If I buy really nice butter

I can't stop eating it. I could live off really nice bread and butter. I am going to have to buy some not very nice butter so I am less tempted! I think it's my favourite thing to eat.

Anyone else adore good butter!

When I was a child in the 60s we had to go to the creamery for butter as we had no fridge. Big slabs cut to size and paddles to shape it. Out of this world. Now buy kerrygold its the nearest to it.

Duckrace · 16/11/2021 23:08

When my grandma was a child, around WW1, it was considered poor form to have butter and jam, or anything else with butter . One or the other. You have to choose.

Pbbananabagel · 16/11/2021 23:11

Yes yes salty butter and fresh baked crusty granary loaf or toasted sourdough

Asda organic for me. When I was a kid I ate my bread dry, only later I realised it was cos I can't stand margerine..... which my mother bought. When I went to my grandmas she would say here have some Adams Best butter😋 I've ways bought butter since having my own home at 21 and I have low cholesterol, margerine is just not natural!

halfpasteleven · 16/11/2021 23:13

Baby potatoes taste better with butter. So does mash. And roast potatoes. And baked potatoes.. and white bread toasted with just butter.
Toasted sandwiches with butter on the outside..
scones with butter and jam..
And actually, corncakes with butter are such a satisfying snack.
I love kerrygold butter.

Poeta · 16/11/2021 23:19

I am a butter snob, back in the day I used to just use margarine but then I met dh who makes cheese and butter and now I'm spoilt Grin got to have a decent amount of salt in for me apart from at Christmas where I'm a sucker for a cranberry and herb one on a nice white bread.

dontputitinyourmouth · 16/11/2021 23:20

@MrsMouse03 I’ve got that one at the minute from M&S, it’s bloody lovely but the Brittany one from there is even nicer

Peanutmnm · 16/11/2021 23:21

I have always said that my last meal on death row would be a block of butter to eat like a chocolate bar.

Choux · 16/11/2021 23:30

To all the President butter lovers,

Not all President butters are the same. This is the best.

I love good butter but it gives me horrific heart burn.

AtLeastImNot · 16/11/2021 23:34

Oh my goodness yes. Isn't it considered less unhealthy than it used to be, in that it has fewer nasties in it?

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 16/11/2021 23:38

@Redshoeblueshoe

Tractor why don't you just cut off a small chunk and put it in the fridge ? It keeps for ages. Does anyone else put it on Jamaican ginger cake ? My DH thinks it's strange. I love it. I love the Aldi and Lidl West country butters. Extra salty
That’s what my granny used to give me as supper whenever I stayed at her house. Ginger cake with butter and hot chocolate made with goat’s milk.
QuestionableMouse · 16/11/2021 23:45

Making butter isn't too hard. You just need to whip cream until the fat and the buttermilk separate. It can take a while. Rinse it in cold water (I beat it on low speed in some ice cold water) until there's no buttermilk left because it'll spoil. Add any flavourings then press into whatever shape you want. Wrap well and enjoy 😁

GellerYeller · 16/11/2021 23:55

I have long maintained that butter should be a legitimate party dip. Sod off with your salsa!
I used to like Yorkshire Butter from Wensleydale Creamery but I rarely see it in the supermarkets lately.
Happy to try out some suggestions from here though, thanks!
Butter improves everything doesn't it!

IckyPop · 17/11/2021 00:01

That's exactly what I do. Faux butter is best for nonscoffing

MoanyMo · 17/11/2021 00:05

I never knew butter with salt crystals existed, why did I not know this Hmm

Which is better Aldi or Lidl?

thebestnamesweregone · 17/11/2021 00:05

Bread and butters my fave...joining weight watchers Thursday and already dreading giving these up!

Stevie6 · 17/11/2021 00:05

This has made me so sad! After recently becoming gluten and dairy intolerant real butter and tiger bread/salt and pepper bread is what I miss most.

MarmitesMyMate · 17/11/2021 00:08

I stopped buying butter because I was the only one who ate it. Dh and ds prefer marg. Ds2 is dairy free so has a dairy free spread. Which we now tend to all eat otherwise nothing ever gets finished
So I rarely eat anything that I'd enjoy but sod it. Tomorrow I shall buy myself some butter and crusty bread.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 17/11/2021 00:10

I came on to say President unsalted. It's my recent discovery. It's very reminiscent of childhood holidays in France and baguette for breakfast. I might have to buy some baguette Grin.

I have contemplated giving up butter. In Wetherspoons they do two slices of toast and lurpak (2 pats I assume). It's 450 calories! The bread can't be more than 100-120 a slice max. I can't do it. It is one of life's pleasures. I've decided to wheedle it down to a buttery treat - eggs on toast, baguette etc. on a Saturday morning.

I've also just discovered President butter makes INCREDIBLE buttery mash. Thank me later.

AnOldCynic · 17/11/2021 00:19

I'm a butter whore. I'll take anything.

LadyGAgain · 17/11/2021 00:38

Nicest post ever!!
Butter with salt flakes rocks my world. And on top of toasted sour dough is epic!

FissionMailed · 17/11/2021 01:00

My dad always called butter, "Best Butter"
He'd get margarine mostly but then "Best Butter" for a treat on toast, crumpets and scones... And pikelets, he loved pikelets.

frenchfancy81 · 17/11/2021 01:03

Salted Countrylife on fresh giraffe bread....oh to the m to the g!!!

FaceFullOfCake · 17/11/2021 01:06

Aldi or M&S salt crystal butter are making me happy at the minute, great with peanut butter on toast.
I got diagnosed with low sodium levels recently so it's a medically beneficial treat Hmm
