Good luck for the coming days silkie and I too am waiting eagerly for the Grand Recliner Review.

In vexing news-

  • I have cocked up the dog meat order which means I have zero space to store it (even without it being Christmas) I have sent a grovelling email throwing myself at their mercy in the hope they will cancel it
  • DM has waltzed off without her Christmas presents. Given we won't see her again I am now faced with posting them to her
  • DH has loads of time off. He will finish next Tuesday then not go back to work till the new year. This is like the start of the script to a murder story
  • I cannot find a Very Important Letter. I can probably get by without it but it cannot be anywhere that I haven't looked. I suspect DH may have been over zealous with the recycling
Silkieschickens · 16/12/2021 02:41

Thanks Champagne and Acorns

I am not sure I will have time to post a recliner review so here is one Kevin made earlier only Kevin just had the boring grey one. Kevin is 6 foot by the way. I was 5 foot 7 2 weeks ago but shrank to 5 foot 5 yesterday according to hospital measurements but fear not I am not losing an inch a week, the first nurse measured with shoes on, the second rammed the thing on my head and made me shorter.

Silkiecat is very proud of herself, for the 3rd time in her 17 years she caught the creature we can't name on here.

Dull news from me - we have a new puppy - he is Harry Houdini - escaped from his crate and luckily I found him drinking water from the Christmas tree container rather than chewing the fairy light wires.
Have also booked him in for his 2nd set of inoculations on Christmas Eve , poor little fellow but then he may be able to go outside.

All best to everyone whatever it is you are doing Flowers

Silkieschickens · 16/12/2021 03:47

That's lovely Basilik though you need to provide a photo Xmas Grin

BasiliskStare · 16/12/2021 04:03

@Silkieschickens I promise you we do not keep puppy in the dark - this was just Dh messing around with phone photo background All best x

We are experiencing the mother and father of a storm here. The whole house is shaking - it's built of wood so it sometimes does this. The LL still hasn't come to remove the AC units so they're rattling too.

I battened the hatches out on the deck earlier in the day, and I'm hoping my big clear plastic tarp won't come loose and flap all the way to Wisconsin. DD4 came home from her job with haystack hair from the gusts.

I made dough for non-pareil cookies but then read the last few bits of the directions and realised it had to be refrigerated and then formed into little balls with floured hands and the little chocolate discs pressed into the top, so I'll bake them tomorrow.

I made an unholy mess clearing space for the Christmas tree, which we're hoping to buy tomorrow. I had to move a good few plants and of course they shed dead leaves, fronds, etc everywhere. I decided to trim one of the big Boston ferns to give new growth a chance to get some light, and discovered a little abandoned bird's nest right in the middle. It was the perfect spot for a nest.

The hi viz men have filled in the hole they dug, and left. I'll see what shape the tree is in next spring, with a good part of its roots gone. Hard to tell right now with the branches bare. It's a birch tree as far as I can tell.

Silkies hope your dye appointment goes well tomorrow. Glad you have a chair.

Sue good news of your DH.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/12/2021 06:24

I love the word "frond".

HelenaJustina · 16/12/2021 06:43

It is pleasing to say Prok my daughter and I have a soft spot for the word ‘plump’ for the same reason - nice mouth feel.

Silkie such a good omen re chair. Will have been a lovely thing for your DH and DD to do together, and to do for you, to feel they are helping/problem solving in some small way

sueelleker · 16/12/2021 08:37

BasiliskStare; he's adorable. Do you know what he is, or is he just a Heinz?
Silkie. Good luck today, and take the pain-killers proactively-my husband has a tendency to wait until it hurts, then they take longer to work.

Nydj · 16/12/2021 08:48

Hope the storm passes without any substantial damage @mathanxiety.

One of the road near us has been resurfaced a couple of weeks ago and is no longer like driving on a very bumpy patchwork quilt. The exciting bit of news is that they have not put back the speed restricting bumps so it is really lovely to drive on the road. All other roads around us have the bumps to slow down cars as we are surrounded by schools. I know they will put the bumps back soon and rightly so but will also admit to driving on that road right now as our car has very poor suspension.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 16/12/2021 10:51

Just here to remind you to water your Christmas trees.

