For me, it has to be Robbie Williams.. I feel irate when I hear him on the radio. I will never ever like his voice.

MrsTaytodarling · 23/12/2021 06:58

Mariah Carey. I don't think anything irritates me more than hearing her screeching

Innocenta · 23/12/2021 07:00

Glad to see someone else who can't stand Adam Lambert, @Namechangenumber23

AndARiverBeneathYourFeet · 23/12/2021 09:31

Rod fucking Stewart. Horrible raspy voice. Can't believe people find him sexy, he's like a leather cockatoo.

Katherine Jenkins - learn breath control, learn how to switch between upper and lower register, learn how to sustain a note - learn how to fucking sing basically.

And yes to all pp who said Adam Lambert. Her Majesty Queen Freddie is turning in his grave.

Innocenta · 23/12/2021 09:33

@AndARiverBeneathYourFeet I know there's no accounting for taste, but I still can't get over a couple of people actually naming Freddie himself on this thread. As self deprecating as he was, there's no real denying the man was an icon and one of the most tragic deaths of the 90s.

AndARiverBeneathYourFeet · 23/12/2021 09:38

@Innocenta right?! Even if you don't like the man himself, his voice was stunning

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 23/12/2021 10:45

Deloris O’Riordan - can bear the yelping.

That's a standard element of 'traditional' Irish singing, but I think Dolores' interpretation of it was rather more overwrought than it could/should have been. Done more subtly, the 'tears in your voice' style can sound really beautiful - like Sinead O'Connor in Nothing Compares To You.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 23/12/2021 10:48

I do agree that, if you find Freddie's voice objectionable, you're probably never going to find any singer who meets your 'standards'.

Lifeisforalimitedperiodonly · 23/12/2021 10:53

That bloke Passenger. He sounds like a sumo wrestler who has inhaled helium. Hate his voice.

Also Ellie Goulding who sounds smug.

Chocolatier9 · 23/12/2021 10:56

The first person I heard using 20 notes when one would do was a girl at school. God, she was a conceited so and so. Someone told her she had a nice voice and then she was off, bellowing and screeching day and night. No song was safe, not even hymns.

Ever since then I’ve hated that style of singing. Mariah Carey fills me with unreasonable fury.

CatrinVennastin · 23/12/2021 10:58

@AndARiverBeneathYourFeet “leather cockatoo” 😂😂😂

That is the best description ever of Rod Stewart!!

I hate his voice and his creepy lyrics.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 23/12/2021 11:13

There was a brilliant performance of 'Rhythm Of My Heart' by 'the people of Glasgow' led by Amy MacDonald as part of the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony in 2014. It looked like the ordinary folk were chosen at random on the spot, but interestingly, they only seemed to find people with at least half-decent voices who could all sing in tune!

The big finale was when Rod himself came on the stage at the end and took over. Massive anti-climax for me.

Any warbling female singers, or ones that sound like aliens ( Nicky Minaj) And also, Adele, I can't stand the depressing tone of her voice and songs.

andynarwhal · 23/12/2021 13:10

Mel C.

AffIt · 23/12/2021 14:47

@PrancingQueen

Bjork - aaargh! Especially the mockney accent.

What? You do know Bjork's Icelandic, don't you?

I can understand not liking her singing voice, it's not for everyone, but it's not a 'mockney accent', that's... just her accent.

BogRollBOGOF · 23/12/2021 18:35

Sam Smith's whinging

I think it's Sia who can't articulate any lyrics, but there's quite a crop of really irritating females at the moment who all have a very samey style and I muddle them easily.
I generally don't like Ariana Grande, but catching a bit of the end of the Manchester concert when she sang a duet with Miley Cyrus in a much more natural style, her voice sounded lovely, so I think it is a point of styling and production rather than the actual voice.

MrsMadderRose · 23/12/2021 19:58

I think bjork does have a weird accent that is partly Icelandic and partly London, as she lived there. The Icelandic accent is beautiful IMO but hers is definitely mixed with some London sounds that kind of clash a bit. I don’t think it’s deliberate “mockney” though. (I love her voice and music.)

PrancingQueen · 23/12/2021 20:14

@AffIt Smile yes I know she’s Icelandic!
Didn’t stop her developing a fake cockerney ‘cor blimey mate’ twang to her own accent.
Worse than Madonna when she was with Guy Richie Grin

Anystarinthesky · 23/12/2021 21:45

May I nominate twins? The Proclaimers, I can't stand the 'I would walk 500 miles etc'' song, (I am Scottish by the way).

Adele. I don't know her work but listened to the new song. Awful. Up and down warbles and depressing.

Thirtytimesround · 23/12/2021 21:46

Craig David
Justin Timberlake
