Would you rather have two eyes or one large one?

I was pondering this morning as I put my mascara on that I’d save a lot of time if I only had one eye like cyclops.

But then I wondered if I actually would since presumably my one eye would be a very big one.

And then I thought that my one big eye would allow me to see much better than my 2 small ones (I’m ridiculously short sighted). So even if it didn’t save me time doing my make up, it would generally serve me better in the being-able-to-see stakes.

Anyway, I didn’t manage to reach a satisfactory conclusion to my pondering so thought I’d seek out other opinions.

Wouldn't peripheral vision be a bit off with one huge eye? God knows I have enough trouble going up and down stairs as it is. Also, after the months long dramarama we've had with DP's right eye after he got drain unblocker in it 🙄, I think two eyes are a safer bet.

TriciaMcMillan · 22/12/2021 19:27

Do they both have to be on the front of my head? Could I move one round to the back and finally see what's going on behind me? I'll need a new hairstyle obviously. Could spark a whole new set of fashion with hair. Boom time for hairdressers, everyone's a winner!

@autumnboys

Two.

I have a 12yo who is constantly asking me these sorts of questions so I shall run it past him as well. Grin

Yes, we need the 12yr old’s opinion here.

Not sure about the eyes, but two mouths would be convenient for carrying on a conversation and eating at the same time.

This thread feels a lot like the ‘would you rather?’ games that my children torture me with. A particular favourite is - would you rather eat poo or live in a bum?

Apologies for lowering the tone. And yes I have a 7 year old boy.

BogRollBOGOF · 22/12/2021 19:31

My right eye is cheaper. My left eye is the one that uses contact lenses. Grin

So it would depend on the prescription...
I use my right eye for distance and my left eye for close up. Saves a fortune on glasses, but does give me an odd squint when reading something in the distance and I wink to focus better.

This has immediately become the most urgent question I have to ask my 8 and 9 year old.
Wendyer · 22/12/2021 19:32

@PenelopeParallelogram would you need a monocle and a contact lens? I suppose you’d need some sort of seeing equipment for when you took your lens out.

Oh I love the idea of one big eye.
Mounted on the top of my head on a swivel please.

I think it would be ok if the one eye was big enough. Your poor Dp, I bet that was really painful. I hope you at least got unblocked drains out of it.

Please can we hear all the responses from any dc who are asked. Although they may not be old enough yet to factor in the makeup dilemma to the equation

Gladioli23 · 22/12/2021 19:42

You know that depth perception is based on having two eyes right? One big eye just couldn't do the same thing I don't think, as you need two separate organs perceiving the same things in different ways and that's what allows depth perception.

FindingMeno · 22/12/2021 19:43

@Gladioli23 stop being so sensible Grin

Wendyer · 22/12/2021 19:45

We’re temporarily suspending sensible @Gladioli23 :) Although speaking for myself, there is not much suspension required …

I think if you need two eyes for depth perception you're probably just not trying hard enough. Honestly, young people today...
CeliaCanth · 22/12/2021 19:55

Two eyes, I think. But I wouldn’t mind them being slightly more on the side of my head so I had a wider field of vision.

What I would really like, though, is a tail, which could be swished vigorously when angry. Yes, you’d have to redesign clothes to accommodate tails but that’s a small price to pay.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 22/12/2021 19:59

I'd quite like one on an extendable stalk on top of my head like a periscope because tall people sit in front of me a lot. Failing that, I'd like an array of eyes for panoramic vision.

JaneJeffer · 22/12/2021 20:07

@hugoagogo Leela didn't look right when she got surgery to have two eyes Grin

AnotherMansCause · 22/12/2021 20:13

Two eyes. One mounted on top of my forehead, like a snail. Retractable & swivelable. The other cunningly hidden in the back of my head. I would use it for spying on people, & scaring the unwary.
Toes like fingers. On all four of my feet.
An angry swishing tail.

2 ears though. In the usual place. I mean, there are standards.

Wizzbangfizz · 22/12/2021 20:14

Humans like symmetry, two.

3luckystars · 22/12/2021 20:18

Two of course! One for a backup if anything happens to one.

I don’t think it would save on eye make up because one big eye would probably need more make up if it was big enough to be able to see as good as two eyes, also I think your eyelashes would be longer and you would need more mascara.

I think it’s interesting that we have eyes on the front of our head only, we should always be looking ahead and not back.

3luckystars · 22/12/2021 20:23

And I would not want anything on a stalk, that is totally dangerous and would easily get injured.

Waftypants · 22/12/2021 20:44

Two eyes, four hands and a Brucey jig for the calories burned. I could eat more crisps with my spare hands then.
Hang on....I've still only got one mouth Confused
