Brilliant film.

Shit ending. Completely useless addition.

Anyone else?

It was about half way through the credits.

Happylittlethoughts · 28/12/2021 09:27

Lost the will to live and couldn't finish it ... needed editing. Meandered on and on and on ....

Crackingowlsanctuary · 28/12/2021 09:28

I really liked it and can honestly say it has made me think more about climate change and the way a lot of us live in blissful ignorance. It was funny too.

I also thought the last scene was a bit rubbish and unnecessary and it would have had a more dramatic impact to leave that out. BUT it is supposed to be a dark comedy so I guess they were making sure it ended on a lighter, comical note.

ilovebagpuss · 28/12/2021 09:29

Yes I understand the message but I couldn’t watch it all as it was dull and don’t think the acting was particularly good. So many “clever” films you are supposed to rave about but they could still be entertaining and well written it was so slow.

Frazzled2207 · 28/12/2021 09:29

@Heruka

I think I missed the naked bit, was it after the credits?!
There is also a comedy bit after the end of all the credits
Bluntness100 · 28/12/2021 09:31

I thought it was quite good but not really understanding all this it’s soo relevant comments, it’s about a bloody commet hitting earth and if anyone remotely thinks America would be the only country to take the lead here, with only a brief mention of a couple of other countries, and we wouldn’t work together globally to remove the risk, and that there is some ship where folks are phoned at the last min to get on then they all front up naked, and they know the planets ability to sustain life but not about the animals they need to give their heads a wobble 😂😂😂

R11zz · 28/12/2021 10:32

I really enjoyed it. The actors were brilliant and it shows what happens when scientists are ignored. I think the bad reviews come from people who feel maybe it is rather a little too close to the truth.

TheDrsDocMartens · 28/12/2021 10:36

Loved it (credits scene did spoil that a bit). The reviews in media do seem to be pissed off by the digs at the media!

Andariego · 28/12/2021 10:41

Watched it last night, could see the message they were trying to put across but it wasn’t delivered well. It had no suspense and I never felt the panic the actors were supposedly portraying.

Andariego · 28/12/2021 10:43

And yes it baffled me why anyone would think America would take the lead on this kind of thing!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 28/12/2021 10:44

oh i wasnt going to watch it due to reading a bad review. perhaps i should

Fhee · 28/12/2021 10:53

I enjoyed it. I think the bit on the new planet was there to give satisfaction that the baddies didn’t get away with screwing over the entire planet.

Isn't that the point though? Very few of us are feeling the sense of panic/impending doom.that we should be.
RememberThePenguins · 28/12/2021 14:54

I thought it was very clever. The idea that we are sleep walking into a disaster really hit home. The scene towards the end where they are sat around the dinner table was incredibly well done. The actors really conveyed the idea of holding it together whilst they know what is coming.

The Ariana Grande stuff was a bit meh, but I understood the reason why they included it. The idea that we can solve climate change if we just a attend a few fundraising concerts etc.

Meryl was great as a Trumpesque figure, and I loved Mark Rylance's portrayal as a tech overlord.

The mid and post credits scenes were unnecessary though.

Andariego · 28/12/2021 14:57

@EmmaGrundyForPM I don’t think so, I got annoyed with the president, public etc for not taking it seriously but I felt no urgency/like they were running out of time that I think the audience should feel with a film like this. It had huge potential but massively flopped imo.

OvaHere · 28/12/2021 15:00

I liked it. The ending made a change from the usual deus ex machina where an American hero saves the day. Depressing but far more realistic.

It wasn't subtle so I can see why it has mixed reviews but I found it a good study of human nature.

covetingthepreciousthings · 28/12/2021 15:04

The film is an allegory for climate change, it is relevant, and the thing is no one across the world leaders seems to be taking any stance on trying to prevent that despite knowing what we are all walking in to..

missnevermind · 28/12/2021 15:16

I watched it last night but now feel as though I missed something. What is the social media bit.

StarCourt · 28/12/2021 15:46

Loved it but thought Mark Rylance really just repeated his Ready Player One character.

Fuckitydoodah · 28/12/2021 15:52

On the whole I enjoyed it but it was about 30 to 40 minutes too long. I started to lose interest and just wanted it to finish so I could go to bed.

Tornado70 · 28/12/2021 16:00

I loved it SO much. I’m still feeling rather unnerved by it though.
Loved all the symbolism in particular.

You need to watch all the way through the credits to the very end.
Roarsomemore · 28/12/2021 19:04

Watched it last night and left me feeling anxious about the destructive nature of capitalism. I normally watch very light TV and found this full on.

Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun · 28/12/2021 20:30

I really liked it with the exception of the completely random bits in the closing credits, which didn't really fit.

I thought the meal scene towards the end was great. Trying to be vague for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Roselilly36 · 28/12/2021 20:42

@hugocat

Switched it off after 20 mins
Me too, really not getting the hype
