Fucking dogs!

Dogscanteatonions · 17/11/2021 20:41

I am so fucking done with dogs

I am sick of being jumped all over by dogs when I'm out running. I always slow to a walk when a dog approaches, I stand still if they seem aggressive. I have lost count of how many dogs that have jumped up on me and have made me muddy, left scratches from their nails on my arms and thighs
or ripped/pulled my clothing. I'm actually very lucky never to have been bitten.
.
I am so fucking fed up of avoiding piles of dog shit - on some of the routes I run or walk I can count up to a dozen piles just left on the path.

I am so fucking fed up of my neighbour's dogs barking. I can't complain as they are the kind of people who will make my life hell but on the regular occasions they are out they bark CONSTANTLY. Sometimes all night long.

I am fed up of having to pass a neighbour's house where they let their dog shit in the front garden and don't clear out for days and days. I walk past daily and it stinks to high heaven.

I am fucking fed up of dogs in cafes, pubs and restaurants. I, like many people are allergic and it leaves me sneezing for hours and hours. One pub we were in you literally had to clamber over 6 dogs to get to the bar.

Now today on here there are loads of people saying they think it's ok to put their dog shit in someone else's bin.

This is even without the terrible dog attacks that happen.

I know this will rile entitled dog owners but seriously has anyone else just fucking had enough?

(Ps my current username came from a thread where a poster's dinner of cottage pie had been given to the dog where everyone piled on to say dogs can't eat onions. I don't have a dog 🤣)

@Schnauze

It's owners not the dogs.

I always feel sorry that the dog that sniffed out Sarah Everard's body wasn't acknowledged. How long would it have taken humans to find it - I read some little comfort the family got was knowing that she was dead before she was burned.

What about guide dogs, deaf dogs, therapy dogs, dogs that save humans from land mines, that find missing people and criminals, dogs that detect fits, cancer, Covid. Dogs are amazing and you should retitle your thread 'Fucking humans'.

Not heard of guide dogs attacking kids. They are already very well trained by definition. Straw man 101.
Schnauze · 18/11/2021 01:34

Unreasonabubble I'm missing your point, what are you saying?

QuiteQuaint · 18/11/2021 01:39

you should retitle your thread 'Fucking humans'.

Yes!

Doona · 18/11/2021 01:40

It's like the argument about guns don't kill, people do.

Schnauze · 18/11/2021 01:48

@Doona

It's like the argument about guns don't kill, people do.
Was that to me?

Guns kill people when people misuse them.
Dogs attack people when people don't train/get wrong breed etc.

Confused
Doona · 18/11/2021 01:54

Not only to you, but yes. I was sort of agreeing. Guide dogs are lovely and it's not their fault that other dogs are running at toddlers and barking all day. #notalldogs

TowerOfGiraffes · 18/11/2021 02:39

Guns kill people when people misuse them.* Dogs attack people when people don't train/get wrong breed*

The rates of death by shooting are way higher in countries with lax gun control.

Fewer guns = fewer shootings

Fewer dogs = fewer dog attacks

There will always be some shit owners. So there needs to be more regulation about a) who can buy a dog, b) what kinds of dogs are legal, c) how owners are required to train a dog, and the dog confiscated if this professional training is not verified, and d) that dogs should never be off lead in public spaces, because the other people in those spaces have no way of knowing if this dog is safe or not and why should they be subjected to that danger because somebody else wants a certain pet? If you don't have sufficient land to train it on your own property then don't buy it.

saywhatwhatnow · 18/11/2021 02:45

It's the owners not the dogs, but I do agree that lots of dogs are irritating due to poor training/lazy owners. I've had countless dogs knock my DC over in country parks/on walks. We had a pup the other day in a woodland playground that was off lead and helping itself to our picnic from my children's hands. My DH had to shout 'is this anyone's dog???' before the owners, who had been chatting with their backs turned, came to fetch it. If it was my children doing this, snatching food and jumping up and smearing mud on others, people would be appalled. But it's kind of laughed off when it's a dog. Plus the amount of dog shit everywhere is vile.

I like dogs but feel they should always be closely supervised in public places, if they aren't well trained in recall they should be on a lead. It's not hard to grasp. Not everyone will love your dog as much as you!

Omg

This is still rumbling on.

All these out of control constantly barking dogs, taking down toddlers, running in packs and looking at mumsnetters in a funny way

I am scared of dogs. My friend and I were attacked when we were 5 (in 1960) by a dog that had no owner with it. Neither of us were badly hurt but it was a sustained attack and we both had minor bites and bruising.

Now I’m 66 and, while I try to be as tolerant as I can, I will ask people to call their dogs away if they jump up on me and explain that I’m scared. I don’t make a big fuss, just calmly ask them to remove their dog…so why do I keep getting told that I’m ridiculous and even ‘pathetic’, usually by women ☹️!! Yes, he may be a wonderful dog who just wants to be my friend but how do I know that??

