What on earth are schoolchildren doing carrying knives when out with their friends? I despair.

We've got to do something about all these knives. How many more kids have to die before something is done?

There are quite a few knife amnesty's going in in various local areas to this and they have had a good response. But it's not enough.

Poor girl. Nobody deserves this, but most definitely not a young girl with her life ahead of her.

We have teenage boys in the country willing to murder children. I'm not sure removing the knives alone will sort the issue.

Poor girl, and her family. I live in London and I'm thankful every time my kids get home safely. Its a real threat on the streets.

What does this mean ? Are you saying kids from Toxteth are more likely to be violent? Or are you being racist as it's a more diverse area?

She is just a child! This is so terrible. Here is Manchester I still see soft penalties for kids carrying knives. The boy who stabbed Yousef Makki to death was carrying a knife as was his friend and even though it culminated in murder, their sentences were tiny. What happened to ‘tough on crime’?

Surprised that this is not being covered as a main news story. Only heard about it on local news here.
Would also like to know what is meant by the Toxteth comment.

GNR - that’s quite a leap to it being a racist comment. I presume (hope) that the poster was referring to Toxteth being a notorious area for high crime rates. Agree tarring everyone from there with the same brush is lazy stereotyping though.

Exactly. The kids who really want to carry knives will. They're not exactly hard to find.

I've just been to Finland, where giving kids knives as gifts is NORMAL, because it's part of the outdoorsy culture.

Something far, far bigger than a knife amnesty would need to happen to fix Britain's knife culture.

Poor little girl, that is absolutely devastating. There needs to be much longer sentances for those convicted of knife crime and strong penalties for those carrying knives. There should be a deterrant from carrying knives.

I shamefully forgot the most important thing which was to say that my thoughts are with her family who must be going through a living hell.

They should be sent to prison to do hard time for LIFE!

Soft sentences and a cushy life in prison probably awaits them. That's no bloody deterrent.

What the hell is going on and why are kids so young carrying knives.
