The utter joy of 'finishing' a household item...

I'm not a scrooge, lol! But I totally enjoy using up 'stuff'. Today was a hat trick: filled the washing up liquid bottle with hot water and used it to do the dishes (new bottle in the cupboard), snipped the top of my moisturiser (enough in the tube for a few more days!), took the crusts left from the loaf of bread to dunk in my soup at work. Anyone else get a thrill out of an empty container?

Yep. Love it

bookish83 · 15/11/2021 20:04

Yup! Love it. Even better if the product was annoying and I have been waiting to finish it eg shampoo I don't like!

MrsBobDylan · 15/11/2021 20:06

No, but I think I get a similar thrill from getting rid of house stuff. Today I have reduced the number of hangers in our wardrobe and decided we are not need one cookie cutter.

We are both nutcases Grin

Lunaballoon · 15/11/2021 20:06

Ooh yes. I can’t stand any kind of waste so everything gets used to the last drop!

Greaterthanthesumoftheparts · 15/11/2021 20:06

Oh I have found my people!! Hi!!!!!

cloudtree · 15/11/2021 20:08

The best thing is when you can get rid of the end of a product by tipping it into the new bottle. Then you can dispose of the first bottle before it was ready!

Pumpkinsonparade · 15/11/2021 20:11

Those little conditioners with hair dye? Cut them in half. 2 hair washes worth.

Seafog · 15/11/2021 20:12

Once, at breakfast, I finished the last of the granola, the yogurt, and the not so happy strawberries.
It was ace!

Clevs · 15/11/2021 20:23

I once emptied a shampoo, conditioner and shower gel bottle at the same time. That was triumphant ☺️

thistimelastweek · 15/11/2021 20:23

'Empty' moisturiser bottle stood on its head lasts at least a week more. Then I cut it in half for that last scoop.

Tittyfilarious81 · 15/11/2021 20:24

Oooo me I love empties Grin

Bananalanacake · 15/11/2021 20:27

I like to start on the new one before finishing the old one, so that when the old one is gone I've already started on the new, I do it with washing machine liquid.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 15/11/2021 20:29

Yes! I use bar soap in the shower and get great satisfaction from watching it reduce down, down to slivers before I can start the next fat bar.

See also - all toiletries, many foodstuffs, diesel, cleaning products. My best is my fountain pen with the window in so I can see the ink going down.

I am a fully paid up weirdo!

Wheelerdeeler · 15/11/2021 20:30

I wish I was like you

Twillow · 15/11/2021 20:32

I didn't know anyone else enjoyed this! Can I join the club, please?

Pumpkinsonparade · 15/11/2021 20:33

Toothpaste tubes get cut up here!!

NotMyCat · 15/11/2021 20:34

Omg I have found my people. Most satisfying for me is always sun cream on holiday, when you take three bottles and finish them.
I get very frustrated in the shower when my teens are always starting new bottles of shampoo etc before the old one has gone.
I also like refilling things, like hand soap dispenser and washing up liquid from a big bottle.
Small pleasures….

Icantremembermyusername · 15/11/2021 20:58

I love you all!

The first year I had a santa soap dispenser we used it until Easter.. now he's 'empty ' I refill with regular hand-wash and then he is cleaned and goes away until next year. Don't care if if I'm weirdo I've found my people!

Yes! I love using stuff up. I've met my people Grin

HerBigChance · 15/11/2021 21:07

I've finished two lots of leftovers in tupperware tubs from the fridge this evening and put the tubs and lids ready in the dishwasher for the next uses.

Two Molton Brown bath bottles are stood on their ends waiting for their final bits to come out.

BiscuitLover09876 · 15/11/2021 21:10

Absolutely! It feels so productive.

minipie · 15/11/2021 21:20

My tribe!!!

Especially when you have the last little bit of something and then a new one … so taking up twice the space… so good to get back down to just one!!

mcmooberry · 15/11/2021 21:35

Yes I understand this! Snip the bottom off tubes of lip salve and moisturiser regularly!
