creamy, molten chocolate. It’s not the same anymore, I tried one a couple of years ago. Starbucks used to do an amazing mint hot chocolate, but alas, that’s also now ruined.

The one the DC got with the kids afternoon tea at Claridges. It was amazing - just really thick chocolate mixed with cream. I would happily have traded my glass of champagne for one.

In a scandi place in Brighton. Can't remember the name, but you could choose the % of cocoa-ness you wanted too

InglouriousBasterd · 03/01/2022 11:46

Chocolateria San Gines in Madrid - literally thick melted chocolate with churros for dunking - an extreme distance to travel (but worth it) Grin

BestIsWest · 03/01/2022 11:47

In the toy museum in Sintra, Portugal. It was so thick you could almost stand the spoon up. Utterly delicious.

@PinniGig

We used to rent some land that didn't have any power or running water and one horrendous winter when it did nothing but either pour down with rain or just freeze, I was up and sorting out horses in minus 4 freezing cold temp – 6am if that and with nothing but a head torch to find my way and stumble around.

That winter was horrendous it was nothing but a twice daily nightmare of cold, shit, sludge, mud and falling over everything. This one morning I'd just stuffed four massive hay nets, lost all feeling in my fingers and toes and still hadn't managed to get the water pipe fully thawed out when unannounced, my friend rocked up with a flask, bag of goodies and her little camping stove thing to save the day.

Didn't know she was even gonna turn up she just arrived like an angel, set the camping thing up, got some milk boiled and made me the best hot chocolate I ever had made with what I now know to be Martins Chocolatier premium flakes.

Swear to God it was so good I could have cried.

Love this. What a fantastic friend.

Mine was on a school trip to France many, many moons ago. It was an option at breakfast and it was delicious, served in a bowl type cup. Never been able to replicate it

Had a lovely one in St Albans Christmas market a few years ago, with a shot of Disaronno in it. Game changer 😀

Trumpton · 03/01/2022 12:08

5 years ago a friend and I went to Budapest and to the New York Cafe. The most amazing hot chocolate menu with cakes chosen to complement the hot chocolate. A local band playing in “The most beautiful cafe in the world”
A memory I will cherish.

Sorry I had to compress photo before it would post.

Where have you had your best hot chocolate?
SomethingSuss · 03/01/2022 12:10

Chocolate caliente in Barcelona.

My husband doesn't like hot chocolate because he doesn't think it should be thin and watery like he's always known it to be. He said he thinks hot chocolate should be like melted chocolate.
Then on a holiday in Barcelona I got him to try the thick, smooth, rich hot chocolate they have there and he loved it. This year I spent quite a bit of cash (for what it actually is) having some of the same brand sent over for a Christmas gift for him. Now I just need to get some churros to dip in and we're golden!

My best ever hot chocolate was from Ghirardelli’s in Disney Springs. It was like liquid chocolate. Thick, creamy and rich. Sooooo good, but highly calorific.
Never had a hot chocolate like it from anywhere else.
If you’re there in the summertime, they also did an amazing caramel quake shake! Omg.

Twinstudy · 03/01/2022 12:25

Angelina in Paris, about 25 years ago. More recently, and closer to home, cocoa Joes in York. No to cream or any other topping bits, I like it unadulteratedGrin

altforvarmt · 03/01/2022 12:26

@Celticdawn5

Cocoa Mountain in Durness. A long way to go for it though!
Same! It was amazing!

Leopard + Goat Farm Cacao Co In Fowey, Cornwall.

Like molton chocolate.. so good!

Jaxhog · 03/01/2022 12:35

Belgium. They have chocolate houses where you get a chocolate 'lollie' to melt into hot milk. Absolutely scrumptious.

I used to get their frozen mocha drink.. delicious!

Also… Dole Whip…. Grin

Best hot chocolate was in Italy. They put cornflour in it to thicken and it’s made with real chocolate. You could eat it with a spoon it’s so thick. Gorgeous.

Or the Bruges hot chocolate cafe where they serve a big mug of hot milk and a cup of chocolate buttons which you dump in and the cup melts and then you whisk all the chocolate in. Delicious.

I’ve got a velvetiser and that’s quite good for chocolate at home.

Pashazade · 03/01/2022 12:54

The first proper hot chocolate that has become my template was in Padua in a tiny hole in the wall cafe, amazing espresso sized cup of molten chocolate. Carluccio's was the only place that did this in the Uk, that I knew of! But very excited by the sound of Knoop!
Paul's patisserie also do good hot chocolate, it's kept in a heated rotating drum ice and thick!

DaisyWaldron · 03/01/2022 12:57

Ooh, one of the places mentioned, is just around the corner from where I work, and will still be open when I finish work tomorrow, so that's my back-to-work treat sorted!

FrownedUpon · 03/01/2022 12:57

Also Bruges. A thick, creamy hot chocolate poured from a pot. Delicious.

aquamarine1 · 03/01/2022 12:57

Ladureè in Paris. I don't even like HC and it was still amazing.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 03/01/2022 13:02

Wedel in Warsaw. Tiny cups of melted chocolate and cream.

TotoAnnihiliation · 03/01/2022 13:10

I used to adore Starbucks hot chocolate, I used to go every day when I as younger and had more money then sense. Tried one recently abs it was vile!

I do like a Costa Coffee hot chocolate now days as a treat. A work colleague has a velvetiser which she promised would change me life. I wasn't that overawed with it!

The best hot chocolate I had was in Australia, it came with a chocolate fondue where you dipped strawberries and marshmallows into hot chocolate. That was a happy day

Reading this thread to see if any recommendations for the West Midlands come up!

Longleat!! No idea on which brand they use but whenever we go there we have to get a hot chocolate 😋
@WingingItEveryDay7 they use Cadbury's at Longleat (insider knowledge Wink)
