Looking for inspiration! So far I'm thinking, cheese, nice crisps, and chocolate... Grin

I'm tempted by an individual beef wellington, but it does seem a bit extreme just for me.

Burnamer · 19/12/2021 16:49

I would have some very nice Greek yoghurt, honey and berries followed by pastries for breakfast.
Agree with the cheese, biscuits, fruit and chocolate.
I might add in a party food mix tray thing from m and s and graze on that too.
It would be way too much but I’d love it

A whole baked camabert with crusty bread to dip.

I’m not but if I was I’d like a nice big prawn cocktail and maybe some smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.
Then in the evening a nice selection of different cheese, crackers and maybe some pâté, olives, and nice crisps washed down with a mini bottle of Prosecco and some chocolates.

Do it! I was tempted by a bacon wrapped cod thing - but can't find it in the damn shop. In fact, most of the delicious looking things in supermarket magazines have eluded me in the actual shop!

Got one currently stinking out the fridge, despite being boxed Shock Grin

I’d have a late breakfast of scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and champagne.

Christmas cake mid afternoon

This would keep me going until dinner which would be cheese, crackers, olives, vegetarian antipasti and cocktails.

luverlybubberly · 19/12/2021 17:34

I'd go for party food as I'd probably want to graze rather than sit down and eat "proper" meals

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 19/12/2021 17:50

Definitely have individual beef Wellington.
If I was alone I'd be doing a special order to a posh shop.

I've spent a few Xmas alone but when I had zero money and treat crisps

FanGirlX · 19/12/2021 17:52

I'd have a bacon butty for breakfast and then I'd graze through the rest of the day. Some cheese and pate with nice bread / crackers and I'd also have some seafood (that's an influence from living in Aus). I think you should still treat yourself throughout the day. Maybe a nice box of truffles for tv watching in the evening too?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/12/2021 18:20

I'd have:
warm pastries, nice bread, jams, berries for breakfast/brunch

lunch would be mushrooms on toast

dinner would be cheese and various picky bits followed by mince pies/meringues and cream

Misty9 · 19/12/2021 18:34

Is anyone else actually going to be dining solo on Christmas day...?

OP posts:
pigsinblanketsrule · 19/12/2021 18:39

Not this year, but I have done.

Sausage sandwich for breakfast and something that resembles a proper meal for dinner.

Cook do a Christmas lunch for two, I might do that and have leftovers, or a piece of fillet steak with dauphinoise potatoes and spinach. Small Christmas pudding (or big one with leftovers).

I'm not a huge snacker but I would have a box of champagne truffles and some fizz in the fridge.

dizzygirl1 · 19/12/2021 18:40

I'll be alone from about 3pm Christmas day. And we're not having a roast lunch (teenagers 🙄) and alone all of boxing day. I've just added greek yoghurt to my tesco order thanks to this thread and still deciding in main.

NalPolishRemover · 19/12/2021 18:43

I'm not eating alone but if I was I think I'd do v similar to @pigsinblanketsrule and I'd have a proper dinner & I'd eat it watching a film. I'd order something from a fancy shop or I'd go to M&S & get an individual beef Wellington or something from the cook or bistro range with nice veg
And def champagne- good stuff & some gorgeous chocolates. I'd order enough for 2 days so I'd be all sorted

DartmoorChef · 19/12/2021 18:43

Waitrose seafood platter with warm crusty bread

Yep! I'm supposed to be having a 3 course trad dinner at my Xmas solo escape hotel...

Will be ordering things from tesco if I have to cancel my trip, and probably just eat my own weight in pigs in blankets. Hmm

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 19/12/2021 18:50

I’d have a sausage sandwich for breakfast with brown sauce. Then a walk, then some smoked salmon and champers. I’d be tempted to do a roast chicken for dinner as I never do roasts these days so it would feel special. Roast potatoes! But in the end I’d probably have a really nice steak. With buttered spinach and mash probably. Not really into puddings but I’d probably have some good Brie in case I fancied something later.

I hope you have a lovely day OP!

AlbertBridge · 19/12/2021 18:51

Nothing I could choke on. Having to Heimlich myself over the back of a chair, Liz Lemon style, would put a downer on my day.

The one time I did spend Christmas Day on my own (during the swine flu pandemic), I got shitfaced on a slice of boozy Christmas cake, fell over, smashed my face into the stairs and got a nosebleed.

🎉

nordica · 19/12/2021 18:54

I have ordered M&S Baked Ricotta Stacks and will have it with oven chips and veg. Raspberry Mascarpone roulade for pudding.

I also have party food bits and cheese for Xmas Eve and Boxing day.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 19/12/2021 18:57

OP if you want cod in bacon make it yourself. It’s really easy to do and delicious!

rifling · 19/12/2021 18:59

So envious now! I want a solo escape hotel!

I don't know whether to Shock or Grin reading that! Yes, best you're not alone by the sounds of it! I must admit I hadn't factored avoidance of choking solo into my menu planning Grin

@SeaDreaming ooh, escape hotel sounds blissful and I hope it goes ahead. Whereabouts have you chosen? Is it a specific solos thing?

OP posts:
AdaColeman · 19/12/2021 19:04

I'll be on my own, I'm having

Pastries from the Polish bakery for breakfast.

For lunch ~ Veal steak with sage butter and bitter leaf salad. Followed by Pear Belle Helene.

For Supper ~ Selection of smoked fish, potato salad and Waldorf salad. Probably something like mince pie or Yule log later on.
