Do you do laundry on Christmas day?

Sorry a bit of a dull thread!

Just wondering if other people stick a wash on? I always seems to have loads of laundry...if I have a day where I don't do any, I find it really piles up and I end up with a backlog. On the other hand, it feels totally shit to do washing on Christmas day! What do you do?

We used to chase our food for 12-14 hours a day.

Is this true? I’m not sure it is. I was reading something recently on work life balance and it referred to the fact that our primitive ancestors only worked for about 15 hours a week.

@MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry

Change your towel every 10 days.

🤮

I had the same reaction. That's disgusting. How often do you change your bed sheets????

Yeah, 5 hours seems more accurate as opposed to 12-14! And I wouldn’t imagine it’s every day either.

Iamanicepersonreally · 23/12/2021 19:22

I intend to, bit I like seeing the washing going round in the machine. Yes, I'm odd

JMAngel1 · 23/12/2021 19:30

Given that I've done 6 loads today (and the basket is still full), I think the chances are high.
I stripped all beds, did the towels, throw blankets, uniforms, gym gear, PE kits - it is never ending!

HarrisMcCoo · 23/12/2021 19:35

Tea towels, dish cloths washed every two days. Bath towels once a week. Face cloths, daily.

WasgijGods · 23/12/2021 19:36

Used to do a nappy wash only when kids were little. Nowadays I tend to empty the machine Xmas morning so I can put all the tea towels/table cloths/napkins/hand towels which somehow amount to a full load by the end of the day, so I can put it on over night.

HarrisMcCoo · 23/12/2021 19:37

I don't think I will put a wash on this Christmas, unless the youngest poops in his pants then I have no choice but not planning to. We deserve a day off!

Kitkat151 · 23/12/2021 19:39

@ShirleyPhallus

No, but then I’m always vaguely horrified (yet can’t look away) at MN laundry threads because people often say they have about 3 loads per day and I just can’t imagine creating that volume of laundry.

Wear a jumper twice. Change your towel every 10 days. Nothing will happen except for less laundry to do

Every 10 days 😱
theshadeofgreen · 23/12/2021 19:51

Noooo!! Although I've done an extra load today and have one in ready to go first thing tomorrow to make up for it!

Abraxan · 23/12/2021 19:56

No, but I appear to do far less laundry than your average MNetter.

I don't know anyone who'd start doing laundry on Christmas Day unless someone had an accident and something needed washing asap.

Bloodypunkrockers · 23/12/2021 20:08

It's not hard to put washing on but I draw the line at having my pants drying on the radiator while we're having Christmas dinner

So, no

Dresslover1950s · 23/12/2021 20:17

👏

NMC2022 · 23/12/2021 20:19

Maybe I use my towels differently Confused I wipe down my arms and legs and wrap it around me, I don't go vigorously drying my arse crack or anything so it's absolutely fine to use it for a week

CSJobseeker · 23/12/2021 20:22

@MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry

Can anyone explain why towels that aren’t dirty after use suddenly become dirty after 10 uses?
You know that dirtiness isn't a binary thing, don't you?

It's not that something is either 100% dirty or 100% clean, with nothing in between. Unlike biological sex, dirtiness (and cleanliness) is a spectrum.

A towel that has been used only once on a clean body, fresh out of the shower, is very much on the clean end of the spectrum.

I’m glad you spelled that out for those that can’t understand washing a towel that has been used.

Cleaner end.

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 23/12/2021 20:30

Cleaner, that is, than one that has been used 10 times and will have more of the accumulated detritus than the 1st use towel has. Neither are clean. One is just dirtier.

Bunnycat101 · 23/12/2021 22:19

Ideally not. Had one year when child no.2 was vomiting every day over Christmas period so had to then as otherwise would have had yucky sheets/clothes. Otherwise I can’t see the need for a day unless you’ve got a turnaround of guests that need bedding changed but even then Boxing Day would surely be fine.

Whenthechipsaredownillbearound · 23/12/2021 22:27

@NMC2022 I know, same 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣

stupiduser · 23/12/2021 22:35

Nope. I don't want washing hanging on radiators etc on Christmas Day so the washing machine is off now until at least the 27th

CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 23/12/2021 22:37

No, but I'm going to do about four tomorrow!

littlemisslozza · 23/12/2021 22:44

NO! We're a family of five and I generally do one wash per day. Definitely not on Christmas day
