Do you do laundry on Christmas day?

Sorry a bit of a dull thread!

Just wondering if other people stick a wash on? I always seems to have loads of laundry...if I have a day where I don't do any, I find it really piles up and I end up with a backlog. On the other hand, it feels totally shit to do washing on Christmas day! What do you do?

@MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry

A towel that has been used only once on a clean body, fresh out of the shower, is very much on the clean end of the spectrum.

Cleaner end.

Cleaner End GrinGrinGrin

I don't mind putting a wash on on Christmas Day but there's no way I'm sitting down to eat with clothes drying in the background. We don't put a load on each day anyway (and towels get washed when they get put in the washing basket)

@MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry

Get a grip, it’s a towel that’s been used to dry something clean, it’s not going to kill you

Nor would licking my fork and putting it back in the drawer ten times before washing but I’m not going to do that either.

🙄🙄🙄

I pat my washing machine, wish it happy Christmas and walk away! That's one day when I don't do it.

Tightwad2020 · 24/12/2021 16:03

Does anyone else sometimes feel like advances in technology that are supposed to reduce the household burden on women (like washing machines) don’t actually end up reducing the load that much because we all keep inventing more and more pointless tasks we have to do?

Yes! exactly this. Making the task less physically arduous just seems to mean you do it more often. The bar for acceptable levels of cleanliness just keeps rising. I have managed to persuade my husband that a shirt that has been worn to walk from bedroom to study and sit at his desk, can go more than once. I have a very good sense of smell, nowt gets past me. But I can wear clothes many times, since my daily life does not routinely involve equine sports, digging turnips or roads, and I don't stink up my garments!

I am pretty houseproud, but I do feel that a lot of my desire for clean and tidy is driven by Pinterest and impossible depictions of beautiful, styled interiors. It seems to be the middle-aged version of the impossible standards of beauty pushed at younger people.

Tightwad2020 · 24/12/2021 16:07

Although now I remember it (thanks, OP!) I did have to put the machine on last Christmas because the dog was sick over my son's bed. Properly vomity , not just the yellow bile stuff. So everything - duvet cover and duvets had to be done.

britneyisfree · 24/12/2021 16:31

@MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry

I might put it on, but I’ll definitely forget to take it back out again. So just like most other days really Grin
Are you me?
lindyloo57 · 24/12/2021 17:24

I would if I know that it will be a dry day.

fetchacloth · 24/12/2021 17:24

@Sunsetsupernova

How often is everyone else changing their towels then? It’s more like every 2 weeks here
Weekly in this house. They start to smell musty by then🤢
CauliflowerBalti · 24/12/2021 17:25

If necessary... It's no hassle really.

Sparks2208 · 24/12/2021 17:35

I've just put a load in now and hoping it'll dry overnight so I can pop it away first thing, meant to do it earlier. Try not to wash on christmas day as I dry it in the living room (it's a big room) and don't really want the clothes horses out . Generally wash a load everyday apart from sunday. As for towels, they get washed now and again 😉

Minfilia · 24/12/2021 17:38

Only the Christmas tablecloths and napkins will go in the wash.

We are a family of six and we don’t need to wash stuff daily!

ElvinBoys · 24/12/2021 17:41

No definitely not. I do make sure the washing basket is empty on Christmas Eve though so there isn’t a backlog.

MummyToOrla · 24/12/2021 17:44

Yes we will be - have an 18month old in cloth nappies and tomorrow is main wash day. Don't have enough night nappies to stretch to a 4 day cycle so everything gets main washed every 3 days regardless of what day it is. Easy enough- will load the machine tonight and then just chuck the night nappy in for prewash tomorrow when we wake up and get her dressed then fling the last 2 days worth in an hour later for the main wash.

Tessabelle1 · 24/12/2021 17:46

Nope, even my washer deserves a day off too

murakamilove · 24/12/2021 17:49

Never (unless we were ill?)

WildRosie · 24/12/2021 17:49

I will be. Nothing today so bath towel and bath mat tomorrow, plus whatever else is in the laundry basket.

CloR86 · 24/12/2021 17:53

About 7-10 days for a towel. And no, they don't smell by then.
Will put a wash on of cloth nappies, which is surely better for the environment than thousands of plastic nappies in landfill.

gogohm · 24/12/2021 17:53

No did it today won't do any to 27th

pommedeterre · 24/12/2021 17:57

We’ve got a quiet Xmas weekend this year and work/family has been so stressful this December that I’m so excited about the break from real life so I can catch up on my laundry!

People are so weird about Christmas!

Juanbablo · 24/12/2021 18:04

No. But I have been washing like crazy to get rid of the pile beforehand. The basket is still full so I give up and will try to catch up after Christmas. We have 5 people and a dog.

Sturch16 · 24/12/2021 18:04

Yes I do coz my teenagers have brought me down around 6 loads of washing on Xmas eve and dumped it on kitchen floor next to washing machine 🤣

MummyMayo1988 · 24/12/2021 18:08

I aim not to. I get tons done in the week leading up to Chrostmas day. We're a family of 5 tho and it soon mounts up.
If I needed to; I would put one on x

liveforsummer · 24/12/2021 18:10

The problem is I don't have anywhere to keep cleanish stuff. I don't want to out dirty clothes back in the wardrobe or drawers. They generally have cooking or horse stable smells on them so although they could probably be re worn for those purposes where am I meant to store them
In the mean time in an already too small and cluttered 2 bed flat 🤷🏼‍♀️. I notice and regret if I miss a day. Towel for 10 DAYS??!!!! 2-3 ok but TEN! 😬

GinTonic123 · 24/12/2021 18:14

No! Better things to do…. but I have no need to.
