Celebs who are attractive in one role but not others

Watched the Princess Bride with Cary Elwes for the first time today - HOLY SMOKES!!! He is gorgeous in it! I’ve never ever once found him the least bit attractive in anything else he’s been in but crikey I almost swooned when he came on screen with his floppy blonde hair and Zorro outfit 🤤

Who else is only ever attractive in one role?

OP posts:

@Twiceover

Colin Firth as Mr Darcy.
Absolutely this
Vinotinto78 · 20/12/2021 23:25

Tom Cruise in Rock of Ages. Ok, I’ll get my coat…

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 20/12/2021 23:25

@HalfWomanHalfMincePie

Tom Hiddleston in The Night Manager.

Nothing else. Just that.

You need to watch him in the Donmar Warehouse version of Coriolanus. Leather breastplate. All that. No other roles. Just that one.
ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 20/12/2021 23:28

Daniel Day Lewis in Last of the Mohicans. Phwoar.

Again, early Rick, when he was competent.

But then beardy, wild eyed carrl Rick. I'd be blind with eye rolling.

Theunamedcat · 20/12/2021 23:32

Gary Oldman as sirius black hate him in all other roles

I quite like Jack sparrow I mean he is rather smart grungy and not really too bad just incredibly selfish he saves Elizabeth's life and pretty much all if them at one point

RestingMurderousFace · 20/12/2021 23:33

Jamie Dornan, all kinds of hot playing a serial killer in The Fall.

Wouldn’t touch him with a stolen one in 50 Shades.

Lollypop701 · 20/12/2021 23:33

Orlando bloom but only as an elf, Daniel Craig but only as 007 and Russel Crowe as gladiator. No idea what they have in common as characters or looks? Don’t care just happy ogling I’m afraid

Theunamedcat · 20/12/2021 23:34

Brendon frasure (sp) but only in the mummy 1&2 not really 3 the chemistry was off and definitely not in any other film

RestingMurderousFace · 20/12/2021 23:36

Aiden Gillen as Stuart in Queer as Folk.

MorvaanReed · 20/12/2021 23:37

Adam Baldwin when and only when playing Jayne Cobb in Firefly.

Also agree about Henry Cavil grubbing up nicely.

Molehillfromamountain · 20/12/2021 23:37

Mikael Persbrandt in Sex Education

RestingMurderousFace · 20/12/2021 23:39

Brad Pitt in Thelma and Louise only.

ParishSpinster · 20/12/2021 23:41

Grubby Henry Cavill - yes. Not superman.

David Tennant as Casanova- absolutely.

Richard Madden - only as the DJ in Ibiza.

Hollyhocksarenotmessy · 20/12/2021 23:47

Michael Praed in Robin of Sherwood. Supports the grubby theory, unfortunately, as I can't stand him in his later glam roles.

DeNiro in Cape Fear only, he's ugly in everything else. Grubby and psychotic, oh dear.

Agree with lots of the previous suggestions.

Thirtytimesround · 20/12/2021 23:49

That’s so weird I was doing same thing today OP! Cary is so hot in that film but when I google him I don’t react to him in anything else. I guess it was the character of Westley.

Anyway. A similar one for me was Russell Crowe in Gladiator.

DivanInspiration · 20/12/2021 23:52

Is the (slightly depressing) take away from this that men are sexier when they’re being utter bastards?

I think so. I fancy Brian Cox in Succession but only that. I mean I’m 30 and he’s about 70 with a gut but Logan Roy... Blush

ImprobablePuffin · 20/12/2021 23:56

Tom Hiddleston in Night Manager - Ding Dong!

Tom Hiddleston as Loki - not so much.

ScaredOfOverDiagnosis · 20/12/2021 23:57

Cary Elwes reminds me of Billy Kennedy in neighbours. Karl and Susan's son.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 21/12/2021 00:04

Idris Elba as Luther.

JeffThePilot · 21/12/2021 00:04

I’m the other way round 😂

I do agree with a lot on this thread though. Viggo Mortensen, Russell Crowe in Gladiator (the arms), Henry Cavill as Geralt.

Also I had a big thing about Arnold Vosloo as Imhotep in The Mummy, then I watched him in another movie and he looked like someone’s unfashionable middle aged dad.

I fancy Cillian Murphy in everything though.

dreamingbohemian · 21/12/2021 00:10

@MrsTerryPratchett

The Witcher. According to online, we should invent a phrase like 'cleans up well' for this phenomenon. 'Dirties down well' possibly.

I can't stand Henry Cavill in anything else.

The best example of this is Dirty Jamie Lannister in GoT When he's on the run with Brienne and is all beardy and dirty Not very remarkable otherwise!

Actually a lot of men from GoT could be on this thread as uniquely attractive in that show (imho)

Richard Madden
The guy who plays Tormund
The guy who plays Second Dario
Alfie Allen

dreamingbohemian · 21/12/2021 00:11

@teaandtoastwithmarmite

Idris Elba as Luther.
Heresy! He's gorgeous in everything

Ok maybe not Cats

MyWordWhatAPalava · 21/12/2021 00:14

Orlando Bloom as an Elf in LOTR was phwwwwwoooar.

Everything else (particularly in real life - canoeing with his knob out Envy

WellTidy · 21/12/2021 00:16

Keifer Sutherland as Jack Bauer in 24. I find him really grubby in anything else.
