Who the hell are their buyers. Who in their right mind things faux leather shorts are suitable clothes for 4 year old girls. Can we stop with the sexualised clothing for little girls. its just fucking awful
What 4 year old girls need are hard wearin,g comfortable shorts in a decent length, with pockets for their toys not hooker pants.

I might get called names for this but, I think sometimes the mums dress their girls like they're dolls or little versions of themselves. It's bizarre.

Tigertigertigertiger · 02/01/2022 00:47

I know lots of mothers who dress their daughters in this sort of thing.
I agree, it’s horrid.

disneydreaming · 02/01/2022 00:48

I don't think anyone would buy these shorts for day to day wear but I expect most parents would pair with black tights underneath for a party...I really can't see the issue?
What sexualised about shorts on a child even if they a leather?

NinaDefoe · 02/01/2022 00:50

It’s been like this for years!
A friend of mine had a pair of skin tight black plastic/leathery jeans like Sandra Dee when we were at primary school. Late ‘70s, early ‘80s
She got them at the church jumble sale!
🤨😁

It’s a bit grim isn’t it?

reesewithoutaspoon · 02/01/2022 00:54

at 3 and 4 leather pants arent the most practical for playing in and are definitely associated with adult women.

It's just material.

RedCandyApple · 02/01/2022 02:47

Can’t get worked up about them , wouldn’t buy them for dd but I know plenty that would for their kids

1forAll74 · 02/01/2022 02:58

They look a bit tacky, but I am sure that some people will buy them.

AlDanvers · 02/01/2022 02:58

I have a bit of an issue with people saying clothes 'sexualise' children. They don't. Its just a pair of shorts. Fwiw, I don't know anyone who wears leather trousers at all of any age. Children should be able to wear whatever clothing without anyone have to fear some pervert is looking.

Not wearing leather doesn't ensure your kids are safe from perverts either.

I don't like the shorts. I would have bought them for dd. But I certainly don't think a parent that does is trying to sexualise their children.

Estellelove · 02/01/2022 03:14

I don't see the issue with them. Not personally my style, but I'm sure they would be paired with thick tights and a jumper.
Do you think all shorts are innapropiate for little girls? Or just leather ones?

jabmeupthe · 02/01/2022 03:19

I really prefer my own children to just dress up as children as we get such short childhood time with them. They have many years ahead of them to dress up like adults, let them be kids.

What does 'like children' mean?
Jumpingintomenopause · 02/01/2022 03:50

Not my cup of tea or anything I would like to dress DD in. However not exactly out of the ordinary these days either, similar can be found in River Island, Next, H&M, Zara etc.

Spreadingtheword · 02/01/2022 03:57

I found a stock image online (but won’t let me upload it here due to its size) of the same thing from Mango as TU don’t have a child model for their pair. Nothing sexualised about them, literally just a pair of faux leather shorts.

Sometimes I really do think that people who think children are sexualised by certain a clothing items need to get some help themselves.

But then I have found a children too with the slogan “sexy” on it once at a car boot. That does give me the heeby jeebies.. these shorts don’t.

ElftonWednesday · 02/01/2022 04:00

I don't see what's wrong with them, shorts are meant to be short (the ones I wore as a kid in the early 1980s were) and it's much easier for kids to run around in a pair of shorts than almost any other clothing.

SquatBetty · 02/01/2022 06:42

They're nasty and tacky but my main objection is the miniscule leg length for (the majority of) girls' shorts compared to boys' shorts - it's just fucking ridiculous.

icelollycraving · 02/01/2022 06:47

I don’t find these shorts sexualised. They are a pair of shorts which I’m guessing would be worn with thick tights not stripper heels. It would not cross my mind they are anything but shorts.

ThirdElephant · 02/01/2022 06:51

Urgh, tell me about it. It's irritating- girls' clothes are so often impractical. Teeny tiny high-leg pants that cause wedgies, pocketless trousers and cardigans, denim mini-skirts on toddlers for crying out loud (very restrictive RE: movement).

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 02/01/2022 06:52

Shorts and tights are an extremely practical combo for soft play.
(I usually went for a denim or cord, not a fake leather though...)

Limpshade · 02/01/2022 06:56

I'm not usually very bothered by these types of posts but I do find these shorts inappropriate - why oh why do girls' shorts (just universally) have to be so, well, short with either no pockets or teeny tiny ones? My preschool daughters cart around little cars and dinosaurs just like a little boy would and yet their clothes are miniscule in comparison to the boys' offering. It really depresses me.

ThirdElephant · 02/01/2022 06:56

Wouldn't tights be very slippery when trying to climb up soft play equipment? I'd put mine in trousers- if it's hot enough for shorts they don't also need tights.
GalacticGoddess · 02/01/2022 07:00

I wouldn't call them 'hooker pants' OP, many women wear these style of shorts and look great - it doesn't have to be inherently sexual for women to wear these.

I don't like them for a child though, and don't like the fact that River Island and other places just shrink their womens clothes. I love places like Zara/H and M for DD where it's cosy/durable/practical and age appropriate a lot of the time but also fairly on trend
