Ever watched a new show you love and no-one else has seen it?

I just started watching This Is Us this week and I’m completely hooked but no-one else I know has seen it or wants to see it. It’s rubbish when this happens and you want someone else to get excited about it with you. It was the same when I watched Fleabag and The End of the Fucking World. Ever had this happen to you?

@Pinkstegosaurus

I’m obsessed with The Great on Amazon (about Catherine the Great) and no one apart from my parents are interested!
Oooh I need to start this I keep seeing adverts
Sidge · 24/12/2021 16:13

Oh and I loved Happy! on Netflix. Bonkers.

icebearforpresident · 24/12/2021 16:26

@PathOfLeastResitance, you’re not alone, I love Shrill as well. Aidy Bryant &Lolly Adefope are brilliant.

There was a French drama on Sky Arts years ago, I think it was called Hard? It was about a woman whose husband died, she thought he was a web designer but he actually owned a porn studio. She takes over the business and makes it more female driven. I loved it at the time.

And speaking of French drama, Les Revnants! It was on channel 4, all these people from this tiny French town started coming back as they were when they died, so there was a twin who came back about 12 years old but her sister was now 18. It was creepy in a good way and everyone’s houses were beautiful.

Yes exactly the same thing with this is us! I tried to encourage others to watch it but sadly nobody took to it (which is bizarre to me!!)

MrsTophamHat · 24/12/2021 16:37

I love love love This Is Us and I don't know anyone who watches it. Milo Ventimiglia is very attractive in it.

MonicaGellerBing · 24/12/2021 16:39

Banshee (the one about the fake sheriff) - best thing I've ever watched but can't find anyone else who's heard of it

CrimbleCrumble1 · 24/12/2021 16:42

Wayne, it’s about a likeable psychopath
Shtisel , amazing.
Scrugim (sort of like friends set in Jerusalem)
Ancestral Land , Russian about 4 siblings, absolutely brilliant.

CrimbleCrumble1 · 24/12/2021 16:51

Oh and The OA, how could I forget that one?

Nurse Jackie was brilliant.
I watched this during nightfeeds with newborn twins (instead of gazing lovingly at them Wink ) but I couldn't watch it again as it reminded me too much of sleepless nights and desperately trying to get them both to sleep!

CarButtonCloth · 24/12/2021 17:23

I know loads of people who love This is Us but I could only manage one episode - too schmaltzy for me.
I loved Pose (first season at least. By the third it had gone very schmaltzy too) but don't know anyone else who's seen it.

CrimbleCrumble1 · 24/12/2021 17:28

I loved Pose first series too.

MarshaBradyo · 24/12/2021 19:25

Some of these are quite popular

I liked This is Us at the beginning but after a while got saccharine overload

Fauda led me to Caliphate - a Swedish Netflix series about Muslim students being taken to Syria

Exceptional - and the ending stayed with me

DerAlteMann · 24/12/2021 20:02

@NutellaEllaElla

No one's ever seen Blue Stone 42 and it was great
I have, and I agree (except the last episode - that was crap).

@CaptainHammer

Yes! Currently with What We Do In The Shadows. No one I know likes it but it’s SO GOOD and I want to talk about it!
I LOVE this show. Have managed to convert a friend. 🦇

I’m obsessed with Ted Lasso, no one I know has watched it, and my descriptions don’t seem to do it enough justice and convince anyone to watch it!

Also loved Ratched on Netflix, but again, no one else seemed to have even heard of it!

@MarshaBradyo Caliphate was amazing, I really enjoyed it!

I ❤️ Ted

My Canadian cousin put us on to it

I can't stay to read the whole thread, will do so later, but I must say that you have excellent taste. This is Us is wonderful, I am envious of you being just at the beginning.☺️

Series 6 airs in January and as we have a group chat with friends and family the tension is building.

Have you watched Jane the Virgin? That excellent too, great acting and lots of fun and drama.

(I will look for recommendations on here when I get out of the bath)

A few years ago I became absolutely OBSESSED with Twin Peaks: The Return but no one I knew was watching it and I had no one to discuss theories with!

LuckyAmy1986 · 26/12/2021 12:34

Big Love!

Innatenvi · 26/12/2021 19:53

@Amortentia

The Cleaner, on BBC iPlayer. Found it by accident and it’s very funny, but I haven’t heard anyone else mention it or seen any promotions for it.
We loved The Cleaner too.
UsernameInTheTown · 26/12/2021 20:26

Mallory Towers. Probably because I am 42 and all my friends are around that age and it's aimed at a somewhat younger audience. Bloody love it though
Nobody has ever seen Dark Towers or Geordie Racer, from primary school in the '80s.

minny80 · 26/12/2021 20:53

Great thread, lots of suggestions! I don't know anyone who has watched Behind Her Eyes on Netflix, although it appears to be trending now so maybe it will change soon
