What jobs would put you off a new partner ?

Lighthearted and not meant to offend.

My friend's neighbour has recently asked her out. He's lovely.

But....he works as a funeral director and my friend says she finds this so , so off putting.

This kind of reminded me of an ex boyfriend who dumped me when I went for an interview as aa trainee dental nurse, ( he had a complete phobia of the dentist). I didn't get the job anyway...

But it got me thinking , are there any jobs that would be a hard no from you from prospective partners:

Think I would struggle with Tory MP, Boarder force or bailiff tbh.

Humour me, self isolating and bored, ( and also want to persuade my friend that her neighbors job really isn't that bad...)

As someone who is a funeral arranger, I'm laughing at the suggestion that a funeral director is not date-worthy. All of our team are wonderful - kind, compassionate and good sense of humour. The only down side, as someone has pointed out, is that they have to take turns on the rota to be on call as they may have to go out and collect someone who has died at home. It's not a particularly well paid profession though, so don't date an FD if you want a rich spouse!

@Marzipano

Premier League footballer.
Definitely agree! I think ALL of them, every single one are cheating scumbags there are just some who haven't been caught yet. I also have zero empathy for the cheat-ees. They know full well what they're signed up to.

Anyone involved in right wing politics. Our world view would be too different.

ilssagain · 30/12/2021 15:54

A hunter - I live in a central European country in an area where the hunting profession is quite widespread - absolutely, no way, deal breaker for me. Couldn't live with someone who goes out and shoots deer and brings the carcasses home to butcher.
I've been asked out by several hunters and said no to all of them - I know what's involved and don't want it going on anywhere near me.

@MissNothing1991

No jobs would put me off. I'm not that shallow.
Really? You would date someone who was a pimp or an executioner?
Dixiechickonhols · 30/12/2021 16:04

Surprised by so many saying no to butcher. My grandad was a butcher. It was seen as a decent steady job. My mum always ate well growing up. He made sausages, cured cooked meats etc so was a very good cook unusual for men his age.
I can understand if you are vegetarian but if you eat meat surely someone who can bring home nice cuts of meat is a bonus. Also they deal with customers so are usually friendly and chatty.

OverByYer · 30/12/2021 16:06

Ive worked with Police Officers, social workers, teachers , and for a large insurance company.

I wouldnt say any profession was more unfaithful than the other. In fact the insurance company I would say was the worst.

Ezydoesit · 30/12/2021 16:07

Also, anyone involved In woo medicine (eg homeopath, osteopath etc)

Vegetalienne · 30/12/2021 16:08

Any job that involves hurting or exploiting animals. Farmer, abattoir worker, butcher, fisherman, dog breeders etc. Our principles would just be too different, I wouldn’t even want to be in the same room as them.

Lovemusic33 · 30/12/2021 16:12

I can’t see why any job would bother anyone 🤔, a jobs a job?

Obviously a job that meant he had not time to spend would me would be a bit off putting but that would be due to work hours and not the job itself.

chelle0 · 30/12/2021 16:12

@Animood by all means be a defence lawyer, I just wouldn't want to date one!

LidlMiddleLover · 30/12/2021 16:12

Proud to date a cop or forces
Never date an abbatoir worker or a professional animal hunter
Pro footballer or politician no
Anything airy fairy like amedium or ghost hunter would be off putting but not a total no no

I would guess it's the idea that you're handling dead bodies during the day that puts people off, rather than your personality?

Or that they're worried you'd be a bit too proactive in drumming up business. Unfortunately they haven't said which...

Dixiechickonhols · 30/12/2021 16:14

Probably less so these days but some occupations the spouse is expected to take on a role too. So don’t choose a vicar if you don’t fancy being a vicars wife, a mayor if you don’t fancy running mayoresses charity committee etc.

Raonbowwatermelon · 30/12/2021 16:15

On the flipside of things, there are certain jobs I'd find attractive:

Dog rescue centre worker
Guide dog/ hearing dog trainer
Animal sanctuary/ rescue worker
Dentist
Firefighter
Pastry chef
Nursery worker

Am kind of thinking of doing a thread for attractive job prospects

My brother's a funeral director - a kind, decent, compassionate man who is brilliant at his job. Nothing wrong with a funeral director!
