Do you have the heating on overnight?

It’s 9 c in the house at the moment. We haven’t got the heating on, do have a heated blanket and wool duvet.

Sometimes wonder if it would be nice to not have a cold nose…?

No the couple of times I thought I turned it off and I didn’t I wake up feeling ill, I don’t use heated blankets either

spotcheck · 04/12/2021 22:21

Well, can you set it to a slightly higher temperature at night- Just so it kicks in now and again?

FourTeaFallOut · 04/12/2021 22:21

If it fell below 16c it would but that rarely happens.

LSLLM · 04/12/2021 22:22

Not overnight , my house was like this the other week simply because the boiler settings were a bit off. It might be worth considering closing the doors in the house during the day, and ensuring the seals on the windows are ok, to try and keep heat in.

Bluntness100 · 04/12/2021 22:23

9c would be unbearable for me. I leave the heating on low to answer the question. Do you not have your heating on due to cost?

3WildOnes · 04/12/2021 22:23

I turn it down to 15 overnight. I never actually turn my heating off.

Comedycook · 04/12/2021 22:24

No...on cold nights we keep it on until dh and I go to bed then turn it off

LittleBirdy1 · 04/12/2021 22:24

9c that is ridiculous cold, how are you even comfortable in that temperature? Our heating is set at 22 is on from the time we wake up until bedtime. We do however live in a well insulated new build so over night it only drops 1c or so and the thermostat doesn’t click on that often.

BonnyBoy · 04/12/2021 22:24

Surely it's not 9c inside? It's only just lower than that outside??

MarmitesMyMate · 04/12/2021 22:24

Yes. On 20. But upstairs is so much colder than down so when thermostat clicks off its still chillier upstairs.

If the kids come down and it's cold they don't motivate and whinge.. So makes life easier. Plus one of the dcs struggles with chest so like to keep it warm.

Scarby9 · 04/12/2021 22:24

No.
But then I don't think my house often, if ever, drops to 9 degrees.

purpleme12 · 04/12/2021 22:25

no
my house has been down to that temperature before - at times even lower.
but funnily enough i'm ok in bed at night, never cold. (15 tog duvet and if i feel like it i have a hot water bottle)
so no it never goes on at night

Quornflakegirl · 04/12/2021 22:25

Ours goes off at 9, the house would be boiling if it stayed on later than that.

AncienneEtudiante · 04/12/2021 22:25

No, but I do put it on at about 8.30pm to 9pm. Then it's still warm when I get into bed.

We're in the south east now, but don't think we had the heating on overnight even when we lived in Aberdeen.

Justcannotbearsed · 04/12/2021 22:26

It’s not cost no, but just seems wasteful to be heating the house when asleep. But I’m wondering if it’s more normal to have it on something like 16. It’s a new house and old, previous house didn’t seem to get so cold at night.

If it wa# freezing outside it would kick in.

tearinghairout · 04/12/2021 22:26

No, we did when our babies were tiny bc they were prem but I hated it. It feels stuffy. I have the bedroom window open too! (If my head gets cold I drape t-shirt over it - sexy!). Haven't got the electric blanket on yet but I will soon. Given the choice, DH probably would keep the heating on all night though.

Sparklingbrook · 04/12/2021 22:26

We turn ours off when we go to bed and it comes on about 5am. But we sleep with the bedroom window open all year round.

Phrenologistsfinger · 04/12/2021 22:27

No way! We turned off the radiator in our bedroom and keep the window open all year round unless extreme minus cold. Nothing nicer than being toasty in bed in a cool room!

Justcannotbearsed · 04/12/2021 22:27

We’ve had woodburner on all evening so been toasty warm downstairs.

OP posts:
prediction500 · 04/12/2021 22:28

Yes but reduce the thermostat to 17 degrees

Justgivemewine · 04/12/2021 22:28

We turn it down but not off.
Agree with pp, 9 would be too cold for me.

daisypond · 04/12/2021 22:30

No. We have the heating on for half an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening. We wouldn’t have it on all day or all evening, and definitely never at night.

Terminallysleepdeprived · 04/12/2021 22:30

Mine is set to come on if it drops below 14. My dd suffers heat induced urticaria and so I tend to keep the house cooler. It very rarely goes about 18.

But there is also a cost element, Drives dp mad. I don't see the point in wasting money when we can use blankets if it gets too cold.

User2638483 · 04/12/2021 22:31

No but I think it’s on til 10pm so no way would it drop to 9 deg by 10.30. When does yours go off? Must be pretty early or you have very poor insulation

Cattipuss · 04/12/2021 22:33

@TurnUpTurnip

No the couple of times I thought I turned it off and I didn’t I wake up feeling ill, I don’t use heated blankets either
I find heating affects me too, a bowl of water near it helps.

Sometimes leave the heating on in DS' room if its really cold, but off in other rooms then I pop it back on in the morning. We have a few duvets/blankets etc to get nice and cozy in bed.
