Do you have a unique skill which is absolutely useless??

If I wake up during the night, I am able to tell the time almost exactly before I look at the clock! I don't know how I do it! Such a completely useless skill but I thought it might be a fun topic for a dull Boxing Day!

i can recite the alphabet backwards really quickly Grin

iklboodolphrednosedpaindear · 26/12/2021 12:16

I can put mascara on with my mouth closed.

Read upside down & back to front. Useful when sneakily looking at paperwork on the boss' desk!

Say the alphabet backwards.

Most anagrams look like the word they're supposed to be to me, rather than jumbled letters.

@DogDaysNeverEnd

I used to have to cross a busy road on my way home from school that was a blind corner coming up a hill. I could 99% of the time listen and know what model car was about to come around the corner. I was also fascinated with number plates and phone codes and knew where they were all from (in the UK). If only my brain would hold useful things...
Omg are you me? Cars are not as distinctive now but years ago they sounded different and I was able to do the same. Particularly with French cats.

Then I worked in a call centre for a bit and years later because of that job I will still know most post codes and dialing codes. I had a marketing guy call me last week saying he was from my local area blah blah. I told him that I knew he was miles away in Bournemouth (code 01202) and he called me a smart arse and hung up Grin

Cheeseandlobster · 26/12/2021 12:19

I can tense a muscle in my ear to make a rumbling noise. I discovered other people can do this via another mumsnetter. Apparently its a rare but not unheard of "skill"

RumJerrySailorRum · 26/12/2021 12:21

I have a really good sense of direction. It's useless a lot of the time but comes into it's own when in a new place.

The only problem being, most people(men usually) don't believe me when I just randomly (to them) point somewhere and say where we need to be is over there.

I just walk off now and leave them to it, they find me eventually, having a glass of wine usually Grin

ShinySquirrel · 26/12/2021 12:24

I can close my nostrils over. I can also open and close them very quickly.

runningfromtheoutlaws · 26/12/2021 12:26

Excessive sleeping and still being exhausted

dancemom · 26/12/2021 12:29

I remember numbers, phone numbers, bank account numbers, credit card numbers, if I read them once they just stick in my brain. I can also recite all the books of the bible

flinginflangin · 26/12/2021 12:29

I have an amazing memory and a skill for remembering details about everyone I've ever known. I was chatting to a girl from my primary school a few weeks ago out in town, she could just about remember my name but I realised I knew her name, birthday, sister's name, sister's birthday, where her gran lived and dog's name. I didn't tell her because I think I would have come across a bit scary, but it's like details don't leave my brain once they are there. I can do this for most people from my childhood. I suppose it's not completely useless, though!

SpookyScarySkeletons · 26/12/2021 12:30

I can remember every phone number (both landline and mobile) I have had since the age of 4.

Yet I have absolutely no idea what I changed my amazon password to last Monday.

TimeIhadaSeasonalNameChange · 26/12/2021 12:40

I can neigh realistically. Am sure it'll be useful at the zombie apocalypse 🤣

Mammyofasuperbaby · 26/12/2021 12:44

I can read backwards and upside down, tell the time - usually to the minute without needing a clock and predict our shopping bills to within a few pence without tracking to cost of the items.

However I seem to also be able to predict deaths within the family. I'm 6 for 6 currently. 4 of these have been unexpected deaths, literally dropping down dead. Case and point, my grandfather. Perfectly health man. I told my dm that I had a feeling grandad was going to die very early in the morning. We got a phone call at 8am saying that he had died in the bathroom in the early hours of the morning.
It's happened several times but strangely enough people ask me if family member will die but if I don't sense it, they live, even from the brink of death.

iklboodolphrednosedpaindear · 26/12/2021 12:45

Ooh me too. DH thinks I'm a freak.

statetrooperstacey · 26/12/2021 13:01

I can get my foot in my armpit Grin
Left one in left side and right one in the right side, I used to be able to do them both at the same time if someone propped me up!

Nailsbythesea · 26/12/2021 13:02

If I look at a phone number the actual number I can remember it for ever. Less useful now a name flashes up and not a number

Comedycook · 26/12/2021 13:03

I know the capital city of every country in the world.

Utterly useless really.

WakeUpLockie · 26/12/2021 13:05

Can make my eyeballs shudder rapidly side to side. It is indeed useless. My friend at school was horrified I could do that, as she could do and she was furious that she wasn’t unique 🙄

Most of my skills are useless in that they are not money makers. My skills are in music, art, cooking, debating. But clearly not business 😄

FrancesFlute · 26/12/2021 13:05

@ArblemarzipanTFruitcake

I can also write in a mirror image

I can do this but only with my left hand (I'm right-handed).

I'm also good at this and upside down mirror image too!
WakeUpLockie · 26/12/2021 13:06

Oh yes I can do mirror writing too. Very handy for cafe work!

I can do that too! It feels quite nice. Like a pp I can read upside down, and guessing the time when I wake up no matter what time it is (middle of the night or whatever). Also very good at remembering birthdays.
Kljnmw3459 · 26/12/2021 13:11

I can make my tongue vibrate.

GlumyGloomer · 26/12/2021 13:13

I can cross my ring and little fingers on both hands. I was not born with this, as a kid I actually practiced until I could do it. I literally can't imagine wasting my time like that now, lol.
2 weeks ago I would have said that I never lose at jenga, as in literally never, but dd just stole my crown Xmas Shock

Mammma91 · 26/12/2021 13:16

I can click my fingers using my thumb and pinky. The only time I ever click my fingers is because it makes my 2 year old laugh, useless talent but I’ve know anyone else to be able to do it. I can also click my thumb in and out of place and it makes a clicking sound. 🤣

Ooh I can do that too, I never knew it was rare.

I can also roll my eyes independently of each other; remember a song I heard once years ago like I’d only just heard it (music and lyrics) and write a rhyming poem as quickly as I can physically write.

On the flip side, I have absolutely no memory for films or tv shows at all - I can watch a film several times and remember absolutely nothing about it. And I have terrible face recognition which can be really embarrassing. I could chat to someone all night at a party and walk straight past them the next day.

SequinnedShawl · 26/12/2021 14:21

I know where everything is. I've learned to not know otherwise he doesn't even bother to look.
