No words for the state of knife crime in our nation

Why are 12/13 year olds out in the city centre (or anywhere) after 8pm in the winter evening? Is this normal? I don't have kids that age yet but I think that's a little late.

It's such a tragedy and just very frightening how violent some kids seem to be these days. Not a punch up or slap, but knives! How on earth are they so desensitized to such violence?!

MrsDThomas · 26/11/2021 10:27

Ive just read this. Boils my piss😡 there are some really skanky kids y dragged up by people who dont care where their offsprings are. Fucking vile.

I have a 14 year old son. Make a point if knowing who your kids are with. Take control.

Poor girl. My heart is with her family.

notawittyname1954 · 26/11/2021 10:28

Devastating. What on earth were these boys thinking. Poor girl and her family who somehow have to come to terms with it somehow.

zoemum2006 · 26/11/2021 10:30

@HumunaHey

My children are 11 and 15 and there is zero way they'd be out so late on a freezing, dark school night.

Those boys seem utterly feral though. They desperately needed more parenting.

PronounssheRa · 26/11/2021 10:31

It was the Christmas lights switch on.

Jabbawasarollingstone · 26/11/2021 10:32

When DD was in Y8, a boy from a nearby school (S London) was stabbed on the way home. DD and her mates had to be diverted by police away from the scene (a busy road). I have "active shooter" and "knife incident" training through work so I've adapted that advice for her. When I was 13 I didn't have this shit to think about. Now I'm advising my daughter to Run/Hide/Tell. Wtf?

Cheshirewife · 26/11/2021 10:33

Utterly dreadful. Hard to even contemplate the circumstances in which young children are allowed out freely in a city at night and able to carry knives.

Double3xposure · 26/11/2021 10:40

Let’s not blame the victim or her parents. She was in a busy part of the city centre with a group of friends, presumably to see the Christmas lights switched on.

She did nothing wrong. Her parents did nothing wrong. The police advise women and girls to stay in busy places and stay in groups. These girls did as they were advised by all the experts.

WAWG is not the fault of women and girls.

unfortunateevents · 26/11/2021 10:41

Surprised that this is not being covered as a main news story. Only heard about it on local news here - it absolutely is being covered though. I heard it being mentioned twice in about a 30 min period on the BBD breakfast news this morning (national not regional) and it is on the home page of BBC News as well. Shocking that this can happen in what seems to have been a crowded Christmas city centre.

@Alakazam8

Surprised that this is not being covered as a main news story. Only heard about it on local news here. Would also like to know what is meant by the Toxteth comment.
It was on Absolute Radio news this morning. I thought I had misheard what had happened.
Alakazam8 · 26/11/2021 10:47

I wasn’t aware of it being on BBC sorry, no mention on ITV this morning.
Know exactly where this is, very close to where the lights were being switched on. Wouldn’t let my 12 year old have gone but lots of parents would and we don’t know the age of friends she was with. Please don’t place any blame on victim or family…

Crumblinginside · 26/11/2021 10:50

Rest in Peace Ava
Just heartbreaking Flowers

Seeing the Christmas lights switched on is not really a good reason for those of a young age to be out unaccompanied at night IMO. In any case, those who murdered her were the same age, so the same applies.

Genuinely no emphasis on blaming the victim. I was actually thinking about the chaos that ensued due to ALL those children being out.

I also think these conversations do need to happen around parenting as it may prevent such tragedies in the future. Do you let your kids out at night? Do you really know what they're up to? Are they easily influenced? It's no use brushing things under the carpet.

TyrannysaurusXXrightshoarder · 26/11/2021 11:11

We have teenage boys in the country willing to murder children. I'm not sure removing the knives alone will sort the issue
Yes, what is driving this breakdown in society that means that stabbing and murdering someone is an acceptable thing to do according to some people, and particularly young people. What is going wrong and when? And I don’t think it’s about the deterrent of extreme punishment being lacking - I don’t go around not stabbing people because of the threat of life in prison, I don’t stab people because the very idea is abhorrent to me. As is violence in any form, against another human being. I like to think that is the case for the vast majority of people. But not all clearly, so what’s going wrong? Is it gang culture, a rise in gang culture? If it is, why? Is it poor education and poverty playing a part, it can’t solely be that though. When did life become so cheap and worthless to some?

The whole of society is violent and used to violence thanks to it being glorified on TV and video games. This is where the changes need to happen to see changes in society.

Isthatthebestyoucando · 26/11/2021 11:22

Where is everyone getting that this is a knife crime? I'm just seeing catastrophic injuries. Either way it's sick and I'm so sick of these ribbon days where people get to pay lip service to a problem for social media likes, these stupid events do not change culture.

Foolsrule · 26/11/2021 11:24

Agree with @MrsDThomas - some people are just feral. Poverty or no poverty, you simply don’t murder a 12 year old child!

Just such an awful incident, poor Ava's family and friends x

It's horrific. That poor poor little girl and her poor family. What is going on in this country? I'm in Liverpool and I don't feel safe going into the city centre after dark because of the gangs of teenagers running riot. My heart is broken for her. Rest in Peace x

Absolutely heartbreaking and devastating. I can understand that teens might get into a slanting match in the street, but for it to lead to a stabbing is horrific. Children with knives, and the kind of knives I've seen used in stabbings (these are not kitchen knives)... it's just horrific Sad

I've heard some worrying reports coming out of Liverpool about city centre gangs and it's making me very nervous for my DD who is going to Uni there next year.

millenialblush · 26/11/2021 12:38

Christ. If this happened to my child I would be seeking retribution. The hurt her family must be feeling.
