Do you have a unique skill which is absolutely useless??

If I wake up during the night, I am able to tell the time almost exactly before I look at the clock! I don't know how I do it! Such a completely useless skill but I thought it might be a fun topic for a dull Boxing Day!

I have an eidetic memory for faces and names. I can remember where I met someone, what they are called, what they do, the names of their children for years. It creeps people out and they think I am stalking them!

Coffeetree · 26/12/2021 14:32

Oh I love these. I've been trying to make my jaw rumble.

Wish I could memorise numbers!

I can do that thing in pilates where you sit on the floor, hold your feet, and roll up to balance on your tailbone. I'm rubbish at everything in pilates but I can randomly do that one thing.

rifling · 26/12/2021 14:33

I can cross my ring and little fingers on both hands.
Can't everyone? Or have I misunderstood?

HipposHaveNipples · 26/12/2021 14:34

I can say the alphabet backwards, name all 50 US states and crack every joint in my body. None of these have been useful so far!

I've met people who can't. No idea what percentage of people can/can't though.
Yelloi · 26/12/2021 14:37

I can play old Mcdonald and other simple songs on the piano with my feet. A childhood of hating piano but being forced to learn it anyway and this was my act of rebellion, forced to go practise and I'd go off and play with anything but my hands Grin

TrashyPanda · 26/12/2021 14:41

@GlumyGloomer

I can cross my ring and little fingers on both hands. I was not born with this, as a kid I actually practiced until I could do it. I literally can't imagine wasting my time like that now, lol. 2 weeks ago I would have said that I never lose at jenga, as in literally never, but dd just stole my crown Xmas Shock
Me too!

I can be sick by breathing in and sort of pulling my stomach muscles in at the same time.

I've just discovered that I can do it 😂
MacavityTheDentistsCat · 26/12/2021 14:43

I can blow and eat fire. It's (obviously!) a learned skill rather than an inherent one (although I am probably a bit of an old dragon these days Grin) but pretty much useless all the same.

Bumpsadaisie · 26/12/2021 14:45

I have perfect pitch so I can tell what note next drill is sounding!

iklboodolphrednosedpaindear · 26/12/2021 14:45

Oh yes! I can be sick on demand as well. Very useful for getting out of school back in t'day. Also can fairly much be relied on to pee at will - not gallons of the stuff but enough for a sample, even if I've not had much to drink.

Balonziaga · 26/12/2021 14:51

I have a good 'word' memory for useless thing - song lyrics, complicated raps, every word of dialogue of every cast member of every school play I've ever been in (can literally recite an hours worth of lines from Primary School plays).

I can impersonate voices and do almost perfect accents of most languages.

I can forge handwriting and signatures really well.

I can't make yorkshire pudding, stick to a diet, throw a ball or change a tyre though.

So broadly - useless.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 26/12/2021 14:51

I can fold a map back up so that it's as flat as when it was first bought. I could do it even as a child, it amazed my father who used to totally lose patience with maps and would end up scrunching it into a mess. It has been a completely useless skill for over a decade now as everyone uses their phone.

I can write with both hands. I didn't know that I could until I was studying Arabic and having trouble writing it with my right hand, so I tried with my left and my handwriting instantly improved.

Ritascornershop · 26/12/2021 14:56

I never get lost. I can go to a totally new city and find my way to a place. If it’s a big city where I know some parts then I can find my way to specific places without a map. Honestly it’s not very useful and never impresses.

When my older dc was little she and I would spell conversations her little brother couldn’t be part of (to avoid his toddler tantrums). It drove their father mad as we’d be spelling along at a clip without pauses between words and he couldn’t keep up.

I can also read upside down and backward. This could be useful if I was a spy I suppose.

wastingtimeagain · 26/12/2021 14:58

I'm really good at getting lost.

titanic25 · 26/12/2021 15:02

Does laziness count ?

sashh · 26/12/2021 15:03

tell tiny differences in weight.

I've said this on here before, I have two kindles, to me one is heavy and the other isn't. Due to a discussion the kindles were weighed, there is a 4g difference.

Gingernaut · 26/12/2021 15:03

I can roll and fold my tongue

flimple · 26/12/2021 15:05

I'm really good at the answer smash round on Richard Osman's House of Games. Sadly I'll never get to show off my talent on the show as I'm not a celeb, but DH and the DCs look mildly impressed at least Grin

foxgoosefinch · 26/12/2021 15:05

I can instantly sing perfect harmony to any tune, even without having heard it before. No idea how or why - I don’t have perfect pitch or anything!

WeaverofWords · 26/12/2021 15:05

I can make myself sneeze!

Last time I was bored & read a thread like this, I went through and tried to do/learn everyone’s “talents” too. I can now say the alphabet backwards and know the names of all the countries of Africa in alphabetical order 🤣

gelatodipistacchio · 26/12/2021 15:06

Can't everyone read upside down and write backward???Confused

Theworldisquiethere · 26/12/2021 15:09

I can still fit my hand into a Pringles tube despite having hands as big as/bigger than most of my male friends.

I can bend my fingers totally flat against my palm.

I can read upside down and mirror image effortlessly.

WakeUpLockie · 26/12/2021 15:09

Some people can’t do those things the regular way…
Theworldisquiethere · 26/12/2021 15:10

I can also write a word normally with my right hand and mirror image with my left hand at the same time
