Do you have the heating on overnight?

It’s 9 c in the house at the moment. We haven’t got the heating on, do have a heated blanket and wool duvet.

Sometimes wonder if it would be nice to not have a cold nose…?

No. The heating is on a timer and comes on at about 6.30am. It goes off quite late though, so it's never very cold.

123Suprise · 04/12/2021 23:05

@MarmitesMyMate

Yes. On 20. But upstairs is so much colder than down so when thermostat clicks off its still chillier upstairs.

If the kids come down and it's cold they don't motivate and whinge.. So makes life easier. Plus one of the dcs struggles with chest so like to keep it warm.

I hear what you are saying about a child with chest issues and it needing to be warm but 20 deg at night?!

I really feel the cold and wouldn't even have mine on 20 degrees in the day / evening time. 17 /18 max

Even at temp it's way too much if I have rare sleep in and heating goes on early. that I have my window open and radiator off in my room !

SophieHatterPendragon · 04/12/2021 23:06

No way. I dislike having the heating on at all triggers my migraines but obviously have DH and the kids to consider Xmas Grin so ours is set to come on at 15 although I insist the radio is off in our bedroom

nordica · 04/12/2021 23:06

Thermostat set to 15C and that means heating doesn't come on much at all overnight, even when it's really cold outside.

DappledThings · 04/12/2021 23:06

I have turned to 9 at night. Not that it ever gets that cold, it was just a number plucked out of the air as low enough to make sure it never comes on at night.

It's been off since 8 and is 17.5 now which is a nice temp to go to bed. Would always prefer to be too cold rather than too hot in bed.

Charlize43 · 04/12/2021 23:07

Turn the thermostat down to 15 when going to bed. I like to sleep with the bedroom window slightly open at night, even in winter. Does anyone else do that?

IVFdreams2021 · 04/12/2021 23:10

No. Sets my eczema off if it's on at night. Also sleep with the little window open all year round!

TheOneWithTwoParties · 04/12/2021 23:12

I hate sleeping with the heating on, I wake up feeling awful. I’m not sure what the thermostat is set on overnight, I do keep it set to 19/20 until about now as we stay up late and don’t want to be cold before bed. The radiators aren’t currently on though so it’s obviously not that cold at the moment.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 04/12/2021 23:13

Thermostat set to13 overnight, it does get to this regularly atm so kicks in.

Timeisavirtue · 04/12/2021 23:13

Nope, we all wake up with sore throats. Not had the heating at night s8nce I was about 6. I think it’s better to go to bed cold and warm up, such a better feeling. Yes I know it’s strange but it’s how I prefer it...

PiesNotGuys · 04/12/2021 23:18

Mine comes on at 5 degrees if it drops lower than that overnight. Which means it never does as the thermostat is downstairs which is warmer than upstairs.

When the dc were babies we didn’t have central heating in the house, we only had a gas fire in the living room. We used to put off going to bed, it was really cold and the pipes would freeze.

Titsywoo · 04/12/2021 23:21

No but my house never drops below 16. You should really sleep in a cool room as your body temp needs to drop to sleep but 9 is crazy so I would have the heating on for that! Do you have single glazed windows and no insulation or something?

AliceMck · 04/12/2021 23:24

No but when it gets really cold we will set it to come on for an hour in the early hours especially when it’s below freezing.

readwhatiactuallysay · 04/12/2021 23:25

Ours is left at 19/20 overnight as upstairs gets cold.

We have our bedroom radiator off but i dont like our DS room being cold.

BettyfromBristol · 04/12/2021 23:25

No heating on from 10 pm here, we like to sleep in a cool bedroom and always have the windows open, even when it id below zero. Warm pj's and a thick duvet though.

Floralnomad · 04/12/2021 23:26

Thermostat is set at 16 overnight but it rarely comes on .

ufucoffee · 04/12/2021 23:29

No. Never.

puffylovett · 04/12/2021 23:31

I find 9-10 degrees quite comfortable, I just stick slippers and jumpers on! Can’t stand the hearing being on at night and would have the window open if it wasn’t a bloody tilt and turn that’s either wide open or not at all Hmm
Despite being Victorian our house seems to retain heat well.

123Suprise · 04/12/2021 23:41

@Charlize43

Me. I always have window open and no radiators on ever in my room. Then go for warm duvet, weight blanket which is new fab addition. And hot water bottle. Much much better than a hot room.
NotMyCat · 04/12/2021 23:42

@Terminallysleepdeprived

Mine is set to come on if it drops below 14. My dd suffers heat induced urticaria and so I tend to keep the house cooler. It very rarely goes about 18.

But there is also a cost element, Drives dp mad. I don't see the point in wasting money when we can use blankets if it gets too cold.

Same, mine is induced by change of temp and also developed spontaneous urticaria now thanks body
LibbyL92 · 04/12/2021 23:44

Never! I sleep with the window open (slightly) it’s open now. It’s cold but snuggled under my duvet it’s my favourite feeling

LuluBlakey1 · 04/12/2021 23:46

No.

PinkWednesdays · 04/12/2021 23:49

We have an oil radiator (one of those plug in ones) that we use in our room overnight, and keep it set at 21 degrees. But we don’t have the heating as a whole on overnight.

Platax · 04/12/2021 23:50

No. Once or twice I've left it on accidentally and woken up feeling very hot and sweaty.

If it's too cold for just a duvet I tend to wear a T shirt under my PJ top and put layers on over the duvet; very occasionally I have a hot water bottle for my feet, but it needs to be really cold for that. I find the feeling of being warm and snuggled up under the duvet when it's cold outside makes me feel really cosy and helps me get to sleep quickly.

violetskiss · 04/12/2021 23:53

I think it’s so unhealthy to have the heating on overnight! It just makes me think of visiting old people’s houses in the winter when you wake up absolutely boiling - just dreadful!
