Celebs who are attractive in one role but not others

Watched the Princess Bride with Cary Elwes for the first time today - HOLY SMOKES!!! He is gorgeous in it! I’ve never ever once found him the least bit attractive in anything else he’s been in but crikey I almost swooned when he came on screen with his floppy blonde hair and Zorro outfit 🤤

Who else is only ever attractive in one role?

OP posts:

@ArblemarzipanTFruitcake

Viggo Mortensen - only attractive in LOTR. Completely overlookable with short hair and normal clothes.
So right !
ABitOfAShitShow · 20/12/2021 22:10

Gabriel Macht as Harvey Specter in Suits. It’s him as the character, absolutely not him in real life/other roles.

Notsomerryandbright · 20/12/2021 22:12

This thread was made for Viggo, might have to pencil in time to watch the lotr over christmas now

Palavah · 20/12/2021 22:15

Jon Hamm as Don Draper

@inheritancetrack

Benedict cummberbach in sherlock is gorgeous and edible, but not in anything else.
I agree
DialSquare · 20/12/2021 22:20

@MrsTerryPratchett

The Witcher. According to online, we should invent a phrase like 'cleans up well' for this phenomenon. 'Dirties down well' possibly.

I can't stand Henry Cavill in anything else.

I was just coming on to say the exact same thing. I've just finished series 2 and will now have to go back to series 2 to get my fix!

The Princess Bride is also one of my favourite films OP. I can watch it over and over.

ldontWanna · 20/12/2021 22:22

David Tennant as The Doctor. Massive crush, in everything else just meh.

Hugh Laurie as House.

I actually liked Henry Cavill before it was "cool". Not a fan of his Witcher look but really liked him in White Collar.

It hasn't been on itv2 for at least a fortnight, so odds are it'll be on again by New Year.
LaLaLouella · 20/12/2021 22:23

Daniel Craig, hot AF as James Bond but totally not doing it for me in anything else...

DialSquare · 20/12/2021 22:25

Oh FFS! Go back to series 1 obviously.

Minniem2020 · 20/12/2021 22:26

I also agree with Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby. I saw him on something else recently and he just looked a bit pale and ill looking

Campervan69 · 20/12/2021 22:28

He is smoking in both seasons. I rewatched series 1 in preparation for series 2. We've waited a long time for this. I'm taking series 2 slowly to fully appreciate it.
LittleMysSister · 20/12/2021 22:29

Jon Hamm.

Sexy as Don Draper but seems goofy in everything else.

Ditto Martin Kemp - fit as Steve Owen but in real life doesn't have much charisma when I see him on TV. He seems like a lovely bloke but no sex appeal outside of his looks.

PeaceONoeuf · 20/12/2021 22:31

Brad Pitt in Meet Joe Black otherwise ick

JaninaDuszejko · 20/12/2021 22:35

Agree with Jon Hamm as Don Draper. I didn't recognise him in Bridesmaids, he's obviously a good actor but fuck, how can he be so hot in one role and so obnoxious (deliberately) in another?

Controversial I suspect but Andrew Scott as Lord Merlin. Every other role I just see Ant and Dec merged together and while I loved Fleabag I thought the so-called 'hot priest' was a complete fuck up. Lord Merlin on the other hand is sexy as fuck and genuinely cares about Linda.

  • Definitely Henry Cavill in The Witcher Also Alexander Skarsgaad in True Blood as Eric.*

^this…every day… watched 2 seasons of the Witcher in 3 days…in fairness was also good in tudors but in real life interviews he almost looks too perfect to be attractive if that makes sense.

I got hints of John Travolta from him in episode 7..... let me know if you see it Grin
BlackCatz · 20/12/2021 22:38

@Guttedbuyer

Penn Badgely (is that his name?)

HOT AF in gossip girl but creepy creepy in You.

I still find him attractive in 'You'. Blush Grin
DialSquare · 20/12/2021 22:41

I should have rewatched Series 1 in preparation too Campervan69 but forgot until it was too late so had to watch a 15 minute catch up on YouTube instead.
I said that I was going to limit myself to 1 episode a week for Series 2 but got too greedy!

LadyPerseverance · 20/12/2021 22:41

Henry Cavill and Jonathan Rhys Meyers in The Tudors

Viggo Mortensen in The Lord of the Rings 🥰

Strawberrycremes · 20/12/2021 22:41

Jeffrey Dean Morgan in the walking deadBlush

Notoironing · 20/12/2021 22:42

Agree on Rowan Atkinson.

Strangely attractive in Blackadder II and Blackadder goes forth but not in Blackadder the first or as Mr Bean!
