I love the crazy conspiracy theories. So my favourite ones are that birds arent real and that Paul McCartney is dead and the man we see now is a lookalike.
What about you?

The cancer ones really really annoy me. First, this theory that treatments are more profitable than cures.... well, that might be true in the long term, but in the short term (which is usually the single biggest complaint the broader medical community has with the pharmaceutical community ie that they think short term because of share prices and end of year bonuses) a cure would be INSANELY profitable because there are millions and millions of people with cancer and they would all probably sell their own left arms if it meant a cure.

It also 100% suggests that there are thousands, or even hundreds of thousands of doctors and scientists who are actively keeping this secret and allowing people to die. And notwithstanding the most hardcore conspiracy theorist book or movie, I don't buy that for a single second.

The Michelle Obama trans one is so racist. It is, in one simple little example, the clearest way to demonstrate how black women are discriminated against in multiple ways, simultaneously.

I don't know if this one has gone out of fashion but have you heard about Planet Niburu?

This is apparently a rogue planet which passes by the earth every 5000 years or so and causes all kinds of natural disasters when it enters our orbit.

It was supposed to pass earth about 5 or 10 years ago but mysteriously has not yet arrived. When I asked about this I was told that it wasn't possible to be completely accurate!

There is an elderly American lady called Nancy who has a hotline to aliens and they give her information on Niburu and other world events.

There's talk of the Kray twins holding gay orgies where celebrities, MPs and Lords attended. Apparently Cliff Richard was a rent boy called Kitty

Planesmistakenforstars · 07/12/2021 11:14

That the CIA wrote the Scorpions song "Wind of Change" as part of their propaganda campaign to bring down the USSR. I do think it's very plausible, and I lean towards believing it

JudgeJ · 07/12/2021 11:14

@Libertaire

The ‘faked’ moon landings theory.

It’s a sort of back-handed tribute to the incredible engineers, scientists & pilots who, without the aid of computers took WW II missile technology and developed it into a system which took humans to another world then brought them home safely that so many people born decades afterwards simply cannot believe they actually did it.

I remember the first time I went to Cape Canaveral I attended a talk by a retired astronaut. He said that by the late 1960s NASA were reasonably confident that they could put humans on the moon, but bringing them back alive was a completely different matter, and nobody really knew if it would work until it did. The crews were incredibly brave men.

The missile technology had been tested extensively, over London, with the V2 bombs towards the end of WW2, the Americans were pleased to forgive the Nazi scientists involved and give them a new life in the US.
LaBellaTrix · 07/12/2021 11:14

Louis Tomlinson (former member of One Direction) had a pretend baby with an American woman, so that people would stop believing that he and Harry Styles (former member of One Direction) were truly, madly, deeply in love and secretly married. The fake child is now about 6 and the conspiracy theorists now accept he is a real child but one that has undergone extreme cosmetic surgery, to explain away the fact the little boy looks very much like his dad.

I find the Benedict Cumberbatch fans scary, the ones who believe his wife is a people trafficking, drug smuggling, satan worshipping prostitute, who blackmailed Ben into marrying her. Oh and their kids are fake too.

Then there are the people who believe the Twilight couple, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are secretly married with half a dozen children who have never been seen.

That quarantine camps have been built in Australia that are mainly concrete and metal fences, no greenery and people are being placed in them against their will and offered valium to cope with the experience, when they all if they can go for a run to calm their anxiety Grin

WheresTheLambSauce · 07/12/2021 11:15

The world used to contain absolutely massive trees, but something cut them down and now what we think of as rock formations are actually the stumps... So Ayers Rock actually used to be Ayers Tree. Grin

Rivermonsters · 07/12/2021 11:15

@Stuckhere2021 your BIL has some sort of a point. Hillary Clinton is an evil witch who has lots of secrets to hide

HectorPlasm · 07/12/2021 11:15

On the moon landings one - I don't believe they were faked given the fact that they left mirrors behind but they need to be viewed through the lens of the cold war. The USA could conceivably have considered faking it given the shock of Sputnik and their perceived need to win the next part of the space race. However, the USSR would have done their best to expose it because of the same cold war lens. So on balance, they are real - but I bet they considered it!

@raviolo what's the Flixborough one?

sashh · 07/12/2021 11:20

@Pyewackect

That the DofE gave instructions to MI6 to bump Diana Spencer off. And I’ve met ppl who actually believe it. That and governments are using the covid vaccination to inject v small tracking devices into the population.
I don't think this is true, but what I do find odd is that when they eventually held an inquest the verdict was Unlawful killing'.

The Titanic / Olympic is quite compelling if you ignore the fact the Olympic had been crossing the Atlantic for several months while Titanic was completed, oh and the Olympic went to pick up survivors, but received messages that all survivors were on the Carpathia.

One that gets me that isn't a conspiracy, but I think it should be is Lee Harvey Oswald. The US secret services/CIA/FBI anyone else said he wasn't, 'of interest'. But he should have been. Not much was known about life in the Soviet Union so surely he, and his wife could be useful?

And also Pearl Harbour.

The US has always claimed it was an unprovoked attack. The USA had just stopped supplying fuel to Japan, what did the government think it would do?

JudgeJ · 07/12/2021 11:20

@Viviennemary

Moon landings didn't happen. They didn't. Footage totally faked.
The flag fluttering in a wind-free environment was because it was on a sprung arm, hence it vibrated and caused the fluttering. The main reason for not buying into the fake theory is that there's no way America could keep it so secret for so long!
MissConductUS · 07/12/2021 11:21

@AliceA2021

9/11 was an inside job. There were no terrorists and the planes were purposely launched into the buildings and then the building destroyed so the US could start a war.

That is batshit crazy

Thank you. As a New Yorker who witnessed the attack and lived through the aftermath I find the "9/11 was an inside job" rubbish particularly offensive. It's also been completely debunked, but some idiots can't let it go.
WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 07/12/2021 11:22

The Titanic one: I don't know about the potential switching of the ships, but there were apparently some very rich and powerful passengers who died on the Titanic who were strongly opposed to the establishing of the Federal Reserve - which was then brought in the following year.

Money itself isn't what most people assume it is - fractional reserve banking and the fact that, when you take out a mortgage, you aren't borrowing existing money but your borrowing it causes that money to come into existence.

Rivermonsters · 07/12/2021 11:23

@AliceA2021 why would bush plan 9/11? Sounds so ridiculous and offensive

LetHimHaveIt · 07/12/2021 11:27

The idea that 9/11 was an inside job is - of course - a load of bollocks, but the rationale isn't completely out there. It was often said that the CIA created very small 'terrorist' incidents throughout the 70s, 80s and 90s, in order to scare money out of Congress - 'fundraisers', if you will. I don't believe that either, fwiw, but you can see how it might work.

Buzzinwithbez · 07/12/2021 11:27

That's pharmaceutical companies always have our best interests at heart and if an honest mistake in made, it would be rectified as soon as known to be dangerous.

There are very serious philosophers who believe that it is much more likely that we are living in a simulation than we are not. Listen to The Infinite Monkey Cage episode called Are We Living in a Simulation?

Christians against dinosaurs by far. ‘Big paleo’ has planted the fossils to cast dispersions on creationism and to push evolution. Another scoop of thought is that the fossils found as ‘demons’

That Shakespeare didn’t write Shakespeare ( most likely candidates being Sir Francis Bacon or the Earl of Oxford). Which I think is in part true, I think the first folio was used for some non-literally purposes with some adaptations.
