For me, it has to be Robbie Williams.. I feel irate when I hear him on the radio. I will never ever like his voice.

OP posts:

I forget his name, he won some TV show some years back and released a song..
All I can hear is him caterwauling 'impossible, impossible' in an awful toneless way. Makes me shudder he got even a modicum of popularity, truly awful

ButterflyBitch · 21/12/2021 10:46

Sam smith. He just sounds like he’s whining.
The woman who sings dance monkey, don’t know who it is. She doesn’t sound like she’s pronouncing words properly and it irritates me. Then it irritates me more that the song is so catchy.

LookItsMeAgain · 21/12/2021 10:46

Macy Gray

Can't listen to any of her songs

Justin Bieber - won't listen to any of their songs.

Nick Knowles - no thanks.

JohnStonesMissus · 21/12/2021 10:47

@FrankiesCheeseTruckle

Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, Christina Aguilera - all lovely voices when they Sing normally but they have to do the whole histrionics and caterwauling thing which sounds like nails on a blackboard.
Yes and what is it with the stupid up and down hand movements when they warble? They're all guilty of it..so bloody irritating.
TiddlesTheTiger · 21/12/2021 10:50

Kate Bush!!!
Rod Stewart
Lily Allan

Fizbosshoes · 21/12/2021 10:51

Bob Dylan
Tom Waits

My DH likes both. Tom Waits, in particular sounds like some drunken old karaoke singer. Thankfully he isn't played on the radio v much.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 21/12/2021 10:52

Obviously going back a bit now, but Cilla Black's voice was strong, powerful, in-tune.... and yet really horrible.

I always remember a comment on an old Radio 4 comedy-music show where a musical impressionist was introduced as able to sound 'so much like Cilla that even Cilla herself walked in once, heard her and asked "What's that dreadful noise?" ' Grin

Bob Dylan's voice is also truly horrendous. I still can't believe that, in a band that included Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne and George Harrison, there were occasions where it was decided that Bob was the best man to sing the next bit. Brilliant songwriter, but so was Jim Steinman - and Jim, unlike Bob, had quite a decent voice; yet still usually bowed out of the singing in favour of other artists with outstanding voices.

@MrsPeterVenkman

Buddy Clyro is my favourite one so far 😊😊
Fat fingers! Biffy, Biffy!
KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 21/12/2021 10:53

Whoever just reminded me that Macy Grey exists, thanks for that, I can't get her awful grating voice out of my head now 😂

ColonelNobbyNobbs · 21/12/2021 10:54

Kelly Jones.

Sgtmajormummy · 21/12/2021 10:55

Simon LeBon. His straining in “Wild Boys” sends me into a rage.

And Billie Holliday. I used to love her but then pitch-perfect DC pointed out that she slides up to every note. Now she’s lost to me…

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 21/12/2021 10:55

I see that I x-posted with others re Bob Dylan!

OverByYer · 21/12/2021 10:55

Oh and Mariah Carey - shrieky
George Ezra - monotone and boring

maddy68 · 21/12/2021 10:55

Sam Smith. Soooo whiney

AndARiverBeneathYourFeet · 21/12/2021 10:56

There are so many singers that drop their larynx to try and sound more alto/rich and it sounds fucking dreadful. Adele and Paloma Faith both do it. Just sounds forced and stupid.

Pythian · 21/12/2021 10:57

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll oh god, Cilla singing Surprise Surprise every week to close the show... it was bloody awful. I can remember doing impressions of her in the playground with my fellow 6 year olds and saying "No, you need to sound more donkey" to a friend who wasn't quite nailing it.

LandGirlJudy · 21/12/2021 10:58

I also have an intense dislike of Robbie bloody Williams, as I always refer to him as.

Adele
Ed Sheeran
Timmy Mallett

SinisterBumFacedCat · 21/12/2021 11:00

Yes to Sam Smith whining!
Chris Martin- I would like Coldplay much more if they had another singer, when they dueted with Rhiana i loved all her bits!

Enzbear · 21/12/2021 11:01

Adele
Coldplay
Scissor sisters
Lily Allen
Any manufactured girl/boy band
Any singer who takes a good song and turns it to whiny mush eg Born to be wild on an advert last year. Sacrilege.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 21/12/2021 11:01

Macy Gray

Yes, I don't find her voice the most pleasant either. However, I do like that bit in 'Still' where she momentarily turns into a blunt-speaking Yorkshirewoman at a market stall, horrified at the prices and declaring something in a strong local accent as 'much too much' Grin

SinisterBumFacedCat · 21/12/2021 11:01

Ellie Goulding sounds like she is have hiccups whilst whispering.

Longdistance · 21/12/2021 11:04

I agree with Jane McDonald. My guilty pleasure is watching her cruising show, but as soon as she does her cheesy singing I switch over.

SpindleWhirling · 21/12/2021 11:04

Sam Smith is just awful in every possible way.

AndARiverBeneathYourFeet · 21/12/2021 11:04

Any singer that sings in the babyish, breathy "bananis and avocadis" voice (google the phrase and you'll never unhear it)

Ellie Goulding is a bad one for that.

"En' we're gunna let it buwrn buwrn burwn oh"

"wheeyyyyey don't yewww bee the arteeeest and meek meee out of cleeyy"

Mrsblobbyspants · 21/12/2021 11:06

Beyonce! Sometimes she sounds like a warbling sheep. Really grates on me.