Acornsandleaves · 16/12/2021 12:57

@BasiliskStare he's absolutely gorgeous!

@mathanxiety hope the storm doesn't do any damage

Silkieschickens · 16/12/2021 13:07

Lovely puppy Basilik

Christmas tree watered ZZ

Thanks for the good wishes everyone. DH is being amazing, definitely married the right man, though he is being rather soppy. He said all he wants for Christmas is me for the next 50 years and when the will person asked about him remarrying if I die he said he would never remarry as he could never find anyone else he could love so much.

MissConductUS · 16/12/2021 13:51

Silkie, apologies for mixing up your surgery date. Get lots of rest today. Have they restricted your food intake today?

@BasiliskStare, your pup is adorable.

ZZ, no need, it's artificial. Smile

Math, that storm was on the national news last night. The weather has been rough and it's not even officially winter. It's so warm here today it feels like spring.

Nydj, we had our street resurfaced over the summer and it's lovely. It's probably good for property prices too.

No I can eat normally until 4am and drink water until 10am tomorrow so not bad at all except my morning coffee or tea.

sueelleker · 16/12/2021 15:09

Silkie; usually they say clear liquids are OK, so if you can manage black tea or coffee that should be all right.

Deathraystare · 16/12/2021 16:10

@Silkieschickens

You mentioning 'shrinkage' reminds me of weighing myself in Boots (chemist). The message also included my height. I seemed to have lost height!. The next day I was weighed and my height recorded. I seemed to have gained some height. Of course, I then remembered I was not standing up straight because I was guarding my bags!!

I hope this is not too exciting for people but I have a new tv. My last one would not allow me to view any ITVs or Channel 4/E4 etc.

I tried to get it from Argos or John Lewis but they won't deliver. I am not going clic and collect all the way to South Ken and getting a taxi back which means I have to carry it to my door... So ordered from AO.com.

They rang to say they were outside, then rang back to say it was not on the van! They said they would ring whoever and they'd get back to me. Half an hour later a lady apologised and said it will come tomorrow (today). Half an hour later it arrived in another van. I managed to ring them but the guy said it would probably be too late to stop the order.

I had wanted to ring them because I did not find a stand or remote control in the box. Of course I had not notice it slip out the box!!!!

Then when trying to fix the indoor cable I suddenly realised that it needed a metal thingy which was still on the old tv. So I dumpster dived to get it off the tv despite one kind person putting a very heavy metal object on top of it! I was also sitting on the instruction so had to guess how to set up the tv!!!

It works but the batteries in the remote were not working so could not turn tv off. I tried all the plugs in the room and only found the right plug this morning!

Must remember AAA batteries!

I was already emotional before I read this but now... cries

Thinking of you tomorrow.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 16/12/2021 16:18

Oh BasiliskStare! Now I want a puppy! What a lovely photo.

IWanderedLonely · 16/12/2021 16:40

Best wishes for tomorrow Silkies.
Iam eating a scotch egg for tea before I brave the weekly shop. It is underwheming.

HelenaJustina · 16/12/2021 18:22

I’m about to weekly shop too Iwandered bonne chance to both of us!

BasiliskStare · 16/12/2021 19:11

To all who kindly posted - puppy he is a Border Terrier

In news today he has been jumping at the christmas tree to get at some of the baubles. DH & DS have both gone out so I am on man to man marking this evening. Also he as I type is eating the wrapping off presents - so need to go

Hope others having a quieter and more peaceful day Grin DH's present looking a bit ragged round the corners

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/12/2021 19:12

'Shrinkage' oh yes. I recently learned that I am 4 cm smaller than is written in my ID - which automatically put me at the upper healthy BMI range (which made much more sense mirror-wise).
Tomorrow is my last day at work as we close over Christmas. DS will meet me to carry several star wars space ships and 2 kg of lego space debris home.

They used Le Filou as base for the office Glühwein.
