It’s not that old, is it? He died of cancer aged 37.

I’ve tried to mark it well. But my word, I miss him.

Thank you for sharing, Tunnocks. It was lovely to read, even though I do have a wet face now.
Sending love to you all. Flowers

@tunnocksreturns2019

He was a slight man, not greedy, but loved good food. So he’d always debate over having steak or fish as main “because I love steak but I do really want fish, but the problem with having fish is they think you want a lighter meal, but I don’t!” Grin

I would suggest a fish starter then steak main, which was usually what happened

❤️ ❤️ ❤️

I can hear how much you love and miss him. He must have been a very fine man.

You write beautifully Flowers

Wildheartsease · 17/11/2021 12:58

Keep writing Tunnocks - your words are memorable. (I've never forgotten 'the dream' either.)

Yes to things getting better with pre-teens. They will.
Reading to them sounds a wonderful way to stay connected through this stormy age.

Well done you for that and the pancakes and the outings and the thinking of them when thinking of you would be so much easier.

I've taught teens for years but it didn't help much at home. 40 an hour seemed so much easier than the 2 at our house!

During the worst times with my 'difficult' lad - when he hated everyone (especially me - the worst of all worst parents) - stories helped.

Sense of humour (a small but sturdy shoot) saved us - sometimes he was so impossible that even he laughed.

Thankfully - the humour has remained but 'difficult' has been reframed.

Sometimes these days he even says I'm 'not all that bad' as a parent.

(How I have improved in only a few short years :) )

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and your stories. Your writing is beautiful and some of your words about your lovely DH will stay with me, a stranger over the internet. They will stay with others too and in that way the spirit of him lives on.

bookworm14 · 17/11/2021 15:57

Oh, Tunnocks Flowers

I thought this would be you when I saw the thread title. I am so sorry things are still so hard - it is beyond unfair that your lovely DH isn’t still with you.

westendgirl780 · 17/11/2021 15:57

That is so very unfair to you and your children. I am so sorry that that happened.

tunnocksreturns2019 · 17/11/2021 16:42

DS, calling down the stairs this afternoon: “Sorry you have to put up with my awful behaviour, Mum!”

Me, calling up the stairs: “No problem, sorry you have to put up with my inadequate parenting!”

DS, stomping down the stairs: “Ha ha no mum, you’re doing fine. It’s me.”

You have a great lad!

mineofuselessinformation · 17/11/2021 17:04

There you go then. It's what we've all been telling you! Smile
Bloody kids, eh? They can have you crying with exasperation and then the next second they bring you to a halt with a golden moment. Thanks

liliainterfrutices · 17/11/2021 18:03

AH, what a lovely boy you have, and you are obviously a lovely Mum too. It's nice that you shared a hug.

@tunnocksreturns2019 you sound like a wonderful Mum who is doing a grand job despite your own pain.

It's so unfair your husband was taken from you all. Am sending you a big hug Thanks

FabricPigeon · 17/11/2021 19:44

You write so well. It sounds like you're a brilliant mum - you're doing your kids, your DH and your kids so proud. I'm sorry for your loss and wish you every happiness in the future Thanks

I remember you Tunnocks, and your DH. 5 years is nothing when you’ve loved so deeply.

You’re doing a great job Tunnocks at keeping going, so keep going.flowers]

Oh my. Looks like we all have covid.

OP posts:
tunnocksreturns2019 · 20/11/2021 07:53

Off to PCR drive through this am instead of a pool party DD was invited to.

DD and I both have cracking headaches and temperatures. Her two besties from school have it so it was inevitable really. DS was vaccinated on Monday but imagine that was a bit late to have an impact!
