What is your favourite conspiracy theory?

I love the crazy conspiracy theories. So my favourite ones are that birds arent real and that Paul McCartney is dead and the man we see now is a lookalike.

CW: pretty grim!

Not a favourite but in the mid 90s a friend in the 6th form who’s sibling worked at the BBC told me that there was a rumour that that Jimmy Saville was a necrophiliac who sexually abused the kids he was supposedly raising money to support. I told them not to be so ridiculous and that If that was true he’d have been investigated and would be in prison.

It seems nearly everyone in the BBC knew about Saville... certainly people in Leeds knew. A boyfriend of mine from there said it was an open secret and he told me that Savile was known as a “ dirty old man” to be avoided, and that was over 30 years ago.

Flat earthers for one but the added conspiracy that it was all started as a test to see how gullible people were to see how much false information the general public is willing accept, for future misinformation to cover up other stuff ,🤣 Which realistically I can believe haha

@Rhannion yeah, I studied in Leeds and a friend who worked in a restaurant that he frequented said the female staff were just expected to put up with him groping them.

I remember being in the Flying Pizza once and he was walking from table to table asking if people wanted a photo with him. No one did.

What I don't understand is how angry people get about others quite rationally questioning things that don't add up, and seeing it as a slight on the victims.

Asking questions about WTC building 7, for example, doesn't negate the fact that thousands of people died. It just shifts the responsibility.

BalboaCoffee . Yes the same here ! 2 people I know do believe Toothpaste is poison ,and also has a ingriedant to make us more susceptible to Government Control.Brings a new meaning to "Ring of confidence" Sadly both have tooth decay issues .

That Michel Obama is a man. Saw that on channel 4s Qanon documentary had me in stitches 🤣 one of the reasons given was that she had an Adams apple and was better hung than the man accusing her of this🤣🤣

My friend and her family truly believe in most of these conspiracies. It's all they talk about!
Her son even told my ASD son (both are 7) not to eat KFC as it contains human meat. He was really distressed and now can't accept anything else!

Surely chicken meat is cheaper than human meat Confused why would anyone believe that! I'm sorry your son was upset by it, that's awful.

CiAo forDinosaur I think there was a film ,maybe or an idea bandied around the early 50s that the CIA had managed to kill thousands of birds and replace them with Battery run ones ! Quite strange .We have friends who believe Covid is a hoax and wont budge .(Our friend in her 40s died of it No they still dont think so !

Well this bit of it is bollocks for a start.

Its a toss up as to where Diana is now, although I have seen Uruguay suggested.

This fits, as I have always thought it strange that although Uruguay is apparently a very beautiful country and according to Wikipedia the most prosperous, safe and stable in South America, I have never heard of guided tours or any tourism to that country, all emphasis seems to be put on Argentina / Brazil or Chile/Peru as places to visit.

I’ve been to Uruguay as part of a South American holiday. It’s not a closed country.

i) that 9/11 was caused by holograms of jets smashing into the Twin Towers and that they were actually demolished by bombs (that were fitted during construction) being detonated

ii) that Adolf Hitler's father was the product of a liaison between a (Jewish) businessman and Hitler's paternal grandmother who worked as a domestic at his house, and that his hatred of Jews was in part driven by this (and his failure to get into art college)

iii) the "empty internet" theory (that 95% of liaisons are bots responding to the few 'real' people out there)

iv) AIDS was a bioengineered virus manufactured to wipe out the black and gay community

v) that the world started in 4004BC and that dinosaur fossils are put there by God to "test our faith"

There are a couple I actually believe in - that Lee Harvey Oswald was not responsible for killing JFK, and that "Rudolf Hess" in the prison in Spandau was not the "real" Rudolf Hess, but that's for a different thread.