Unfortunately my hobby is walking which does bring me into contact with a lot of dogs (far more recently than ever before). I have been told, and have also seen a couple of posts on here saying the same, that I should go on my walks where there aren’t dogs…can someone please tell me where that is?? Do dogs now take precedence over humans for enjoyment of the local Country Parks and woodlands?

I don’t hate dogs, I know some delightful dogs, but subliminal fear is hardwired in my brain.

I do have one question though for the dog owners…why do people hang poo bags on bushes and trees and why put the poo in a bag and then just drop it on the footpath?

Kikkomam · 18/11/2021 06:47

People should flick poo into the hedges and if you said you were scared I would immediately move my dog away. I'd feel sorry for you and assume walking must be very stressful.

What do you expect - it's a thread.

Only you allowed to post?

This is how threads work - don't click if you don't like others' opinions.

You sound so entitled - can't allow any other people to speak.

Kikkomam · 18/11/2021 07:57

No, it's fine, you are allowed to post. I'm finding the endless list of Plague Dogs amusing

waits for indignant post about ACTUAL TERROR AND BITING AND PILES OF POO MAKING ME GO BLIND

Most dogs are fine.

Kikkomam · 18/11/2021 07:58

And if liking dogs makes me entitled then that's OK with me!

It’s the word “Most” that’s the issue. It’s not “All”.
Scottishskifun · 18/11/2021 08:08

@hotmeatymilk

spend leisure time in places they aren't allowed. Plenty available. Where? There are no dog-free parks that I’ve found, or dog-free places to walk, or dog-free neighbourhoods.
Several national trust properties and gardens, English heritage sites, botanical gardens, many beaches are either no dogs for summer or have no dog sections, wetland sites, most RSPB reserves etc etc etc
Trixiefirecracker · 18/11/2021 08:08

We went wild swimming a few weeks ago, lady came down with a dog. Dog obviously excited and ran through us all to get to lake. Ran in and out repeatedly, barging through us. Every time shaking it’s wet fur over our clothing. Running through our piles of stuff, getting everything wet. Woman just stood by and watched it. Was so incredibly rude and entitled I was completely amazed. It was the owner though, not the dogs fault.

It's wild swimming. You might meet animals. Dogs are allowed to swim as much as you are in a wild area. If you don't like your clothes getting wet and getting splashed by animals may I suggest a swimming pool next time.
Trixiefirecracker · 18/11/2021 08:15

Oh for ffs @Kikkomam I never once said dogs can’t go swimming but the owner should have control of the dog. She didn’t. For context we love dogs and have owned many, I would never let me dog behave like that.

Kikkomam · 18/11/2021 08:16

So you love dogs and one splashed you and you got angry about it. Right.
Stompythedinosaur · 18/11/2021 08:20

Well, I like dogs and I am sick of whinging humans. I guess we all have our crosses to bear.

LivesinLondon2000 · 18/11/2021 08:22

I love dogs but the sheer number of them in London post Covid is overwhelming. I hardly know any family now who doesn’t have one.

Most owners are very responsible but the increase in dog poo on the pavements is very noticeable. Even when people pick it up they often leave a smear of poo behind to the extent that some pavements are just coated in smears. Bearable in winter but the smell on a hot day 🤢

Our local park is packed to the rafters with dogs now too - hardly any room to play football and finding somewhere to sit on the grass where you can’t smell the remains of dog poo impossible 😂
Totally get that having a dog is lovely but not sure London is the best place for them especially the larger breeds.

Trixiefirecracker · 18/11/2021 08:23

No. You are absolutely right. I will never go swimming outdoors again. I’ll stick to the swimming pool from now on, dogs are totally entitled to rip through all my stuff with their muddy wet paws. I was wrong to be cross. I won’t go anywhere outdoors where there are dogs now, they definitely take presidence over people and owners really shouldn’t have to keep their dog under close control. In fact, I should have apologised to the owner for daring to be there.

hotmeatymilk · 18/11/2021 08:36

People saying “dogs are allowed” and “dogs have the right” seem to be missing the point that it would be nice if they didn’t have the right and weren’t allowed. Instead of setting the world up to prioritise dogs as the default, prioritise people: create dog-specific areas, instead of dog-free areas.

(service dogs excepted from rules.)

I don’t live anywhere near the coast or English heritage etc etc to have to go and hide away from dogs – the natural state of people is to be dogless, so onus should be on dog owners to go elsewhere or have their leisure ringfenced to certain areas.

QuiteQuaint · 18/11/2021 09:20

Campaign for that then. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Moaning on here does fuck all.
