Thanks

Is it just me who hates hot chocolate in a glass? I want it in a mug!

doodlejump1980 · 03/01/2022 10:40

In the chocolate museum in Barcelona. It was so thick you could stand a spoon up in the centre of it. It was amazing

IntermittentParps · 03/01/2022 10:41

Gail's have a choice of milk or two different dark ones (different cocoa mass percentages). The darkest one is excellent. They will make it with non-dairy milk too. Didn't get offered cream or anything but then again I didn't ask.

And yes, a glass is WRONG. If it's not a takeaway I want a nice chunky mug.

A little cafe in Amsterdam.

Shot of rum in it. Thick cream on top that didn't collapse into a foam, and tiny cookies stuck in the cream.

I miss that place.

DaisyWaldron · 03/01/2022 10:49

I've always remembered the tiny espresso cup full of dark, thick chocolate with a hint of cinnamon that I had in a cafe in either Biarritz or San Sebastian around 25 years ago. Nothing has ever been quite as good since.

OrangeBananaFish · 03/01/2022 10:49

The village shop near me. When we had a power cut the other week and had no heating I bought some from the shop. It was lovely.

Butlins do a nice one in their machine at breakfast/tea (I only ever have one at tea time though)

I do love the Maccy D's one and Costa is nice.

Starbucks is horrid.

Never have cream on as it cools it down too much. I like it hot hot hot.

Disneyland Paris 🙌🙌

Oldraver · 03/01/2022 10:56

A little title cafe on Elms Parade Botley Road Oxford

I'd almost given up on a decent hot chocolate anywhere and I still grumble about the supposedly Black Forest 'hot' chocolate I was once served in Costa.... Half a glass of lukewarm froth with a spot if cherry sauce in the too.

Oldraver · 03/01/2022 10:59

Oh and yes u have cream and marshmallows that were placed in top if the drink but under the cream. Don't get me started on the servers who think a few marshmallows ON TOP of the cream us ok. They need to underneath to melt

ParishSpinster · 03/01/2022 11:00

Cocoa Mountain in Durness. Its amazing. I think they melt their own chocolate into either milk or cream. And drizzle more melted chocolate on top. No whipped cream.

pinkcattydude · 03/01/2022 11:01

A small cafe in the South of France away from the main tourist areas in Menton. It was like drinking pure liquid chocolate and was so good, I still think of it years later.

Oh and no marshmallows, choc flakes, cinnamon or anything else as I hate all that!
Toddlerteaplease · 03/01/2022 11:16

I free sample at the good food show, from a company called Choccobar. I bought their liquid hot chocolate sachets and mix it with milk using the steam wand on my coffee machine.

Seasidemumma77 · 03/01/2022 11:23

Knoops in Rye

LarryandLeon · 03/01/2022 11:27

@Wafflesnsniffles- agree I hate hot drinks served in glasses. It seems to be a newish trend.
@Enko- ooh where is that? I do occasionally go there.

In terms of chains Leon does a pretty good hot choc & I agree about Hotel Chocolat. Also Knoops in Rye. Generally I’ve had good hot chocolate in beach cafes with all the toppings!

Amsterdam

StCharlotte · 03/01/2022 11:31

Italy.

LondonWolf · 03/01/2022 11:34

Hotel Chocolat with the chocolate whipped cream on top.

Also though the local van at my park does one with what looks like dark chocolate buttons which they pour hot milk over and then whisk up. No cream but frothy and amazing anyway.

I do think the offering of hot chocolate had really upped its stakes of late. None of that watery brown vaguely cocoa flavoured sludge anymore. Even at winter wonderland there were Cadbury’s hot chocolate stalls - cream and mini flake and they were really good too.

Fatgalslim · 03/01/2022 11:37

Me 3, Gingerbread cafe it was called

LondonWolf · 03/01/2022 11:37

Oh but the VERY best was at The Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi - hate to come up with some far flung place that isn’t easily accessible - but it truly was. Like melted creamy chocolate in a cup. No cream, you didn’t need it - also small portion, again you didn’t need anymore as so rich.

Okbye · 03/01/2022 11:40

Best hot chocolate of my life was in Bruges in 2009. I have a photo of it and I still think about it every now and again 🥺😋
