Would you rather have two eyes or one large one?

I was pondering this morning as I put my mascara on that I’d save a lot of time if I only had one eye like cyclops.

But then I wondered if I actually would since presumably my one eye would be a very big one.

And then I thought that my one big eye would allow me to see much better than my 2 small ones (I’m ridiculously short sighted). So even if it didn’t save me time doing my make up, it would generally serve me better in the being-able-to-see stakes.

Anyway, I didn’t manage to reach a satisfactory conclusion to my pondering so thought I’d seek out other opinions.

I have got toes like fingers, they are freakily long and thin

Can we see them?!

We use our eyes and eyebrows to express so much socially that we'd have to recalibrate all of that if we had one eye instead.

There are far more possible combinations of facial expression with two eyes and two eyebrows as opposed to only one of each.

While I'm sure we'd manage to develop other ways of communicating the meanings behind those different (and often very subtle) facial expressions, I wonder how our language and body language would adapt to convey the things we currently tend to convey with two eyes and two eyebrows.

Part of this would be affected by whether we would all be changing to one eye, or just some people, and/or whether the one eye scenario would leave us remembering having two eyes or whether we'd be starting completely from scratch.

One big eye would be .such better.
Would be matching my big nose and mouth!

But thank you OP. This made me laugh so much

BitterTits · 22/12/2021 21:56

Two so I didn't look like a fucking freak of nature.

underneaththeash · 22/12/2021 21:58

From an optometrist point of view two is significantly superior.

Cas112 · 22/12/2021 21:59

Two just incase something happened to the one

RobertSmithsLipstick · 22/12/2021 22:01

Supposing you sadly lost the one big eye.
Imagine how heavy a glass one would be?
You'd end up with a saggy socket!

InvincibleInvisibility · 22/12/2021 22:01

My 7 year old would ask: would you rather drown or be eaten by a tiger?

And various alternatives, all of which involve dying in pain Confused

RobertSmithsLipstick · 22/12/2021 22:02

And it would need a massive eyebrow.
Imagine waxing that?

InvincibleInvisibility · 22/12/2021 22:02

Oh and I want 2 eyes, sing the last word, toes like fingers and 4 hands

Wendyer · 22/12/2021 22:49

Just leaving this here - it may help people make the choice between 1 or 2 :)

Well to be fair, you do get a moustache included.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 22/12/2021 22:56

@autumnboys

Two.

I have a 12yo who is constantly asking me these sorts of questions so I shall run it past him as well. Grin

Me too!
FissionMailed · 22/12/2021 23:04

If you have 2 eyes, you're above average.
If you have 2 ears, you're above average.
If you have 2 arms and 2 legs, you're above average.

So next time you feel less than special, remember, you're above average... Somehow at least.

Feelingoood · 22/12/2021 23:11

Now I’m imagining the glasses I’d need for one massive eye! Or would that be a glass? Where would the diamanté wings go?left or right?

HemanOrSheRa · 22/12/2021 23:17

I think it would be ok if the one eye was big enough. Your poor Dp, I bet that was really painful. I hope you at least got unblocked drains out of it. Our drains weren't blocked, he was doing someone a favour. No good deed goes unpunished! He burned the surface of his eyeball 🙄.

midlifecrash · 22/12/2021 23:17

Why have I still got depth perception when I close one eye - or haven’t I? I think I close one eye when I do mascara anyway is it any different?

RobertaFirmino · 22/12/2021 23:24

I've always thought parents should actually have three eyes. Two in the normal place and one at the back.

100problems · 22/12/2021 23:57

I'd like two, but on stalks to see above heads and round corners.

z4zie · 23/12/2021 00:00

Two, I love them both. I feel like I would betray them if I choose only one.

Guavagirl · 23/12/2021 00:17

One eye, same as you OP!

Would you rather eat poo or live in a bum?! I think I’d prefer the former.

Bagadverts · 23/12/2021 00:18

Not sure - current eyes, better keep two as my vision in both isn’t great. I’d love one perfect eye as I could drive then, but if I’m going to fall over a lot I’ll have to stick with the two bad ones.

FilterFrog · 23/12/2021 00:46

@HemanOrSheRa I burnt layers of my cornea off my right eye with drain unblocker. It was very painful and even though it became apparent fairly quickly that all would be ok long term, I was very glad to have a spare! I think I spent 2 days in a dark room on tramadol, then another 2 in the same dark room with just regular pain killers and anaesthetic eye drops followed by a month in a eye patch and several more with eye drops. Not an experience I’d like to repeat.
