London fireworks

I thought the fireworks were amazing but was confused half the time with what was going on. It felt a bit all over the place - nevertheless I still enjoyed it but was just wondering if it was me that found it confusing?

Yes I agree, thought it all started a bit late too?! I’m not sure many people outside the UK would have recognised it as the London fireworks.

The final few minutes were the best and it was a wonderful display.

AnneLovesGilbert · 01/01/2022 01:06

It was crap. The fireworks were fine but the rest of it was very cringe worthy and flat. The choir made me want to hide behind a cushion.

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 01/01/2022 01:06

Underwhelmed

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 01/01/2022 01:07

Well someone's going to get sacked at sky news, they missed the whole thing. I know the beeb had been given the contract but they completely missed it. Panned away from Giles Terera too quickly, cameras desperately in the crowd desperately looking for the fireworks and the reporter exclaimed "Is that it?"

I like the drones, I think we could get rid of the fireworks all together and just use those. Not quite sure why ABBA was being sung in the globe.

Fairunibutterfly · 01/01/2022 01:08

Yep me too. Oh said he thought they’d be toned down this year but it didn’t look like it was. It was a shame as with the climate emergency I thought doing a light show with limited fireworks would have given a great message.

I liked the intro and choir but Not sure why they sang ABBA. I don’t know why there was a welcome message. The train stops at the end were a good idea but didn’t seem logical, first stop the earth, can’t remember 2nd, third stop NYE…

geojellyfish · 01/01/2022 01:12

It was awful! I liked the fireworks themselves and the drones are impressive, but there was too much going on, competing for attention. And I didn't understand why they cut away to the choir mid-display.

I loved it last year; tonight's missed the mark.

AlexaShutUp · 01/01/2022 01:12

We didn't see it because we were watching on Sky, who apparently went to the wrong location. However, we thoroughly enjoyed the chaos and the reporter saying "this can't be it!" - we started the new year with a laugh, which can only be a good thing!Grin

foreverlove · 01/01/2022 01:12

I was going to stay up to watch the fireworks but glad I fell asleep at 11pm and missed them.

Lindy2 · 01/01/2022 01:13

I like the drones. The fireworks seem so loud and harsh compared to what the drones can do now.

The words were a bit too try hard at times IMO but I still enjoyed it.

Sally090807 · 01/01/2022 01:14

Embarrassing and cringey, completely underwhelmed.

BellaChagall · 01/01/2022 01:15

I thought it was great. A positive start to the year.

We can always find something to criticise but sometimes it's just great to smile and look forward.

partystress · 01/01/2022 01:16

I think they handed the job to someone on work experience and that was their idea of something for everyone.

itwasntaparty · 01/01/2022 01:16

I just didn't get it. Why was the choir singing ABBA songs in the Globe?!

The fireworks detracted from the drones too.

Greenwich looked fab.

AnneLovesGilbert · 01/01/2022 01:17

@partystress

I think they handed the job to someone on work experience and that was their idea of something for everyone.
First thing I said was “this stinks of A level project”.
BellaChagall · 01/01/2022 01:18

Honestly, so many misery guts on here.

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 01/01/2022 01:18

Apparently according to the news the fireworks were deliberately spaced out around the city and not just centred around the Eye as they usually are, to deter people congregating in crowds to watch them.

Agree though the weird cut away to the choir (why singing Abba??!) was bizarre and we kept saying to the tv “errr is that it?!”

JohnStonesMissus · 01/01/2022 01:18

Yes I thought the same OP, the whole thing felt disjointed..

ForgedInFire · 01/01/2022 01:20

Me too. It started with the poem and I wondered if they had been cancelled and I hadn't heard. And then it kept cutting to a choir so we wandered outside to look at our neighbours fireworks because I thought it was over. The drones were good (especially the lion) but they overshadowed the fireworks themselves

Annabelle69 · 01/01/2022 01:20

It's such a global "look at us we've got the best fireworks" cringe competition... If I was in charge, I'd have one firework going off, with an underwhelming explosion and that's it. Or maybe someone holding a sparkler.

JustBkind · 01/01/2022 01:20

@BellaChagall I agree. I didn’t see a problem with any of it whilst sipping baileys, texting friends and seeing the new year in with my loved ones. Happy New Year everyone!! 🍾🥳

BellaChagall · 01/01/2022 01:21

JustBKind happy new year!

Mummytotwonow · 01/01/2022 01:21

@BellaChagall everyone’s allowed an opinion and to discuss. Im quite interested in what people thought and respect peoples opinions. I also didn’t know about the sky news issue until I saw the above Grin

YourVagesty · 01/01/2022 01:22

Watched on Sky News and just thought it was hilariously bad.

I loved watching the horror on the presenters faces as they realised they'd parked up at the wrong location.

HalfBrick · 01/01/2022 01:23

Were there more? I watched the big ben close up (straight to the chimes, no bing bongs before) a firework then a fella on the bridge then abba at the globe, dull so turned back to Jools H, didn't realise there was more.

LynetteScavo · 01/01/2022 01:24

Were you all watching something different to me? I thought they were great - I get a good view of fireworks in the town from my house (we're in a hill) but chose to watch the TV instead.
