I love the crazy conspiracy theories. So my favourite ones are that birds arent real and that Paul McCartney is dead and the man we see now is a lookalike.
What about you?

The one about the queen being a lizard. It’s so ridiculous I just love it. The idea of her lounging in her palace all reptilian and green Grin

theDudesmummy · 07/12/2021 12:20

@ErrolTheDragon what do you mean by brane not brain?

Cattenberg · 07/12/2021 12:20

@Shamoo

That Australia doesn’t exist and all Australians are actors. 😂
To be fair, I have wondered if the Aussies have an equivalent of national service in which all young people are called up to serve a stint on either Neighbours or Home and Away. Naturally, many of these young people can’t act, but no one seems to mind.
ProfessionalWeirdo · 07/12/2021 12:23

What a great thread!

I once heard it said that one of the most compelling arguments in support of the "Paul McCartney is Dead" theory is that never in a million years would the real Macca have produced such rubbish as "The Frog Chorus" or "Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time."

Kanfuzed123 · 07/12/2021 12:26

@thestarvingcaterpillar

I used to go out with someone who didn't believe in dinosaurs or in fact in anything before he was born - he literally thought that the world began when he was born and would end when he died. I never really managed to get my head around it and still can't now. Not exactly a conspiracy theory but I'm sure he isn't the only person out there who thinks like this!
@thestarvingcaterpillar this is my fave conspiracy theory! It’s a big movement in the states ‘Christians against dinosaurs’
diddl · 07/12/2021 12:28

@Leftbutcameback

Just looked up the Simon Dorante-Day story and was briefly interested until It turned out he's only 16 years younger than Charles, who is clearly not his father!!
That doesn't make it impossible of course-although I think Charles was still at Gordonstoun then & did he even know Camilla before he left school?
mrsjg · 07/12/2021 12:28

Place marking

thestarvingcaterpillar · 07/12/2021 12:34

@Kanfuzed123 Nooooo I knew they'd be more like him out there!!! He was adamant that dinosaur bones were "planted" to fool us - I never did quite work out what he thought they were if they weren't
dinosaur bones!

thenightsky · 07/12/2021 12:41

@HectorPlasm

Ooh - and the disappearance of Shergar!
That one was solved. It was the IRA and a blackmailed or bribed groom at the stables. The horse died pretty quickly after the event I think. Someone in the gang or the groom fessed up a few years ago.
poorbuthappy · 07/12/2021 12:42

@Corneliusmurphy

We switched into a different timeline (multiverse?) when they switched on the large hadron collider in 2008 and that’s why we have the Mandela effect - people remember the ‘old’ timeline.
This must be my favourite ever!
ILoveHuskies · 07/12/2021 12:43

@MsInsomniac

Jim Morrison faked his own death and came back as Barry manilow
This one wins 😂😂😩
DaisyDreaming · 07/12/2021 12:49

That the tube crash wasn’t a suicidal driver and the failings were covered up and blamed on the driver is one I semi believe in. Everything I’ve read points to that but I acknowledge it might just be what I’ve read.

I love the current one that being told to wear masks again is a test. If we wear masks it will show the government they can get away with a lockdown so we must resist masks or we will end in lockdown. I’m not sure why people think the government and the rich want lockdowns. I’m sure share holders in some companies (like ppe producers, vaccine producers) but most rich people lost a lot of money in the pandemic

theDudesmummy · 07/12/2021 12:51

Oh I love a mention of the Mandela effect, the most batshit one ever! It makes no sense no matter how you look at it! Why would only people outside South Africa have memories of an "alternative timeline"?

theDudesmummy · 07/12/2021 12:52

I love the Frog Chorus (missing the point)

ponkydonkey · 07/12/2021 12:52

I saw a sign on a van yesterday saying

"Pigeons are liars"

Which really made me laugh

boobot1 · 07/12/2021 12:59

@Wfhquery

The pandemic is a hoax so that they can get us to stay inside so they can change the batteries in the pigeons. The pigeons are actually battery operated spies
This is the best one
BoredZelda · 07/12/2021 13:03

That the CIA wrote the Scorpions song "Wind of Change" as part of their propaganda campaign to bring down the USSR. I do think it's very plausible, and I lean towards believing it

@Planesmistakenforstars, there is a brilliant podcast from Crooked Media on this one. Have you heard it? It draws no conclusion but takes you through the yeah/no of it all.

My feeling about conspiracies is that it's quite hard to organise a lot of people to do something fake, but relatively easy to make people keep quiet about something that has been done. So faking the moon landings, for instance, would have required recruiting a huge number of scientists and other specialists who were genuinely passionate about their jobs and persuading them to essentially make a film instead of doing their actual job. But saying that new opiates weren't addictive and forcing people who knew differently to stay quiet was pretty straightforward with the promise of bonuses or confidentiality clauses and the risk of being bankrupted by court cases if they told anyone.

Werehamster · 07/12/2021 13:06

I remember when a former judge slammed the families of those who died at Hillsborough for not acting with dignity and chasing conspiracy theories. I'm really glad they did keep chasing for the truth about what actually happened that day.

BoredZelda · 07/12/2021 13:06

Very good.

I always thought those soaps only existed to feed artists to stock aitken and waterman.

Same story, new character turns up and lo and behold they are an excellent singer…..

I think the difference with hillsborough and actual conspiracy theories was that the actual evidence was practically irrefutable and it was the response from the authorities that couldn’t be shown to be based on anything factual. With conspiracy theories it’s usually the other way round.

lonelyapple · 07/12/2021 13:10

"Dead internet" theory.

Itsalmostanaccessory · 07/12/2021 13:11

@theDudesmummy

The Mandela effect has nothing to do with whether or not people live outside South Africa. It's nothing to do with South Africs specifically at all.

MissConductUS · 07/12/2021 13:11

@RestingMurderousFace

If the moon landing was true, why has it never been done again?
We did it six times.

theDudesmummy · 07/12/2021 13:13

@Itsalmostanaccessory what I am saying is that no South African would ever "remember" Mandela dying in jail.
